You sir, have no clue at all. The hardpoints are not better by any chance. 3 Gauss is a fail build and there are even better builds than 3x UAC5.

Or you can do 3x UAC5 in a 4X so the guns will all actually hit the same point.

Do not listen to this player. Although the bonuses one can acrue with XP are nice to have, it does not give a major bonus in battle, but it does help. It's little more than an incentive to continue your progression in MWO.

You won't learn much by suiciding either. It will kill the fun of the game for you.

Join a group of players and you will have more fun.

Get a load of this guy. What a joke. Founder visioning much?

Edit : I think I was wrong, edited out
Re-edit : No, I was right. You can't triple UAC5 a 4X

Um, they're going to release hero mechs with flat out better hardpoints that other variants of the same mech. It's going to happen, there is no debate. The upcoming Cataphract is an example. 3 UAC5's, 3 Gauss, etc.

Really? No debate at all? The hardpoints are just better? Sorry, I hardly see a Cataphract able to load 3 Gauss as being flat out better really. I mean I guess the number of hardpoints and space is greater but a mech with barely any armor and slow enough to make the Atlas a scout mechs to me makes the mech and thus the hardpoints flat out mediocre, at least in a configuration like that. The only flat out better part to me is that it gives more freedom with where you put things.

And you really can't say "there is no debate" on the internet. I believe it is internet law.

Sadly the game is getting P2W starting with a unique mech and if you don't pay you'll spill blood on the keyboard to get anything but hey, we are hoping for better days to come.

Actual 'launch' will not be for a few more months.

Please stop perpetuating this myth. The game is in "beta" only in the sense that it is an unfinished product, and people should have realistic expectations.

That doesn't mean it hasn't been "launched." All sales are real and final, anyone can play, and there are no more planned resets. Trying to massage the definition of "launch" doesn't change any of that.

Well said.

It's about time more people actually explained this, and to be frank calling it a beta is a bit of an insult given how feature incomplete this is.

How is 15% cooling rate and 7.5% run rate *not* a large bonus that makes you directly better in combat? Stop being so silly.

It is a marginal increase, not an, "I've paid thus I've won," scenario. The bonuses make your mech marginally better, but still killable by even a trial mech.

Hey everyone. I'm a new player and I'm looking for feedback from you oldschool players regarding this game.

Firstly, I'd like to ask:

1. How long has this game been out?

2. How much P2W (pay to win) is it. How necessary is the buyable currency and how much of an advantage does it give over players who do not use it? I for one tend to spend cash on games but I'm interested as to what extent it takes place in this one. BSG Online for example ate salaries for me... :)

Secondly, as a new player I ask: what are the things you wish you knew about this game when u first started and would have helped you in any way?

Cheers and thanks for the feedback!

1. Its been in open Beta for about 5 weeks. Its probably a minimum of 3-4 months away from launch but progress will not be wiped when it launched.

2. Not in any way at all. Its pay to progress faster (either get more xp to unlock skills faster and more c-bills to buy new mechs and upgrade faster or straight up buy new mechs with cash rather than playing for the c-bills, you still have to get the c-bills to upgrade them).

About the only item that you may really want to spend money on if you want to spend a significant time playing is more Mech lab slots to allow you to have more mechs at the same time. Spend $7 and you can buy 4 extra so its not too bad.

All the other cash only items are cosmetic/vanity.

The very first thing you need to under stand is how to set up weapon groups, that will help a lot. The post here will help you on the more technical side: http://mwomercs.com/...s-excel-inside/

The second piece of advice is try out all the Trial mechs, the different weight classes play differently so its not much fun saving all the c-bills to buy an assault and then find you really prefer playing the faster medium mechs.

League of Legends also made sales during Beta. The game is much more different now than it was at the time... your point?

Welcome to 2012.

Yes, DirectX11 was enabled during Closed Beta. Although, I do not believe all of the textures and such were ever fully implemented for DX11, yet. Now, DX11 is disabled until further notice.

YLW is not even close to P2W.

It is unique, but it is not any better than any other mech.

While yolo is crap so its p2L, the elmo may just be p2w, depending on what hardpoints accompany its 3 AC/gauss hardpoints.

It is mildly pay-to-win because players who are still grinding (and may be in awful trial mechs, or custom mechs without DHS yet, etc) get matched up against players who have fully customized mechs with maxed-out piloting skill trees routinely.

And yet paying players in a trial mech or a brand new mech (i.e. not fully customised) get put up against free players in their fully customised mechs with maxed out piloting skills. So how exactly is it mildly pay 2 win?

It is not a marginal increase. You're being ridiculous. You lose. Stop. Just stop.

15% more heat dissipation ends up being 3-5 effective heatsinks on most mechs. That's huge. The torso turn radius is a huge deal. The sharper turn radius is a big deal. The torso twist speed is a big deal. The speed is a big deal. Probably the most important one of all, as a matter of fact.

Get out

No, you're wrong. DX11 was never implemented and was never functional. If you tried to force the game in DX11 it did not boot up. Get out

You save your C-bills and earn enough to purchase another mech..............................

I began with a Founder mech, but if I didn't have the founder mech, then I would have just farmed up C-bills with a trial mech. I farmed C-bills with my Founder mech then bought a Catapult-K2 as my second mech.

The only difference is that I could earn some MXP for my Founder's mech... which is not extremely important.

Don't forget while you were farming with your founders mech you had free premium time as well, making your earnings 75% greater. If you were winning most matches in groups, your earnings were around 1.5 - 2 times greater after repairs than if you were losing. Losing a match in a trial mech with premium bonus was always better than a loss with an owned mech with premium, but winning with a trial mech with premium bonus was total crap compared to winning in an owned mech with premium.

It allows for different, superior builds, Triple Gauss or Triple UAC5(this one in particular) is far, far better than a silly quad AC5 build.

The Phract 4X can use triple Arm mounted UAC/5 (I know, I have one).

I get the feeling that some of the people panicking about the hero mech have never actually played a CTF-4X.
