I thought the mechs had the same color in the game and in the mechlab? Am I mistaken?

No, they should have. Perhaps it is me that's mistaken. I could have sworn the Hunchies were black with red trim before the camo patch, and that now they're green? I only own my (pale blue) founder's Hunchie, so I might be mistaken.

I don't need the whole spectrum of the rainbow in one screenshot.
The pics on the right, too bright. HOWEVER. The current version of the game could use about +10 from the Hue/Saturation filter from Photoshop.
The "Auto Color" and "Auto Contrast" Features OP used are just too over-the-top. They're almost as bad as the pictures to the left of them.

TL;DR:
Wouldn't mind seeing more colour, but nothing ridiculous like OP's. I'm going to play around with my video settings to see if I can tweek the game myself.

A still picture can make the game look terrible, or awesome. But until you see it in motion, and how it affects your gameplay, you can't take anything useful from these photoshoped pictures.

Why would the "stupid" game developers listen to you when you start out insulting their intelligence in an ex cathedra pronouncement containing no logic as to why their artistic choices displease you - and then claim they're illogical?

Many of developers don't know or don't understand that warm, bright, colorful graphics and pleasing relaxing / exciting sound are very important aspects that make people want to comeback and comeback to their game because they are having fun and enjoyment in it.

I always feel bad and frustrated after playing Battlefield 3, not only because it's a dumb down game and a rushed consololo port with 100+ bugs glitches and exploits but ALSO because it have very depressing colors and bad sound.

The idea that war makes you percieve desaturated colours is flabbergasting.

Some color correction can be justified by pollution and lighting conditions on alien planets, but only so much.

The Hunchbacks in MWO are actually blue. ;)

No, they use the Atlas Hunter's color scheme. It's a separate mercenary group and they have a guy that makes amazing repaints which made devs actually use their color scheme on the Hunchbacks.

A few patches earlier, they standardised all the skins into that pretty ugly, but effective dirty green camo.
You're probably reffering to the founder's Hunchback camo, but the mech on the picture is clearly not one of those.

Hello all.

To begin, let me just say that I adore the graphics in this game. The art team over at Piranha games is extremely talented and this game looks better and better over time. That said, I prefer the feel of earlier screenshots in the 'media' section, where there appeards to be more colour variation and a more vibrant battlefield. As 'gritty' as colour washes can make things seem, the reality is that the world is extremely colourful, even in washed out scenarios.

With that said, I have tried using ENBseries in conjuction with MW:O in an effort to increase colour saturation in the game. I have been using the Resident Evil vivid colour template as a starting point, but am proceeding slowly as there is no way to test graphics changes without entering a full blown match, and I have no intention of discoing upon drop just to take a comparison screenshot. Also, each map having different colour templates may have an effect on how the palette changes affect them respectively. I think it'll take some time do do multiple tests on multiple maps with multiple configs to see if im going in the right direction.

Anyhoo, I'll try and work out some comparison screenshots tonight and see if I can squeeze some saturation using the ENBseries shaders.Any help/ideas to this regard would be great, but if I have any progress, I will make a post ...

Surprised no one has asked for the config yet.

Can you please post or PM me the config lines?

Fog, grain, blur, rain/snow... I knew my vision was always drastically impaired in MWO, and it's definitely been one of my most serious issues with the game.

But I hadn't realized one of the causes was that everything being gray/brown also contributes to the terrible visual conditions.

All these "effects" just end up giving us terrible picture quality...

They should give the option to change the visual effect filters, or just have alt maps like 'Forest Autumn' and 'Forest Spring' for the left and right color sets, respectively.

Both are okay. The gritter feel does impair a lot of mech paint jobs, it sure put me off from buying paintjob myself.

Grittier? War-like? Have you guys been outside? It's freakin' cramped with color.

Even cities get colorful.

The outside world is bright. Saturated. Multi-hued. Colorful. It's also a great deal more interesting. Brown landscapes do not look natural. Grey cities do not look lived-in.

Anyone used FXAA injectors to correct stuff in MWO successfully? Something like SweetFX?

Edit: I have some free time tomorrow so i might give it a go, will post again if it works.

SweetFX download link:

Lumasharpen works, didnt do any color corrections yet but should be ok to...just read the readme.txt and adjust the game in any way you want to. U used the steps in the compatibility.txt under "Crysis 2".

Heres the presets file to give you an idea of what can be adjusted:

On topic: Im fine with the colours in the game. Some maps are to dark though (Forest Colony) or the fog is to thick (Frozen City).

I've got to agree. Just as filters in photography are rather passe they don't contribute anything except for slower frame rates and muddy images in gaming either.

The images on the left are properly color graded and invoke a sense of grim war, tense atmosphere and emote.

The images on the right seem like they were run through a color balance filter on Photoshop that attempted to remove the color gradation, and give a sense of happiness, well-being, fun and other emotions that don't feel synonymous with mechanized warfare.

The images on the left also look like doo doo. You can convey grim war through the environment not the "brown poo".

Its all about feel, or more accurately aesthetics. In a war game, one would expect gritter aesthetics.

Granted, I think MWO went abit overboard.

The colors on right looks good plus actually make camo and paint job useful, but I don't get right feeling looking at it for a mech warrior game. Too Farcry-ish?

I will go with the gritty atmosphere on the left.

This is just like the whole Diablo 3 color palette debunkle, but in REVERSE! :)

Here are some screenshots i took with sharpen and overdone vibrance and r_colorgrading = 0. You can make it look absolutely different with other settings but its worth it just for the sharpening filter. I wont run the game with these settings just the sharpening, posting to encourage people to try it

Didnt have the time to get any good ingame shots yet, may update post once a friend comes online to "pose"...
