When dropping with my unit, of course. If in a random group then depends on if they make sense but unless they are ridiculous then yes will follow them if it gets me more xp and c-bills.

Commanders should be giving general orders not micromanaging the battle. This is not MechCommander.....

I will consider the order, then decide if i follow it or not.

Ther might be a good commander once in a while. But a lot of the stupid ones who make you chase over the map just for the " lulz".

We all earn c-bills on a points-based system so win or loose the best commanders will be the ones that will issue their orders to maximize the points for their team. For example if your Lance is about to engage the enemy at Op point charlie then you are doing noone any favours ordering them to attack Op point delta, that is just a waisted opportunity for points. Worse is the commanders that will go through the whole match without issuing a single order. Without in-game VOIP, more complicated strategies will be the clear advantage of large player groups with their own independant VOIP channel.

Players who take on the role of commander will be judged by their team mates and their W-L records. I don't know if Piranha will track such things but I would be interested in knowing, prior to the start of a battle, what the commander's W-L record is. Do I have an experienced commander or is this somebodys first or second time in the big chair? I will follow orders but if the merc company/house I join ends up with a poor W-L record then those commanders will need to be relieved of that role.

On the flip side, if you're the commander and you have a mate who's running off, doing their own thing and not playing as a team member, should you be able to boot them mid-fight and bring in a replacement?

Anyone can spec the Command tree; That doesn't mean he is automatically in charge.

In a random public game people will do whatever they please within the bounds of hardcoded rules (such as kick on teamkill).

The game should be build on that reality. So hopefully a commander won't get to order others around but instead have a certain skill set which is beneficial to the entire squad.

2 things

1. you can join clans!! woot madcat. but you will probably be in trouble for breaking nda.

2. jokes aside. what if the matchmaker puts 2 commanders on the same team?
bureaucracy?

If part of a closed group, then yes. If part of a PuG? probably not. I might be more inclined to do it if there was a 'rating' system you could thumbs up/thumbs down the commander at the end. While this is prone to people griefing, that's the way it is. If you pissed someone off, then it's irrelivent if they're a ****** or not. It accomplishes the same thing in the end.

MAG taught me that any game that people assigning orders, needs a way to blacklist commanders.

This is what vent/teamspeak is for correct? tactics on the battlefield. If someone on my team is just giving orders while his mech sits around that's not good.

I will be, but then again I joined a Merc unit with good leadership. If I end up doing any PUG games, maybe I will... maybe I won't.

Not a chance. Certainly not without seeing some form of win rate stat on the guy trying to give orders. I'm going to learn the map for myself and figure out the best way to advance in cover, flank enemy positions, and take the base. I do hope to become part of a solid lance unit. If WoT taught me anything its that a good team of 3 or 4 can take on an unorganized bunch twice their numbers.

i will concider the commanders advice

i'm all for team tactics, but thats the best answer i can give until theres more details. also, if someone gives an order and i think its a mistake, be prepared to debate the matter and dont take it personaly.

unless i am certain i am being sent a mission with no chance of success therefore making my commander unfit for command i will follow my commanders orders to the letter because the success of a mech company in battle depends on obedience just as much as skill in the cockpit and in the mech lab.

I will follow orders and be a team player as long as it is reasonable.

However, random orders by an id-iot is like trolling and you should never feed the trolls!

Edit: (they star out the full word without the - ?)

Depends on the commander, I'm no lemming, I expect a certain amount of leeway regardless of orders, and there's massive amounts of precedence of orders that shouldn't be followed in practically any aspect of life, orders are great except when they're not.

Think it all depends on what kind of match you are playing.

If its a casual fight and your neighbours son wants to be the squad leader I'd say "why not", it is a game after all.

But there will be fights in the future that will put everyone to the test, hopefully we will be able to manipulate the grouping for these fights to a point you know what to expect more or less.
