The images on the left are properly color graded and invoke a sense of grim war, tense atmosphere and emote.

The images on the right seem like they were run through a color balance filter on Photoshop that attempted to remove the color gradation, and give a sense of happiness, well-being, fun and other emotions that don't feel synonymous with mechanized warfare.

A sense of happiness, well-being and fun? Sounds like mechanized warfare to me... ;)

I, and many others, have been saying this since CB. The colours are too washed out / dull and while we can appreciate the artist approach taken it does make the game look really dull. There is a lot of impressive texture on the maps, if only they upped the colour a bit more to make it more vibrant.

Also sometimes the dust/haze is a bit too much. Is it too much to ask for a bright clear day (other then the snow variant of the existing maps?).

some where along the way in the world of war games and movies... Hollywood and game developers have gotten this idea that war is this murky dingy world. I get the artistic idea behind it, but really enough with the muted drabness.

just putting these filter over everything i guess give the dullness of a fog of war without actual spending resource in game to do real fog, but it is kinda boring... BF3 was the worst, yes i realize war is not a battle under a rainbow but we could go easier on the filters.

i've resorted to bumping up the digital vibrance up to about 75-85% in the nvidia control panel, the game looks better, but of course my retinas burn out when looking at my desktop icons.

YES. Right-side for the win.
What's the fun of playing a futuristic mechanized combat game taking place on alien worlds with 30 foot tall walking tanks with custom paint jobs, when everything looks like a faded photograph.

And for the folks saying it's more realistic: Yes, prolonged combat usually kicks a lot of dust and smoke into the air, but:

A: Who says all these maps we fight in have been contested for a prolonged time? I can easaly see forest colony being a "Hot drop onto a newly conested patch of land" kind of situation, so the area would still be fairly clear.

B: Regardless of the amount of weapons fire and explosions, light is still light, matter is still matter. It's not like once more then two firearms are discharged, some magic force turns the color saturation down on the fabric of reality.

C: If you want grim, gritty, sad, emo realism, this might not be the right IP for you. In this world, we have mercenarys that play bagpipe music over all channels as electronic warfare, pilots who blast rock n' roll out of loudspeakers on their mechs, giant robot gladiator fights just for the hell of it, and enough pop-culture references to choke a horse.
Saving private Ryan, this is not.

The feel of warfare isn't dependent on the landscape being drab - sometimes battles are fought in places of surpassing beauty. The retouched screenshots, particularly the Dragon starring in The Sound of Music, look more like a real-world, sun-is-shining, images - they look more alive. That being said, there's nothing wrong with the colors we have now; but a somewhat brighter look would be better in some cases. Not every battle needs to be fought at the end of a summer drought (see first set of pictures.)

There's a work around for the film grain and several of the lighting effects. I just don't remember where the stupid thread is hiding.

I do wish the skins/patterns etc. were a bit more saturated.

The PC Gamer skin, for example, now looks quite bland and washed out. It used to be quite nice and noticeable. I submitted a ticket thinking it was a bug but apparently this is how it's meant to be.

The reply I got from a GM he personally liked the colours before too! But they won't change those back.

But across the board the paints etc. look bland, washed out, too dark and non-descript. I don't agree with the non-permanent nature of the cosmetics anyway but couple that with how bland and dark/washed out they look as well definitely have no interest in paying anything for those.

No Battlefield 3 is all for blue everywhere. You can notice the BF 3 blueish colors on the right Hunchback on the supposed "non-filtered" picture. ;)

Just for some idea on how filters do in games for people who don't know about it:

Haven't you heard? Real Is Brown:

(WARNING: tvtropes link. Management assumes no responsibility for hours lost if you click on that link.)

And yes, I think they at least should have the more colourful as a day-time option on some of the maps.

They disabled bf3 color tweaker, it no longer works with the game...

Why would the "stupid" game developers listen to you when you start out insulting their intelligence in an ex cathedra pronouncement containing no logic as to why their artistic choices displease you - and then claim they're illogical?

Only the Founder ones. The stock ones used to be black with red trim, but are now green like every other 'mech.

I thought the mechs had the same color in the game and in the mechlab? Am I mistaken?
