If implemented, return my $120. It's betrayal of the founders who were told 3rd person would never be implemented.

If the issue is due to people not knowing which way their torso is facing in regard to their legs that indicates the HUD needs to be changed. Unless a user viewing in 3rd person is unable to see over hills, around corners, underneath their legs, behind them, off to the sides of their mech, it should not be implemented. However, seeing as none of this is possible, just scrap the idea. Take a look at the HUD from previous mechwarrior games. People were able to figure out which way their torso was in relation to their legs just fine.

I'm not expecting to change anyones mind, but heres my .02 cbills.

I've not a grizzled vet who has been playing MW games since the womb, but I've played my share and remember them having a 3rd person option.

MWO has been billed as a 'First Person Mech Simulator', so I can understand the frustration about a 3rd person option being introduced.

I also understand the concern that has been brought up over and over about with 3rd person: "You would be able to see behind your mech and around hills/terrain, ect.." and my favorite: "It breaks immersion"

All of these are valid points but here is my thought: 3rd person does not break my immersion because in the 30th century, Mechs should come standard with a rear view mirror and radar.

I currently play the game in 1st person and enjoy it, even if 1/3rd of my screen it taken up by the cockpit. If they add a 3rd person view, great I will use that too. Probably switching between the two, movment (3rd person for ease of navigation) to combat (1st person for ease of targeting)

I come from a tabletop, Battletech background. In my opinion, a 3rd person view brings me closer to that.

Red Menace, there is something you need to consider here. While yes, the prior iterations DID have third person view, they all have the same problems: Situational Awareness being taken to levels that should not be there. Forcing ALL players to use 3rd person to remain competitive. Allowing for the ability to see around corners and over hills at no risk to the mech. and the two BIGGEST things on a list as long as our galaxy is wide: Paul Inoyue of PGI as it's LEAD DESIGNER stated in July that this game is being developed as a 100% FIRST PERSON MECH SIMULATOR, AND if you check the how is this game played thingy, it states the very same thing Paul stated. See if they do this, they are now a company of liars and can no longer be trusted by the community as a whole.

more to the point, for ease of spotting:

How does gameplay work?

MechWarrior Online puts MechWarriors into a first-person, team-based, tactical battlefield where the victors swim in the spoils of war and are rewarded with the almighty C-Bill (in-game currency).

Does MWO need or should have 3rd person

PGI, if you are in fact seeing and caring about any thing we YOUR player base, potential and PAYING client base, we clearly do NOT want this mistake to happen.

actually HUD from previous Mechwarrior games was harder to read but contained more useful info. and filling green bar (torso twist indicator) in some resolutions was unreadable. current implementation, is way simpler (aside from colors - seriously i prefer green =_=) and easier to read. it have like 3 markings for torso twist complete with triangles and tracer lines - but eh.. some people were screaming about big red flashing OUT OF BONDS was not enough of indication =_= also they should totally make highres cabin displays (they are working somehow but so low res and yellowish that without zoom its impossible to even guess what they indicating) and add an option to disable hud for even better feel.

Don't do the Third Person view, just don't. Don't be like the multiple other MMO's I've played in which the Dev's asked for feeback, then ignored it and did the change people hated anyway. Listen to the fanbase and find other ways to help the new player orient themselves in their mech

Just logging into the forums for once to say that this is a horrible idea, would split the playerbase, and wouldn't be a mech sim at all.

A short crash course tutorial would be an infinitely better idea to orient new players to a game, not break everything the game currently is.

it would not feel like a SIM if it was third person, this is supossed to be a SIM. Plus third person would give camera advantage for corners. I would have to say worst idea ever

A definate heck no to the 3rd person hack, er, I mean view, but by all means, throw the 3rd person whiners a bone, put in a 12 ton electronics package that will let them fly around in thier cockpit and controll thier mech, give it one point of armor and make it flashing neon red so we can hud kill them easy thereby increasing the salvage bonus for those who work to aquire skill at the game instead of just abusing a cheasy view.

I've allways felt that the 3pv was invented so the mentaly challenged could play too.

that said, I wouldn't mind seeing some reasonable camera views, a rear mounted camera just makes sense, and maybe a shoulder mounted cam, but they should be destructable and cost tonnage to mount.

To reiterate, I agree with all the people who say NO to a 3rd person view.

I'll keep it short and simple: NO!

Why? Read the 85 pages of posts saying the same thing before this.

In fact, I don't think it should switch to 3rd person even when you're knocked over. Put it in a Picture-in-Picture on the HUD or something, but not swinging out to a full 3rd person.

BAD idea.
3rd person camera IS NOT MECHWARRIOR.

Podcast said it was an IDEA. IDEA. IDEA.
Not 'official'. Not 'already done, its just to be released'... IDEA.
Theres YET to be anything about it.

Anyways, everyone playing in 3rd person will play for a while.
If they wanna get serious tho and get good, theyll all move into 1st person anyways.
