I personally don't mind. I really just depends on how it's implemented.

If it's a training tool for trial mechs, that's fine with me. If it's something that can be filtered with the Matchmaking, so that I only go up against others playing 1st person or 3rd person, fine with me.

The point where it might become a problem is when those two mix. If I am playing 1st person, and come up against someone playing 3rd person, that can peek around walls or mountains, or see me when I sneak up behind them, then there would be an issue.

I do however think, that a 3rd person perspective might tarnish the asthetic and idea that you have branded MWO as a mech "sim". Just a thought.

I'm more willing to see how you choose to deal with the problem, than get upset, though. :P

So if new players have their torso twist turned off won't that solve the disorientation problem without having 3rd person view? Then they can only move the direction they are looking. Maybe we can let them move the aiming reticule across the screen to sorta simulate what happens if the actual torso moved.

If the devs think it will help inexperienced players get into the game I'm fine with it. I'll keep using first person happily (more precise fire in first person). If nothing it'll be a boon for peaking around corners and over hills - we'll count it as a UAV camera.

No! I do not want to ever see 3rd person view in MechWarrior, that would suck.

This is an online simulation game. Probably the rarest of its kind. DON'T RUIN IT PGI!

The "hardcore" whom Russ laughingly referred to/dismissed, are the prolific forum posters on non-PGI websites.

From a marketing standpoint, adding 3rd person, which will **** off and drive away the "hardcore" folks, will generate a Super-Nova of extremely bad press on every gaming site in the universe. Negative word of mouth will destroy this game's chances for the future.

PGI, You already have a thread of feedback on 3rd person. There's even a poll. Just read it. No need to create a reduntant thread and put a tag "official" on it - I thought that redundant threads are locked on this forum. But if this is not the case, especially for you I'll repost all my messages from that not-official-enough feedback thread if it is necessary for you to react on feedback (though I don't believe that). Behold.

My initial reaction to 3rd person was disappointment. I really thought you were trying to make this as much of a simulator as possible. To be fair though I can understand why you want new players to ease themselves in the game and enjoy it.

So I suggest this:

Anyone ever play MAG? The first gamemode that you unlock is a "training" ground where you fight people from your own PMC group. The rewards weren't the greatest and the gametype wasn't the most fun, but it was a place to start to learn the basics of shooting each other.

Keeping that in mind, all I'm suggesting is a PVP "training grounds." A simple TDM that allows a 3rd person camera for new players. Keep the rewards less than gamemodes that would be for "real" such as Community Warfare. People that want 3rd person so they can take screens will be happy, and noobs will get to see how their mech's legs work. All of that and the main feature of the game (fighting for each other's planets) will be a forced 1st person perspective.

- Tipps

I would just like to add, make sure to clarify 3rd person would be for this gamemode only. Any other gamemode is locked in 1st person. That way any new players interested in moving on to bigger and better things, will know they should probably get in the habit of piloting 1st person BEFORE joining community warfare.

Also, this "training grounds" gametype would not be mandatory for new players. If they choose, they can jump straight into the thick of it. Veterans wanting to try out 3rd person or wanting to take a picture of their brand new mech earned with the cash from fighting in the Inner Sphere would also be able to hop in any time.

One last edit: WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE BOBBLEHEADS?

Yes, that's exactly what we need and what should take all resources of the development team. Well, not all of them - they should devote some to autoaim, cover system and Lava Gun. And rename to MechAssault Online.

Seriously, it's more or less clear that this game is a failure, so let's finish this driveout.

Devs guys what are you doing? You have already established strong competitive very sim like community.

You guys advertise MWO as simulation type of game. The purpose of playing simulation is to be as realistic as possible that means 1st person view is something normal and expected. This is how you got me into playing it because I am old school mechwarrior player no 3rd, 4th or 5th person view. Only 1st person view!

You can't have both 1st and 3rd person view in PvP online game like MWO. Splitting players base into 2 separate modes is not the answer.

Paul please have your dev team play or look at MW2 and MW3 HUD display. You can really make 1st person HUD more informative than what you currently have.

Design better HUD display that shows your mech in 3rd person view on 1 of the display monitors inside cockpit. Tiny little square display showing how your mech is oriented with legs and torso in real time.

Design some tutorials for people to learn how to play this game.

Good Luck Devs I hope you guys make the right decisions. I hate to say this, but at this point I don't trust you guys anymore. I thought 1st person was hardcore established and done no 3rd person view period.

I guess I was wrong and I'm worried what the future might bring. In any case if you guys go with 3rd person camera view I'm gone.

I didn't sign up to support an arcade mwo type of game. So when that happens ( I hope it never does) then I would really like my founders refunded as well.

PS. I'm so sorry but if 3rd person view is a taste of things to come. Then I have no need to play 1 more of 100's arcade games already on the market.

Don't you worry. As this is a video game, tabletop rules and fluff could be adapted the Devs see fit.

First, make an option that allows the legs to be controllable by using the mouse, and allow the torso to be controlled using the keyboard. This control scheme was used in MW4 and made it easy for me (a FPS person) to get used to the mech.

Second, Make a tutorial at the first launch of the game that tells the player how to control the mech, how weapon groups work, how to manage heat and other important items.

I know you want to make this game the best it can be so please take my ideas into consideration. Please PM me if you would like more details on how these ideas could be implemented.

Let's not forget this also further splits this community?

FFP is the way to go, there needs to be proper tutorials, THAT IS ALL.

Terrible idea, ruins immersion, provides advantage to those who use it over first person.

If people can't figure out their torso and legs aren't pointed the same way make a tutorial.

I'd also like to point out that MW3 and MW4 both had third person views as an option (though servers could limit this option).

Constructive feedback:

You guys have developed a great game here. Of course it has its faults: Every single game has faults. But you guys got the "feel" of this game absolutely right. I "feel" like I'm piloting a mech. I "feel" like I'm shooting giant lasers and massive cannons, and I "feel" like when I'm hitting something with those weapons that I am doing actual damage. The visuals and the audio you guys have put together for this game have set the stage for an epic mech warrior environment.

Now add in 3rd perdon view. Suddenly you're changing the synamic substantially. Now I'm not piloting a mech, I'm a puppeteer. It doesn't matter that it is optional. If my opponents from their puppeteer perspective can gain battle information and insight that I cannot get in my cockpit then the game has lost its "feel." My opponents are no longer other mech warriors, they are disembodied string pullers that have a distinct advantage over me on the field. So you say "don't worry you don't have to play against them." I say "well great, now our already small community is even smaller." Division of this sort has never helped a title. If you want to help new players find out what direction their legs are pointing there are a whole slew of options you can consider that don't involve moving their FOV to somewhere outside of the cockpit of their mech.
