O.k. so there are really only 2 Stalker Variants:

Stalker-5S: Hard Points:

Quote

* Left Arm: 2 Energy, 1 Missile
* Left Torso: 1 Energy, 1 Missile, 1 AMS
* Right Torso: 1 Energy, 1 Missile, 1 AMS
* Right Arm: 2 Energy, 1 Missile

Total Usable: 6 Energy, 4 Missile, 2 AMS

Most Comparable Awesome:
Awesome 8-R: Hard Points:

Quote

* Left Arm: 0 Energy, 0 Missile
* Left Torso: 0 Energy, 2 Missile, 0 AMS
* Right Torso: 0 Energy, 2 Missile, 1 AMS
* Right Arm: 2 Energy, 0 Missile
* Head: 1 Energy, 0 Missile
Total Usable: 3 Energy, 4 Missile, 1 AMS

Note: It's really only 2.5 Energy though, since one is in the head and can't mount anything beyond a MPL.

So you give up 3.5 Energy Slots and an AMS... really?
This is balanced?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option 2:

Stalker-5S: Hard Points:

Quote

* Left Arm: 2 Energy, 1 Missile
* Left Torso: 2 Missile
* Center Torso: 1 Energy
* Right Torso: 1 Missile, 1 AMS
* Right Arm: 2 Energy, 1 Missile

Total Usable: 5 Energy, 5 Missile, 1 AMS

Most Comparable Awesome (Still the Awesome 8-R): Hard Points:

Quote

* Left Arm: 0 Energy, 0 Missile
* Left Torso: 0 Energy, 2 Missile, 0 AMS
* Right Torso: 0 Energy, 2 Missile, 1 AMS
* Right Arm: 2 Energy, 0 Missile
* Head: 1 Energy, 0 Missile
Total Usable: 3 Energy, 4 Missile, 1 AMS

Note: It's really only 2.5 Energy though, since one is in the head and can't mount anything beyond a MPL.

So you give up 2.5 Energy and a Missile slot ... really?
Again, how is this is balanced?
------------------------------------------------------

So regardless of which Stalker you pick, you pick up at least 3 hard points. 3... that's an enormous amount of firepower.

What do you get in return for these 3 hard points as an awesome?
Nothing... The 8-R can't even equip a speedy engine.

Note: Since I know it's going to come up... Yes, the 9-M can equip a fast engine, but you get even fewer choices than the 8-R because the Hard Points are in the Center Torso.

New Mechs are not supposed to be upgrades to existing mechs, they are supposed to be equal but different. This is quite simply an outrageous oversight that needs to be corrected before it goes live. It's a direct slap in the face to all Awesome owners, and nobody will ever buy an Awesome again.

You must be confused if you think the developers of this game care about balance and gameplay. This game is about roleplaying the pilot of a cool big robot.

not to mention the stalker doesn't have movable arms like the awesome, meaning the awesome has a better firing arc.

Depends on how much you like arm mounted lasers?

The Stalker is going to have a bad_ss alpha no doubt, but should be harder to bring on target than an Awesome? Just throwing that out there because I live and die by arm mounted lasers.

They don't have to be necessary equal but all variants should have some kind of a unique thing. Some of those stalker and awesome variants are just plain worse than other options. There shouldn't be anything that's just worse in every aspect in the game as it doesn't serve any other purpose than to make a chance for a new player to accidentally use it and regret it later.

Well, to be fair, the Stalker's gonna be a honking big target from the side, at least as big as the Awesome is from the front. And it doesn't have an empty arm to use as a shield while torso-twisting. I know, small details, but the Awesome will remain better in some situations.

The Stalker has a huge heat-problem and if you stuff al those hardpoints with weapons there's not much room to balance the head with DHS. If you go for massive firepower you will have massive heat problems.

Stop trolling.
1) You are comparing the best Stalker vs average Awesome. Why not compare it to a laser Awesome? Of course to make your whining a little viable.
2) It's not the amount of hardpoints but tonnage and heat dissipation that are limiting mechs the most. So your talk about enormous loss of firepower is just a trick for noobs. Go home.

The Awesome is better in melee combat due to having arms and one arm with a hand.

Ohh wait............. ;)

Is this a serious post?

Because the only thing that matters in a mech is hardpoints, right?

Equal, clearly not. I don't even mind that there are "strictly worse" variants... but having an entire line of mechs be strictly worse than another?

That's a huge problem, what's the point of even having the Awesomes at this stage...

I will wager the popularity of the Awesome goes from "Sketchy" (since it was already considerably worse than the Atlas) to non-existant.

It's a huge issue, and you won't see an Awesome on the Battle Field ever again.

Seriously?

The premise of "balance" in warfare be it historical or fantasy is mythical and is born out of the illogical rational that "all things being equal".

Logical based "balance" is achieve by offsetting an advantage with an equal but opposite disadvantage... i.e. giving up speed/maneuverability for firepower.

I've about had it with the whole "need for balance" prattle....
