There's an easy way to tell if it gives no advantage. Go ask any lawn enforcement or military person "what if you could see around a corner, with no additional effort, and putting yourself at absolutly no additional risk or exposer?" and then count how many say "eh, take it or leave it, that's no significant advantage."

According to the other thread with the Poll:
4.90% say No
Total votes: 3,420
So I tend to concur with you, sir. Additionally I find it exceeding impossible to believe the 4.9% comprises all the F2P and casual gamers.
The question is how competitive do they want it to be, I think. Competitive gamers will go more toward less and less features like this - naturally. Casual gamers will want all the free helps they can get - particularly if they are F2P players. I expect we will see 3PV no matter which way the poll goes.

He feels that this is a poor response considering the massive outcry against 3rd person view.

I agree with the space pope. The poll was absolutely STAGGERING in the results.

That being said, really looking forward to the metagame and the political aspects.

For those who want 3rd person because you think looking at your mech while you run around blowing things up is cool. Thats fine I don't think anyone has a problem with that. The problem is that the increased field of view alone is an extremely large bonus not to mention all the other things that can be done with 3rd person. It's a problem with the highly competitive groups. Where you see a cool function I see a highly exploitable (being used in the good sense of the word not the cheating sense) function that gives little to no downside (learning to aim a little different is a non-issue) and many upsides. This forces anyone who plays to win to use the option regardless of their personal preference as giving up any possible advantage (sans cheating) is a foolish idea to those of us that only care about winning.

you don't fight in 3rd person
you switch to 3rd person to peek around corners and over hills, then go back to 1st person after making sure there's nothing on the other side that will kill you

Those "battletech fanboys," "purists," or whatever else you want to call them, are probably your long term paying customers who don't want 3rd person view. Those just interested in "any old casual shoot-em-up" are probably not going to stick around for the long term. Appeal to the latter if you want, but it's the veteran battletech and strategy fans who'll end up paying your grocery bills and mortgage payments far longer than the kids, shooter gamers, and casual gamers.
You signed up to have those people as your core audience. They said no. You don't beat the customer to death telling him how great it would be to have a blue station wagon when he clearly and emphatically said he wants a red sedan.
It should have been end of discussion on the very first day. I don't know why we're still talking about this.

Players of MultiPlayer Battletech EGA, Solaris SVGA and 3025 never had an option for 3rd person.. curiously nobody whined that it was too hard and we all played a great deal.
Is the current generation so ADD and impatient that they can't LEARN how to play a game ?
Sad statement indeed.

I fear they are. It doesn't help that this looks like a typical FPS to new players so they expect FPS style controls. THey just need a mandatory tutorial match that takes the new player through all the functions. I say mandatory because so many people would skip the tutorial and just complain about the stuff anyways.

No no no... no MW vs MA threads please. We've already stated that this will be a first-person perspective game. We've also addressed the gameplay speed and operations therein.
