WIth the upcoming change to MGs.. we might. I would find it HIGHLY amusing if they accidentally set the MG damage too high and they are OP for a little while.

I'm pretty sure I ran into you in a trial atlas. I think you had a guass cat with you. I couldn't see anything. Dropped to 5 fps with all the shaking and explosives. And all that smoke and spark was obscuring my view. I don't know if it is considered an exploit to intentionally overload the enemy computer so they get super crap FPS. Take away the spark and smoke and I'd be able to see you just fine and return fire. Take away the FPS drop and same thing to a lesser extent.
It's a deadly support weapon to minimize incoming fire from a specific target. You have to back it up with something else to do the actual damage.

If it overloads comps and causes FPS drop I am not aware as it has never done it to me. Also very few in our Regiment run Gauss Cats and I do not think anyone in my Company does that is who I group with. And trust me I am not the only Atlas who lights folks up with duel AC 2's. If it was me would not intentionally use a FPS drop exploit, but the shaking and smoke and flames are a tactic not an exploit.

Not gonna happen.
1. There's a lot more mechs than just the atlas that have a combined total of more than 60 armor+internals.
2. I don't think Quad guass will even be feasible due to tonnage, ammo, mobility, and survivability concerns.
3. One shot kill builds are already in game..you can only be so dead ya know

I'm more worried about the Jagermech and the Cataphract that will have 4 gauss at 60 damage. 1 shot just about anything short of an atlas without the need to aim for the cockpit.
Your not going to fit 4 gauss rifles on a single mech, period. a catapult is 65 tons. add 30 tons for 2 more rifles and thats 95. Then add the extra engine, structure, armor, gyro etc weight and you'll end up around 110-120 tons.
Maybe you *might* have done it with the old engines and no armor with one ton of ammo.

They're working hard on making machine guns OP as well, check out the weapon notes in command chair section.

It can be done if you get a 100-ton assault 'mech with the right hardpoints.
60 tons worth of gauss, leaving 40 tons for a slow engine, some armor, the internal stuff and ammo is not an unreasonable build.
That said, 3 gauss rifles would be plenty, and it's cannon on some builds already.

Clan stuff may or may not change things, its clear from the implementation of DHS they dont want things to be clearly better which most clan stuff is.

If all the nerf requests were followed in this game, the mechs would be wearing tyedye shirts, handing out flowers, and singing peace protest somes by now.
I see AC-2s as a useful, smartly balanced weapon. They cause enough damage to not be ignored, but they don't do instantaneous coring, they require a serious amount of time on the trigger to do that. And for that, the mech using them has to be visible also. Fair's fair.
If anything, I think AC-10s and AC-20s are a bit behind the AC curve. The AC5 and UAC-5 are useful and good where they're at, the LB-10X is a useless POS whose only saving grace is that it's fun to use because of the effects.(ie up the damage on the LB)
I've been killed by mechs boating AC2s, but I've also taken them apart myself, and they're not vey good in a COD because of the bullet speed. (especially if they have multiple weapon types)
