It's funny that the same people who have been telling people to find friends to team up with if they are upset with getting stomped by these pre-made teams, seem to have problems finding extra friends themselves ...

The real issue is that now these teams of 8 will actually be playing another team of 8 that will be just as cheesy as them, that's really the issue for them, they want easy wins, and won't be able to get them anymore.

The game should really be designed so people don't make Mechs that aren't intended, such as a Light Mech with LRMs, PPCs, or Gauss, the ever so popular GaussCats, the used by people who can't aim StreakCats, etc.

Use the Mech build how it is intended to actually be used, and people that don't, just have zero skill. I am not saying I'm a perfect pilot, but I would never pilot a Mech that wasn't made to how it was really supposed to be loaded out. There is nothing wrong with varying the loadout some, but some people take that to the next level, and just make the game nothing but CHEESE, and when they team together, it just isn't FUN at all.

One of the worst CHEESE teams, is the team of two Light Mechs and six LRM boats. The strategy is just get your Light Mechs to circle one Mech on opposing team, after the LRMs take him out, go to next Mech on the other team and repeat. How in the world that type of team is ANY fun is really beyond my comprehension.

Oh, gee, 4 man groups, even temporarily.

Bad idea but at least the pubstars will be happy and stop crying in their Cheerios.

Now what to do with this league and these 32+ teams who were all set to play 8v8s, when a 4 man max is waiting around any given corner...

Tell them to get back to BETA testing, you know, like they're spossed to be doing. Run the league when the game is realsed, you know, like normal people.

For me and my friends, gaming is a social event. We find that far more important than what specific game we are playing. We frequently have 5, 6, 7 people online to play together and the new queuing rules will prevent us from playing together as we prefer. This will be a determiner for us as to our continuing to play MWO.

I personally think that the matchmaking specs that the MWO staff want to implement by December are overly complicated and more designed for competition play than casual. Either way, I hope we can get past the severely restrictive "4 or 8 only" grouping rules quickly.

Kudo,
you guys showed real greatness and this announcement is excellent.
Listening and making very hard decissions and opening to the community. This reminds me of the start of a hugely successful game, I think almost ten years ago and has not been heard of again since.
You guys rock, keep on rocking!

It's nice to see that as a Beta Tester, my opinion actually matters for once..

Also glad you pushing back open beta, only it would be nice to know the new date..

Hoping you fix the Atlas DC armor bug on the next patch, cose I got a useless Atlas in the bay..

Thanks for the hotfixes, and applause for taking decisive action and communicating effectively, PGI'ers! Hurrah for the hard work!

I can't say I'm too distraught about the phased matchmaking roll-out - I can understand why people are feeling upset, and I do look forward to putting Phase 1 behind us, but we beta testers should understand by now that PGI's development process is very much an iterative one. That's just how things are going to work around here. We will eventually be able to eat our cake, but it will be pieced out in small(er) pieces at a time. ;)

I would, however, really like to hear the developer team speak (with simliar alacrity to the OP press release!) to the question of native voice communication. Obviously neither the Unofficial Official TeamSpeak or the NGNG server will be appropriate to handle the Open Beta. I feel like a lot of concerns around the game experience for both premade and pug interests alike would be ameliorated somewhat with native voice support. So, what's-the-what's-the scenari-o?

I am happy some urgent issues will be fixed before open beta. Especially the premium time fix and the pledge for more new player friendliness.

Matchmaking looks still iffy, I am not sure the next two incarnations will do much good. Withholding final judgement until there is something final to judge.

Other than that, bring it on. I really like to have my achievements be for good.

re: Open Beta postponed.
Thanks for listening devs. I gave a big sigh of relief when I read that. We really do appreciate the efforts you put in to this and the openness you all show. Let us keep feeding back information for a while and help get to the bottom of the bigger problems inside the game.

The lag problem still affects the game even after the hotfix. Lots still having problems with that, combined with the low fps and rubber banding. A couple of friends are starting to hate the game because of it but I'm reassuring them it will be undoubtably fixed. Also explaining to them it is still closed beta where such things are expected to happen and not to have a cow about it man.

Game on!

Basically large statement stating thusly " PGI IS LISTENING!!" /applaud.

I really like the changes you are stating here and the OB push back can only benefit PGI(not having it on a major content patch is always a good thing)

I havne only played on pugs, I've been stomped by Premades more than a few times. However playing in an organized manner isn't cheesy. Just because you lost doesn't make your opponent a bad person. In fact, if this were actual combat, they would be the survivors, and PuGs would be the buried.

Most people on premades that I've heard talk about this don't want to fight pugs, because it's boring, this game isn't about making cbills, it's about killing mechs.

Most complaints I've seen so far about the reduced sized premades (for a while) have been because they want to play with their friends.

That being said, the 8 person teams will return, so people crying about it should stop.

No, I've been stomped by well organized teams, that's cool, my problem is with these teams full of horrible pilots that all use cheese Mechs, or a cheese team, such as the 2 Light Mechs and 6 LRM boats. That's my problem. I have zero problems with those with skill and team coordination that use regular Mech loadouts and win because of their actual skill.

Yeah im not a fan of the proposed grouping changes. At best we are going to be dropping afainst the same small pool of groups or at worst no drops at all. Also are groups of 8 matched on their mech weight classes or simply another group of 8? I ask because if its the former then group drops will be even more rare, if its the latter then full groups could be matched against groups they completely outclass or vice versa.

Harden up Sunshine. If you want to join the organised group queue then you need to bring a solid team composition. You can't just drop in joke comps and configs and roll PUGs. The best thing PGI can do for competition is to have nothing but a weight cap on the 8v8 queue. Then the players can come up with strategies and counters. Coddling supposedly competitive players by only matching against near mirror compositions would be lame.

Please re-consider the way grouping will be done. We often have 5-7 online at one time, so more than 4 but less that 8 and that will be our only options? We cannot stay in the same room in comms that way as it will get too confusing so we will have to split up not only in-game but on comms as well. Not all units can field a full 8...

And here I thought from all your work in mw4 that you were an old hat at this... I remember back in the day when FFF was 6 members strong we wanted to join BZ as some players wanted league play. We couldn't join BZ due to not having 8 members so you know what we did we joined up and fought with another group. FFF_Name became FFF_Name_GDL. After a short time we decided hanging with GDL was holding us back and we grew ourselves into a larger group.

When life gives you lemons say to heck with it and just make kool-aid!

nice changes to the matchmaking system. If players are serious about doing team vs team it shouldn't be hard to pick up the extra players.

Is endo steel on the cards soon or is that a "much later" in the timeline thing?
