I was extremely pessimistic when they decided to go free to play. I didn't become a founder for one reason only.
Because it was going free to play. I would have been a founder in a heartbeat if it wasn't for that. I was going to
start giving them some money though, even with all the bugs because it seemed that slowly this game was getting
somewhere. Now I'm not so sure again.
There not going to split the player base on 3rd person first person. Once that goes in there will be only one
choice for competitive play.

We see you lurking Garth

I have been a huge fan of MW:O thus far. It has issues and I've complained, but through it all I still see a game i'd like to play.

Please you are reading this, look at the poll, read the opinions, understand that for many (most?) of the core audience that supported this project from the beginning this 3rd person is a deal breaker. I mean I know i'm upset but when Prosperity Park is talking about something he'd leave the game over you know you've struck a very dangerous cord for the core and loyal audience. Let us know what you think and again, please don't do something that will drive away a devote fanbase in favor of people who may or may not even like the game.

Garth, seeing as how MWO is only PvP, don't give 3rd person view. If this were a primarily PvE game like the rest of the MW series, then sure, but even then that would only be available for PvE.

It would detract severely from the information-management focus of gameplay, given that a 3rd person view includes a wider area both by necessity (to be able to actually see around the 'mech) and by virtue of not having the cockpit graphics in the way.

I like that we can see and shoot at objects our 'mechs can't lock onto, either due to distance or significant cover, but to balance 3PV at all, that would have to be disabled. The though of an Atlas suddenly popping into existence only after enough of it crests a hill is just... bad.

I also don't see how this would actually improve the new-player learning curve, since moving off-axis from where you're looking is still happening. The player still needs to either look down at the map or look down at their legs to get true orientation.

Perhaps focus on actual improvements to the NPE instead, like the provision of a low-tech 'mech to get them feeling invested over the course of their first matches.

I strongly disagree with 3rd person veiw.
I will admit it helps out new players a bit but there are far better ways to teach them how to use the torso twist on a mech.
I instead recommend a type of training ground where it teachs you how to move, shot, and all those other goodies.

Why on earth do you feel that you need to pander to bad players? You say 3rd person is to help 'new' players get used to where their legs are in relation to their torso. Now in my corp we get a lot of very green players and I've not seen one have an issue as to where their legs are facing. Nor have I seen a great number of threads here complaining about it. So where are you pulling the information from? If you focused more on fixing the current issues and expanding planned content then you would gather more players than you ever would by adding a 3rd person view which will drive a good chunk of the playerbase you do have away.

Folks they may just be toying with the idea and want a reactionfromthe community as far as what we think it would do to the game.

My issue with 3rdperson is as follows:

A) It takes away from "immersion" AKA feeling as if you were actually piloting a mech

B ) may give certain advantages to to players who utilize it over players who dont

C) In my eyes it would have a severe negative impact on the game as a whole due to the already expressed negative reaction by the community in user threads.

If, however, PGi decides to go through with a third person view (For whatever reason) they need to ensure that it does not give any kind of Field of view advantage over a player not using it (As expressed earlier). It would have a impact on competitve play.

If they made it an option for people who are just playing certain game modes however (I stand by Commando Only capture the flag) it may bring in certain users who may not be playing this game for the lack of 3rd person view.

i honestly pledge you not to do it...

it would kill the gameplay and make the game more like a 3rd person shooter than a good simulator... which would be the end of mwo as far as i can see
as well as it was stated before and even promised not to implement 3rd person which led to the decission of players to buy the founders packs in the end... therefore it would be unacceptable for many players in my humbled oppinion...

another outcome would be the possible splitting of possible games and queue...as i understand it there shall be an option concerning the possibility to use or not to use 3rd person view... some players will use it and some players wont... so this would make the community warfare system redundant as it would divided by two in the long run

I'd really appreciate it if PGI stayed true to their original game concept. -->> no 3rd person.

And while we're at it, let's keep this a thinking mans game instead of dumbing it down, ok ?

And if new players have trouble understanding the game, maybe PGI should implement some good INGAME tutorials ?
You guys ask for money for premium already, new players can and should expect tutorials...

Terrible idea, you might as well give players the options for no heat/no ammo as well 'cause if they can't figure out a simple thing like how a 'mech can move they sure as hell aren't going to be able to understand heat and ammunition.

The proper solution to new players failing to understand game mechanics would be a real set of in-game tutorials. You could utilize a 3RD person camera during these missions to show what is happening, but don't put it into the actual matches.

Way to go PGI. The few of us left that weren't convinced you guys are braindead are now left with little doubt.

I'd rather the team not waste time on this but I see where its coming from.
3rd person camera is an adequate substitute for kinesthetic feedback (awarness of body parts position), and constant avatar scale feedback. Both ease spatial navigation in a virtual world.

Nevertheless I don't want a magical camera viewpoint out of nowhere, I suggest using the Satellite Uplink as the 3rd person mode. Make it default equipment (since all of this is to ease new players), throw some BS about using multiple satellites to compound a third person perspective. Make the camera switch take some "activation time" to prevent fastswitch to check corners or hills, alternate vision modes should not work on 3rd person mode, and use some of the system drawbacks:
The equipped unit may not spot for indirect LRM fire or artillery, launch such attacks using another unit as a spotter, or function as part of a C3 Network. The satellite system may be switched on or off during battle. When the system is off, its benefits and drawbacks do not apply.

It shouldn't be implemented.

It has only one upside (easier time for new players) and too many downsides to be viable. I think you should find a better way to make it easier on new players without detracting from the game as much and angering 90% of the playerbase along.
