My DHS Commando will now have what amounts to 14 SHS instead of 20. It's a nerf, but even with the current DHS bug it was already getting to a point where I didn't have to even bother with heat management with a 3xMPL load-out, just keep the trigger depressed.
MPL weren't getting the correct heat either. Besides heat was hardly an issue with an appropriately equipped light.

That's basically the affect 1.4 sinks will have.

True HE currently is (Number of Engine HS x 1)+(Number of DHS outside of Engine x 2) / total number of HS
So a commando with a XL200 with 10 DHS is actually (8x1)+(2x2)/10= 1.2
So 1.4 is still a upgade and it takes a while to over heat currently with my commando with just 1.2 HE.

Besides, 1.5m isn't that much. Sure I have the founder's premium but that won't last for all that long and I'm frankly not bothered in the slightest about the cost because it puts your effective dps up so much. It would be nice though if the charge for going back and forth was lowered substantially

All it means is that, together with the "laser fixes" (how significant will those changes be?) we'll be seeing even more missile and Gauss boats equipped mechs.

3 crits for only 50% more benefit is terrible. It'll benefit a handful of 'mechs (lights, mostly, getting a free boost off the engine) but nerf many more designs than that.
Again, it's really fine that the engine is always 10 regular heat sinks (it'd be nice if the stat screen reflected it, of course) but purchased DHS should live up to their name and be double.

Clanners may shed a few tears when they realise that they can't fire as often as we Inner Sphere types can with our lower heat weapons though

Pretty much yes.
So there is a range where the DHS is more effective than the SHS and a range where the SHS is more effective than the DHS.
I see no problem with this except for people claiming that it's against TT because 'DHS is supposed to be better than SHS in every single way'.
