The simplest and neatest solution would be to provide one or two mechs for free and then charge £5-10 for each of the others. This is the model used by Rise of Flight and it seems to work quite well. The income stream keeps the devs in funds to keep adding content and a steady flow of new mechs keeps people interested in the game. Charging for things like paintschemes or decals is just not going to generate enough funding the keep the game alive.

Oh, and I hope they don't go with piddly 10% or 20% boosts like some games do. I'm a big fan of 100% considering work and all. <_<

As long as they don't do like Battlefield P4F and force you to open your wallet to earn in-game currency (70 credits after 50 matches? 75.000 credits for a slightly better weapon?).

All mechs/weapons should be available for in-game currency as well as some fixed paint jobs/camo, you should only have to pay for stuff that doesn't affect anything like custom paint jobs or maybe a unique variant (but has to be inferior to it's fully tech-ed original mech) of an existing mech.

I hope they keep it simple and neat and dont ask too much. I want to see it as Ive seen all kind of systems. Worst is probably when devs try to disguise the real cost, 1 dollar there, 50 cents there, 6 dollar there etc. its just so stupid, we aint stupid.

Resets for skills will be pointless, they said you wont have to worry. But what about resets of mech xp?

I think if anything they will probably have speed up items. Items that will speed up repair/refit times if there is any. It wouldn't be instant but it probably be about 50-75% faster per day.

Different from the "What should be free" Topic since that makes noone money nor does it help when people say "it should all be free". (You know who you are)

I decided to make a personal list of things I would be willing to pay for with my severely limited slightly below the poverty line income. More to point It would also give better constructive outlook on what other people would be willing to pay for and how much.

The things about the cash shops are not everything can or needs to be for cash. There needs to be a fair amount of earn-able items via normal game mechanics. Items that in their own right have prestige and are worth working to earn. If anything they should be slightly better then the shop items simply because they take so long to get. But like everyone says LOL Skins sell like hotcakes and people love instant gratification.

Disclaimer: As I said "This is a personal list of what I would be willing to spend money on and what I think would be a fair price for the service." If there is a box game with free +10% boost forever, I would buy that too. Any opinion on right or wrong is just that. Your opinion. Feel free to share your list and add to the free data and resources to the company making this game.

THE LIST
Special paint jobs and skins:
-Complete "Special Edition" paint jobs 1$-2$ for standard $5-$8 for special edition.(usable on all mechs in your garage)
-2$-4$ Patterns and stencil outlines with ability apply personal colors to mech.
-3$-10$ Special legendary and rare Personal insignia designs.
-1$ Color swab batches (more color tab options for personal configuration. If there were 15 color sets I would spend $15.)
-$2-$4 Special Mech part designs. (Different Mauler Head/cockpit window lay out, armor placement ect.)
-Hula girls $1-3$ and Special hula girls with very minor stat boosts.$3-$5

Special edition Mechs and vehicles variant: (depends on how load-outs are handled)
-$2-$5 depending on variant and "rarity"(Remember rarity does not mean OP. There are some
rare mech varieties that get curb stomped compared to the standard.)
-$5 Special edition mech variations that have their own custom non changeable
color swab & design.
-$6 for ^ but with a color change options. <_<

Other:
- $3-$5 Voice packs for mech AI systems.

Boosts: (f2p staple, boost percent and pricing dependent on xp curve.)
Per win 4 to 10.
-Per win +100% Xp boosts $2-$7
-Per win +100% C-bill boost $5-$10
-Per win +50% Salvage boost (if applicable, maybe for a possible crafting system) $1-$10

Per day 1 to 5
-Per day +100% Xp boosts $5-$15
-Per day +100% C-bill boost $8-$17
-Per day +50% Salvage boost (if applicable, maybe for a possible crafting system)

Respec:
I would NOT suggest having people pay real money for (EDIt: PILOT) respecs or if you did make them supremely cheap. Volume of sales over a few large ones. Why? Because feeling locked into a character only to learn you honestly hate combat of that type can be very moral breaking. I have utterly stopped playing games because of a patch or character tweak that make my build something out of a horror flick and find out a single skill, attribute, or ability respec costs $20.*coughHellgate:global*

Since Skill sets are planned to be pilot based and the pilot is "you." The pilot curve should be fairly exponential. Easy to level to 6-9 but 30, 40 or 50+ should take time and dedication. It should not be fast simply because there needs to be reason for advancement and on par reason to keep playing past the first two to three months. (however you folks already know that if you studied World of tanks, League of Legends, and other skill bases strategy games.)

Make respecs c-bill based that only increases with level not per use. Giving people freedom to pick and tune their pilots skills. If anything put a time limit to once or twice per day. You still have to make a choice on your skill sets but you don't feel broken when you pick a skill set you utterly despise. Does it break realism? Sure but its a fantastic game-play mechanic. And when have 100 ton 5 story tall battle mechs been real anyways. ;P

New: Since we now know mech xp will slowly fill pilot xp I can see the need for respects with pilots alittle less. However I can see the need for respects with the mech skills past elite II. This is assuming you can't completely max out a mechs skill tree.

-$5 x1 variant re-spec for mech skills not including elite 1 & 2.

I'll edit and add to my post when I think of some more things I'd be willing to buy.
Can't wait to see everyone else list ideas.

Theory (ideas that are just quick outlines. Nothing set in plausible stone. Thus looking for major loopholes.)

General:
Loyalty abandonment doctrines: Gives the player an RPG/Mech Mission to change over to a different faction with the ability to bring over a set loyalty rank or set loyalty points into the new faction. Playing House Kurita till E5, defecting to FRR, and instead of starting new retain some "dignity" into the new faction. E3. Only usable one per faction. Reversing said results (going back to kurita from FRR) would follow normal game protocol and result in going back to Zero. If available at all. This is more a theory in progress.

Merc items:
- +% payment for merc cores for X duration. Similar to the +%credit and +%xp perks but for merc rewards.
- Special Merc dropship layouts.
- Special Base designs for mercs. (if there is ever clan/merc bases. Perhaps something special or 12 for those willing to look cool)
- Custom color palettes for said "merc bases".
- +3-5% chance of gaining an extra piece of salvage per mission/personal lost/enemy defeated with the chance this piece of salvage being undamaged. Follows +cp/xp time allowances.

Cut all your listed prices in half, and they you're right on the money, as the prices you have listed so far are WAY too expensive for what you're getting.

Chrome, Paint, decals custom leather interior, an in game Elvis Soundtrack.

Anything that changes the game balance shouldn't be in there... If it meant paying a monthly fee to prevent that, I'd prefer the monthly fee.

To be fair those prices are based off of LoL and World of Tanks pricing. As close to reality as you can get outside of NOT making money. :)

That however is your opinion. I personally wouldn't have a problem spending $2-5$ on something.

Never, never, EVER let people pay for power. The minute that happens, you'll lose a portion of the player base (the age 10-15 who don't have cradit cards.

Watch this

Crap like mech packs and "stealth paint" - definitely a nogo for me because those things are either power (the former) or BS (the latter). I don't care about the other things.

I quit WoT mainly because of the "bang for your buck" suckness that is their cash shop, particularly the price of Premium and Gold -> Silver conversion, along with the horrific scaling buying gold in general. If MWO is on that same price level, buhbye.

Devs have said over and over they will not make this play to win. They will not be selling power.

I could however see them selling 3-4 use "trade agreements" that give you a discount on buying items not of your housed origin.
EX: A davion player can buy a jenner or dragon but with the "trade agreement" will get it closer to the home houses value.

From what I understand, most everyone has to pay extra for really good "pain jobs."

Yeah, you meant paint jobs.

You know what I'd like to purchase, poster size artwork. I'd also pay for a hat with my pilot name and faction emblem on it. I'd probably even be willing to buy a pilot jacket with the faction emblem on it. Nice black coffee cup with a emblem on it.

-- Stuff I can use in the real world and fanboy out my office.

I would buy that.

cockpit details would be cool, from pinup girls to dice to dreamcatchers, to hula girls and so forth.

Adjustments to how your computer displays laser colors would be nice, and HUD color adjustments as well.

I'm guessing they'll probably offer different paint jobs, similar to the options in MW4

How likely is it that they'll let people do totally custom paint jobs? I could see merc units wanting their own look but that means i'll have to store data for every different paint job i come up against.

Is something smaller like custom logos and decals more likely than entire paint jobs?

If it's an issue the skin can only be displayed on your machine like custom weapon skins in Counter Strike.

If I spend like $20-30 (depending on what's there, about what I'd pay for a game like this) I should be able to get everything that has a meaningful function.

The specific way they said it, shall we say, doesn't inspire confidence. Interpreted one way it sounds like so many side grades, another way makes it sound like he's saying that good players will still be able to win if they can overcome the disadvantage. This skill tree doesn't make me optomistic.

I would pay real money for a pet Vedette who would follow me around and take pot shots at nearby mechs, I would name him "scruffy".

Realistically though, I'd be willing to pay for vanity items (not a whole lot) or maybe a boost to xp/c-bill gain if that is available.

It really depends on the level of customization of mechs and the depth they go into in terms of the meta game, personally I'm really interested to see how they plan on making money on this game if they're taking such a strong "no pay2win" stance.
