Gundam sucks because the Japanese can't design good looking mechs. The Warhammer is the only exception to this.

Are you wrong your entire life, or just most of it?

Gundam is not a very good simulation 'usually'. Gundam doesn't have Joystick Support, 'usually'.

And MWO is going to be a top-notch giant-robot sim in a Universe in turmoil where mech-pilots use a "Joystick" and neuro-helmets to pilot their awesome robots of war like the knights of some future interstellar empire. <<<<<<<<<<<<<That's for me!

I wanted to vote "Yes BUT"

IF anyone has tried the Japanese Arcade gundam battlepods that have come out in the last 5 years, they will be come a gundam convert. There are ALL japan multiplayer, total gundam battletime that is ranked and persistent. My Japanese father-in-law got me to play with him and they are some of the most fun I have had in mecha.

I am a mid school (started in MW2) battletech fan but I have also had a late blooming appreciation for gundam series. The anime make the systems feel meh, but when you play games like the arcade pods, you realise it is a lot closer to battletech than you think. They have melee attacks too! :P If pgi wants to know a good way to do melee they should fly to Japan and try these awesome things. Worth the trip.

I'll still never understand this fixation so many people have with realism and simulations. I mean I can understand it to a certain extent with games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto but then you have these other games where you fight robots and Dragons and then people start nit picking over which one is the most realistic. On top of that you have people who use the term "realistic" as a synonym for terms like "good" or "enjoyable". I mean I get that there's a certain point where you jump the shark and you start to lose people but it seems to me like in recent years that tipping point has dropped to an astoundingly low mark.

That said, I think Forza is probably the most realistic mech simulator on the market since A) it has some pretty sweet physics and damage models and B) it doesn't have any robots in it. IL2 Sturmovik is probably a close second.

Don't make me laugh. GS/GSD has its flaws but if you want to see some real horror, then go watch Gundam 00 or the latest Gundam.... Age

00 season one was okay but AGE..

Some things are not meant for mortal eyes...

I like 00 the most out of three, even if the geometry of the designs make my eyes bleed sometimes. Seed was well done, especially since it was ultimately a modernization of the first gundam series... Destiney... well... Bad ThingsTM pretty much describes that series...

AGE? The first arc was ok... The second was good... the third was good then got worse... the fourth was... Eww...

Meh, different strokes from different folks.

Yeah, ZZ is one of my favourites, along with unicorn, but I know loads of people who hate them with a vengeance.

Battletech makes for good games and books, but IMO, Gundam is king of the TV as far as mecha goes.

Gundam?

If the Inner Sphere is saved by a 14 year old emo metrosexual and his band of merry high schoolers piloting experimental 3500 MC Hero mechs then

**** Gundam.

Actually Gundam is ok, only the UC though.

MechWarrior isn't, nor has it ever been gundam. Not even gundam based aside for some artwork.

I've never heard of MW being based on Gundam. Ever.
I do know BT was based on Macross designs (see: the Unseen), but that's it.
In no way, shape or form is MW similar to Gundam.
The politics and essence of the universe are similar to Zone of the Enders, if you must compare it to another franchise of this type.
But even then, the similarities end there.

Where's the "MechWarrior isn't a Gundam franchise" option?

Battletech/Mechwarrior is not gundam... There may be some minor visual similarities, but they are definitely not the same franchise.

In terms of other mecha games. I still own and play my battered PS1 copy of Front Mission 3, currently also playing DS release of Front Mission. That universe is pretty cool.

Also own Front Mission Evolved, which, shouldn't have been made.

With the popularity of XCOM keeping the franchise's gameplay as it was would still be popular rather than making it a 3rd person shooter.

Shouldn't this poll be in off topic section?

Also, for anyone who dislikes Gundam shows, watch "The 08th MS Team". You'll like it. There aren't any of the ridiculous experimental suits you commonly see jetting around everywhere; just the viewpoint of average pilots in common variants, fighting and dying in a fairly realistically thought out manner.
