Regarding 3rd Person View

I don't think it will happen because it would be the most brutal slap in the face of the player base I can imagine.

In other words a enemy unit could be behind you and next to you......and it would be invisible until they enter the field of view of the pilot.
3rd person is all your going to want after your the best.
Look once you got your god mode mech and always find yourself on top of the list....your going to start moving towards lil' more glamour, showing off, tricking out the mech....
When you get your custom skins..... you might want 3rd person to take screen shots n' stuff.
eventually no matter what your going to want 3rd person view in the long run. The sweet view of a DFA.
Aol solaris had it, mechwarrior 2 had it........We all know those two games and now MWO is the real canon. All the table toppers and companies can cry all they want.....You were at solaris you are real vet, thats the real canon thats what realley happened.
The canon of actually being there vs. they got mechwarrior movies they call canon and now pretend like those movies never happened.......old b mechwarrior movies..... with mechs that don't even moves......like a jenner just standing there... lol 2 robots next to each other dont even move and then flame thrower goes on........... Dude....please.
sides you get to hear betty say "external camera......engaged"
Back in the day they used to FIGHT in the mechs like boxers.......thier whole armor was red even the feet before they died.
3rd person view is canon.
Oh,an New Player with 1! Post only for 3PV ...Strawman and Marionette ...what for a demagogic poor Trick of the Kidding little whining 3PV Fraction

PGI told people there would be no 3rd person view in the press release of the game. You know why? It was to snag the hard core simmers who generally tend to back ferociously a sim. Look at Rise of Flight, that community is tight knit and they buy planes for each other, they are simmers. Now to keep their money up they need to draw in and keep the people who would otherwise not want to play a sim, you all know those people, the people who turned ammo off and heat off in Mech4. The non simmers who just want to blow stuff up to hell with a semblance of realism. Those are the target audience of 3rd person view. Like it or not disagree if you like, but nothing in life you do in the 3rd person, there is no reason to learn to pilot a robot by walking in the 3rd person, none at all. If you want to look at your mech, there is a pretty picture of it in the mech lab that look damn near exactly like what you are walking around in. Do you get out of your car going down the highway wondering what your car looks like speeding along? No, you dont.

If and when 3rd Person View appears in MWO without server limitations, I will do what I did with mektek's version of MW4 - not play. I stayed out of public or ladder leagues servers because they allowed both 3rd and 1st person view on their servers. I stayed on NBT-Mercs/HC FFP servers.
By server limitations, I mean 3 kinds: 3rd person only servers, 1st and 3rd person servers (you select which view you play with), and FFP only servers.
Otherwise, if you want third person view, PGI should make it so you can do nothing else but look - that means no cockpit controls other than pop out/in for a look and no mech movement, torso twist, or firing. You wanna shoot at something? Then you should only be in 1st person view to do it.

Obviously, you have never played a sim. Stay with consoles, mate. 3rd Person View really is for noobs. Mechs are on the battlefield and you are in them. Gun fire and missiles all coming at you are best seen from inside and you have to keep them from hitting you as best you can by tactical maneuver. If you are outside the mech during the firefight, you are not connected to the game. You're just shooting stuff and that mech you are sitting above is taking the heat, not you.

Fact is, that, those players who DO stay and put up with the BS of 3rd person will drive off the twitch crowd who came here simply because of 3rd person, because face this fact: they are not doing a bloody thing to teach players how to actually play. this game has a steep learning curve that even third person wont fix. a proper tutorial will. face it, 3rd person comes in, this game dies a month or two after, maybe 3 if they are lucky, but, it will kill it. IF they are looking to kill the game, then by all means add 3rd person.

Because many of those who would have increased the % arent currently playing (making posts) because they have decided to not play MWO because its solely 1st person.
and ftr: its not just because its first person, but because its a clunky first person that screams robot - not mech.

you had to take out the collisions because there were problems, which arise only for problems if additionally a 3D view of the 'Mechs must be presented?????

Training levels sort-of like what World of Tanks added in and doing something along those lines would be the best option, then eventually wean them away from 3rd person view. I know this has been brought up and I know you guys could make the training matches client side, using some sort-of bot system, and it would give them the ability to play those levels and learn the game which was your argument and not split up the community in the online version into two groups like Russ had mentioned with the option to have it on or off would.
Overall, I feel that would be the best option and I am sure that the 3600+ people that voted on this thread, http://mwomercs.com/...son-its-coming/ can agree with me. It would not effect the game at all because it simply would not be there for people to use on the online aspect, but in the training rooms it can be but it would be just against bots and not other humans.

I agree most of us well take the time to walk new guys through the motions. Learning on 3rd POV is going to make it that much harder when they move to 1st POV. Keep them out of the bad habits to start with.
