I can only speak for myself, but I have an entire guild that wont touch this game with a barge pole until this changes (37 members who could and would buy MC). A couple like myself, pop back in once in a while, but as a group we have no interest in getting into organised team play while this continues; its just a silly state of affairs, any prat can pug stomp, it takes no ability whatsoever.
I can only assume the numbers playing this game at any given moment are not sufficient to spread premade v premade, pug v pug. 8v8 was a step in the right direction, but not enough; with a guild whose members range across the entire planets time zones, some folks can only get on during "off peak" when forming 8 man teams is just not possible, the game needs to balance 4 v 4 in the mm so that at least a lance can play and practice together facing an opposing lance.
Stomping pugs like headless chickens serves no useful purpose whatsoever, and to start seeding elo while allowing it is incredulous, assuming of course that the devs want anyone to take this game seriously, currently many do not.

The lock boxes are dropping into your cockpit with every critical hit your Mech takes, or for every 10 seconds a Flamer or MG continuously hits you. (multiple weapons can stack the effect)
If you dont open or remove the boxes 1 by 1, then over time your Mech gets cramped with boxes so that you can not even look out of your cockpit anymore. They accumulate with every match in your cockpit.
If you try to discard the boxes, there is a chance of getting a critical hit on your mechs big toe and your mech will stumble.
The boxes can only be opened by a "Lostech Data Crystal".
The crystals are sold on the Clan black market, each cost = 100 MC
You can not chose to not get the lock boxes.
When you open a box you get a random item, with a chance of getting:
- 89% chance of getting a random clan logo flag
- 9.998% chance of getting a random non-hero Mech
- 1% chance of getting a random silly hat for your mech
- 0.001% chance of getting the experimental OmniMech
- 0.001% chance of getting a lostech Quad-Clan-Light-Gauss Weapon
live long and prosper

In other words, I'd like a non-MMO version (and would gladly pay for it) - even if it is a much more limited product.

Small fee to start and continue a merc corp -say $1 per month or a corresponding c-bill maintenance contribution. Larger membership == escalating higher contribution. This will serve to limit huge merc groups and foster smaller cooperating and competing ones instead.
Large fee and ongoing fees to allow a merc group to take on a canon name or choose an exact area of operations (planet).
A merc group headquarters, do-dads to put inside. Maybe earned trophies etc. Different finish, sizes, capabilities etc.
Similar, personal rooms inside the merc-corp headquarters with ability to add do-dads.
Make pay-for-achievement decals on mechs. Achieve something and its in your profile, then pay a small fee to get the decal - though a large c-bill or xp unlock might be ok too.

i) Select to upload/purchase a custom decal.
ii) Try to submit it. If it's the wrong filetype, wrong number of colors, wrong resolution, etc., it will be automatically rejected.
iii) Select a color for the alpha channel. Or use some build-in tool to overlay an opacity, or whatever.
iv) Pay $2.
v) A moderator will approve or disapprove the image. If the image is disapproved, he may give a suggestion on how it should be changed to for approval. Is the quality too lacking? Is it too close to something popular from another franchise? If the disapproved image is edited appropriately, upon the next upload no payment would be required.
vi) The custom decal can now be placed on any of your assets just like a normal decal.
vii) The alpha channel can be edited afterward, but nothing else.
viii) If the image needs to be updated, it can be for another $1 and another approval. The new version will replace all old versions.
Custom Decals are a good thing. But without having someone to approve or disapprove: Battlefield 3 had a very easy system to create Teamlogos with precast clipart-parts. I think that would be some point to start from, for customized decals.

How about servers in several regions?! I would love to have servers in the EU, for others in Asia, too.
I wouldn't pay anything for a cockpit-item! But for a horn like the ones from "The War of the Worlds"

Decals for unit patches including the ability to upload custom ones, this includes how some units put numbers on their Mechs.
Graffiti. Like Decals but a separate category with different locations on Mechs.
Besides cosmetics, in later years certain Tech from Advanced Levels of BT with separate matchmaking for those using the advanced tech.
GXP bonus packages to help buy modules.
Ideas from MechCommander:
Sensor Probes: each Probe can be used for a 1-2 second burst to reveal enemy Mech locations on the whole map.
Airstrike/Artillery Strike: Used for a 1 shot hit on a square chosen from the Battlegrid.
Minefield: package allows a minefield placed in a square chosen on the Battlegrid.
