LRMS should not be denied their lock, their accuracy/turn speed and spread can go to hell but it should deny their design, if a raven decides to turn the wrong way, *BLAM!* , it's his fault -

"you... you brought this on yourself."

Why don't they

1) make ECM heavier?
It now only weighs about 1,5 tons. It's basically a no-brainer to install on your mech. Is there ANY reason, to run a light mech NOT equipped with ECM? In my eyes, there isn't, because ECM makes a light mech SO much more viable on the battlefield. If the module was to weigh let's say 5 tons, THAT would be a huge drawback for a light mech, because that would mean, tha you have to give up speed and/or weapons and/or armor. And it would lead to the pilot having to make a decission what he needs more. And 5 tons are a lot...even for an Atlas. And no, I don't care what TT rules say about the weigh...

This was the first thing I stated in our voice chat by the 3rd or 4th round I played after ECM was initiated. At 1.5tons it is a no-brainer, keep all your weapons, your speed, your armor, and add HUGE tactical advantage. No question whether or not to run it even to the point that 25% of the players dropped their favorite mechs for the 4 ECM variants. THAT is what they need to fix. ECM needs to be a trade-off. Don't nerf it into oblivion, don't provide another band-aid "counter", just carefully balance it in. If it provides too much of an advantage, build in some disadvantages. Weight/heat is the universal balance in MWO.

Hunchback 4sp driver (don't own a cat or light-mech) so this is purely 3rd-party looking in...

you're not making it any better.

come up with a suitable solution to this problem, and maybe people will tolerate you a bit more.

Thats not a bad plan actually. Would be much better if there was simply a little x you hit to ignore someone like there is on the WoW forums.

How about heat, tonnage and hardpoints.
Make it heavy
If it's pumping out enough electromagnetic radiation to block line of sight microwave designators, it has to be generating a crap-ton of heat, too.
All that energy to flood the EM spectrum has to come from somewhere. It will require an energy point.
While we're at it, let's require it to be in an arm energy hardpoint. Torso is too shielded, legs to low, head would cook the pilot like the microwave generator it is.

Heat, tonnage and energy hardpoints.

There's a reason modern ECM aircraft are largely unarmed. The freaking ECM takes up all the space and capacity.

Oh, and while you're at the exact ground zero of all the interference garbage on all spectra, why the hell should your own targeting computers work?

"Make ECM work as it does in tabletop. It reduces the range the unit can be detected at by about half and negates BAP rather than blacking the unit out completely, and it negates the effects of artemis and NARC. That's it, that's all it does.

Meanwhile BAP should detect units hidden by cover if within 120m."

Now that is a good idea!

ECM should make locks slower to achieve/easy to lose and accuracy plummet, that's it.

That's all you need.

making this a "soft-counter" would even it out.

we can make Angel ECM a hard-counter for even more weight later.

ECM should only prevent the target mech from achieving locks. That way it is electronic warfare and not electronic MAD.

This would be a much more sensible implementation that is still very useful but requires some thought.

Brawling is certainly fun, but not all the time. When it's all the time it becomes boring. ECM has turned MWO into a boring game. I've played 4 matches tonight. Won two. Lost two. I'm bored to tears. Off to play something else for the rest of the evening that will hold my interest.

the bigger problem is the gamespeed

its not possible to kill a 35t mech fast in the game, you can run easy between the mechs they miss you too much ;)

last game there was a lagy raven between 5 mechs and yes the raven didnt die :D

i vote for a new game mode called "no ecm"

so all can play what they want ^^ but im sure that ecm games not longer be full 8ecm vs 8ecm is not so funny for the ECM lovers, i think ^^

The Raven seems to be particularly laggy. My ping is usually under 50, and driving a Jenner I have no difficulty hitting other Jenners or Commandos with lasers, but the Raven is jerking all over the place most of the time.

I think if they fix/remove ECM you will see less people disconnecting at the start of a match.

I must be a glutton for punishment, because I tried to give it one more shot in my LRM cata. After discovering the other team had 4 ECM units, I just powered down.
