People fork out 20 bucks for just a skin in LoL. People fork out 50 bucks for a tank in WoT. 20 bucks for a mech is a good deal in the f2p market.

You're looking at edge cases for LoL. Only legendary skins are $20. Regular skins are anywhere from $3-$10. Also, you can play the tutorial and 3 matches or so and have enough to buy one of the cheapest champions (the 450ip ones, many of which are just as viable as the 6300ip champions).

LoL's "trial" system is also much better. The rotating roster of 8 or so free champions changes every week, and they are all wildly different. you also gain mastery points and glyph slots to spend on your summoner before you own your first champion.

The most I've ever spent on a champion in LoL was $10, which I feel is a fair price. $20 is outrageous for a standard mech. I would gladly pay that much for a hero mech, but a standard mech shouldn't rise above $15 imo.

I think the price is a bit high buy eh, I'll just play the game and earn my mechs that way.

Big problem I can see is people accidently selling mechs purchased with MC. Cause wow that would suck. Perhaps a bigger are you really sure you want to do this message would help with that.

Being a founder or having premium does not change a thing in this matter. You do not have to grind for 3 Mechs in a trial and _then_ start playing for the xp. You grind for the first Mech, play for it's xp and buy the next Mech from the C-Bills you earn by doing this. There is no point in waiting until you can afford all 3 Mechs necessary for the pilot skills.

You are assuming that after buying and using a mech your CB per hour income continues to stay on the same average as before. I'm assuming that repair/rearm costs actually net you less CB per match (using your bought mech), therefor less CB per hour, which would take you even longer to afford all mech variants (all atlases or all jenners, for example).

I don't have a bought mech yet, so I haven't been able to test that out myself. But from what I read on the forums some trial players lose money even when they win a match because of the repair/rearm, which makes me think they definitely don't make a higher NET income than if they had just run the trial. Still, I have yet to find out for myself.

Sure, you can do it this way and i am, too, doing it this way now. But if everyone does it because prices are too high, the game will die because the lack of income for PGI. They shouldn't focus on selling high price items to few players but selling a whole lot items for low prices to a lot of players. And the current system with the MC-packages do not help in my opinion. Plus you shold receive small extra benefits when buying something with real money, like a free Mech bay for a Mech purchased with real money while you have to pay little money for a bay for Mechs bought with C-Bills and perhaps one free paintjob for a MC bought Mech.

To be honest, i guess there are only a few people out there that are willing to spend more money then for a retail game on this content-lacking beta. I don't mind spending money on MWO. I don't even mind spending more money then i ever did for a game. But is has to be reasonable. Why should i spend more then 20$ for an Atlas without any bonusses when i have a founder Atlas? Why should i buy an Awesome for a lower price when i'm getting matched against an Atlas which outclasses me? Make it 5$ for a Light, 6.5$ for a Medium, 8$ for a Heavy and 10$ for an Assault. And make it Dollars, not MC, so if i want to spend 10$ i do not have to buy MC for 15$, leaving me with 5$ i get nothing for or i simply do not want to spend. Make paintworks last in your stock when you choose to buy another one and not erase formerly bought ones.

Maybe a system like the one we have works for WoT, but i guess there are more people interested in tanks then in BattleMechs. AND: with a high tier tank in WoT you seem to have a better chance on the battlefield. But in MWO an almost 30$ AS7-K can get shot down by a free Trial (which, by me, is totally fine and HAS to be way it works). Why should i pay 30$ for that?

Wait for the Timberwolf!

$0.004779 per MC
_______________

$46.37

OUCH

bear in mind that you need 3 Timberwolfes unlock elite or think about you need 3 Daishi to unlock elite ... it's just a little bit expensive

You dont have to.
You already spent at least 120$. And you got a lot of nice goodies for it.
These who freeload have it a lot harder.

Do you really need to buy more mechs for MC? Only you know.

Point is: you can choose youself.

Did I just seriously see someone say that a 20$ LoL skin is more fair priced and worth more then a 20$ atlas.

That's right, i don't need to do it. But i want it. To have the Mechs faster then through grinding alone and to support the devs and help this game staying alive. But i do not want to buy at these prices.

Nice work, you gonna keep that updated when new mechs comeout?

I only read the OPs post since I am sure everything following it was just the normal dribble. Personally, buying mechs with MC is a waste save the MC for XP conversions and fun skins.

Oh, premium is a perfect example. As long as you do not buy MC you just do not know how much premium will cost you. You simply cannot see the prices. So you do not know how much MC you have to buy. And if you know that 30 days of premium cost 2500 MC you still have to buy the 3000 MC package leaving you with 500 MC. Ok, you can buy another 2 days of premium, but seriously, this is not how probably most of the like it. They want to pay for what they buy and not for what they want + some virtual currency they may have no use for. PGI should introduce the possibility to buy items directly with Dollars to make a 1 or 2$ purchase possible. They can still use MC and it's packages, but then buying with MC should give you a slight discount, like 5% or something around that.

I bet that just a bad and incomplete UI design.

You can always ask about premium cost.

Those people are hooked already, like someone who'd spend 100 dollars on hats. PGI wants to sell atlases for 20 dollars right away, without anyone being hooked. If it was 3 dollars, with 2 dollars for an XL engine of the same size as the normal engine, and 3 more for the 'collectors version,' with a 5 dollar booster to credits, and 1 dollar per upgrade tech, they'd sell at least a whole bunch of base atlases, even to people who aren't hooked.

Now? I can't imagine they're selling anything, except wangs.

I do not like this thread. I was perfectly happy throwing MC at that 7K to strip it until you showed me the RW dollar amounts. I will probably never spend another MC dollar.

Course, that was my intention. Pay one time for mass convienence.

realizing a preferred product is over priced is never comfortable.

Yes, I was very looking forward to being nickled and dimed to death. This is more bludgeoning. I feel like I'm missing something about how the economy is supposed to work.

It looks like it would in BattleTech. "Pony up, and buy the one mech you will use for the rest of your life." BattleTech is like that, a lot of owners of Mechs just have one... ever! But in MechWarrior, we want to try all the mechs... and by try, I don't mean take an uncusotomized Trial Drive. I can kind of get into the idea... but I thought that the Video game mechs would cost less than their pewter miniature counterparts! Topping out at $11 or so for very exotic mechs... you could buy 6 mechs, you just bought a regular $60 copy of a game... That said, I know that WoW accounts are $100 a year, so maybe I'm missing the long view.
