Call names all you want, if they wanted a jumpy assault they should have put in a Victor. The Highanlder is not only rare but out of production in this time frame, with only 2 variants. The Victor has at least 4 that could be used, more mechs right there.

Why people insist on claiming things are supported by "canon" when they're clearly proven incorrect with only cursory research is beyond me.

A few excerpt's for you.

"As with other Star League era designs the Highlander would suffer the loss of technology brought about by the Succession Wars, and when Starcorps' factory on Son Hoa was devastated towards the end of the Second Succession War the original HGN-732 became virtually extinct. An agreement between StarCorps and Hollis Incorporated to rebuild destroyed chassis from scratch using readily-available technology kept the line going until the mid-3030s when limited production was restarted by StarCorps on Son Hoa and Corey."

"Unbeknownst to many ComStar also maintained a large stock of Highlanders left over from the Star League, which they gifted to the Draconis Combine during the War of 3039. The appearance of so many seemingly rare 733s, along with a few 732s whose advanced technology managed to slip through ComStar screening, had a large impact on Lyran morale during that conflict."

And to finish that off, the MUL http://www.masteruni...Name=Highlander

As you can clearly see, there are 3 different 733 models, giving us our 3 immediately. Follow that up with the 732 and if they really want to get esoteric, the 732b and we've got 5 models (more likely 4) that are feasible to be in the field for the time line.

In short, it has the prerequisite number of models, it IS in production, and after comstar handed them out like party favors they ceased being rare.

I'd be betting that you'll see the 3 models from the TRO 3039.

http://www.masteruni...rce/Details/180

That being the 733, 733C, and 733P. While we may see the 732, the 732b's were exclusive to the SLDF royal divisions, of which nearly 100% left during the great exodus.

dfa, and the trebuchet.. in the story. Almost tacit confirmation of two great features.
dfa and melee.
Both need to be done right gents with variable damage per target.
Keep going.. foward foward foward.

Good grief. There's a reason I used the term "fanboys".

TRO 3039 and 3050R, the two most recent sources that cite the history of the 'mech, both make it clear that the 'mech was in limited deployment outside of Comstar.

Quote

TRO 3039
Hollis continued to custom-build the 733 models until the Fourth Succession War, when its license was revoked. With the capture of the Corey production line and the discovery of the Helm Memory Core, StarCorps was able to begin producing 733 refits on Son Hoa by the mid 3030s. [EDITOR’S NOTE: StarCorps was eventually able to restart full Highlander production on Son Hoa in 3057.]
...
The few MechWarriors possessing a functional Highlander did whatever they could to keep their assault ’Mech in working condition, even if it meant going to the black market for spare parts.
...
Both the Capellan Confederation and the Lyran Commonwealth use the Highlander in small numbers, as the production lines only churned out less than a dozen a year in either facility. It was with great surprise, then, when during the War of 3039 the Draconis Combine fielded
733 Highlanders in moderate numbers alongside smaller amounts of the original 732 models.

Quote

TRO 3050U
Relatively few found their way into the DCMS in the 3030s, almost all of which had been completely stripped of advanced technologies, but a handful remain in service inside the Ghost regiments.

Please don't quote Sarna when arguing about canon. I myself have written articles there and its a good source for overall information, but specific information is notoriously spotty or blatantly incorrect.

The MUL lists what was available in a time frame for ANY faction, and does not indicate rarity of a 'mech at a given time.

So again, you've got individual examples here and there with their pilots known to have to resort to the black market to maintain their machines, production that was likely barely enough to keep up with combat losses ceasing in the late 3020's, with essentially custom built refits following until 3057. Some individual DCMS regiments were gifted a "moderate" amount in 3039, the number of which that survived the war listed as a "handful". To say the 'mech was rare in 3049 is an absolutely fair statement and the rage that my simple post induced is as amusing as it is sad. Every other 'mech announced for MWO has at least one factory producing it; not so for the Highlander. The Victor would have been a much better choice by far, since it has been in continual production for centuries and it is in current production in two factories, one of which is among the largest in the Inner Sphere.

Regardless, you guys got your 'mech, so congrats on that I guess.

Mech 17: Best story into ever.

As for the Highlander itself being ingame....I'm meh. It's not my favorite and I probably won't be piloting it, so I'll just need to learn how to kill it.

Never anger a Scot. :)

Finally the Highlander. Also, why does the gauss barrel look completely like a PPC?

It used to BE a PPC until the pilot realized they would need 30 heatsinks to keep it cool along with the other 30 for the medium lasers and just decided.."ya know what? the gauss is just plain better in every way", and swapped it out in the mechlab. (Please ignore the hardpoint restriction f-up here)

The unit insignia on that Highlander's Left Arm appears to be that of Hansen's Roughriders, a former FWL line regiment that became a mercenary regiment with a history of service to House Steiner and the LCAF/AFFC.
