So no single player campaign, no coop, no local multi, no 3015.

I totally disagree. There are many old single player gaming communities still going strong and making mods. Look at Morrowind, Xcom, Oblivion, etc, etc. Many of the long lived multiplayer games have the single player aspect to thank for their longevity. Take Falcon 4 for example. The single player campaign is why people still play it. Try finding more than a handful of people flying online at any given time. Rise of Flight is a perfect example of how the single player experience really makes a game stronger. The community of Rise of Flight never really took off until they implemented improvements to the sp campaign. Jason of 777 studios has said that all their data points to an overwhelming majority of people playing sp only, which is why they've concentrated on the sp campaign.
I am willing to give this game a chance, but I'm pretty sure that I am going to be disappointed with it. It wil have all the negatives of online play (waiting forever for a match, online idiots, annoying kids, etc.) and none of the positives of a single player experience.
I really wish that they would have taken the business model of Rise of Flight into consideration when developing this game. It would have fit perfectly for a mechwarrior game. Instead they've created a huge road block for any future single/multiplayer mechwarrior game. No developer will touch it after this.
p.s. Who knows, maybe if this is successful, infinitegames will consider doing a singleplayer.

Yes, of course I loved the single-player MechWarrior games, and I'm bummed that PGI didn't get to make the epic MW game they wanted. However... it is clear that this project is being headed by people who truly love MechWarrior and understand it from a TableTop perspective and from a lore perspective, which mitigates all the concerns I'd otherwise have about the quality of an F2P online game and the misguided design decisions that come with it.
Also, in a single-player game, you can't make your own Merc outfit with your friends and patrol the Inner Sphere. This is why I have thought for a long time that MW would make a fantastic online game, whether they had done an SP title or not. It opens up a lot of possibilities, and I think it is gonna be awesome.

Could you kindly quote a developer or publisher regarding the 2nd part starting with "no single player campaign"?
[EDIT]...or something regarding canceled co-op mode...
I think I forgot to add a certain aspect of what I said about no singleplayer etc... and that's that from what I can remember of what I read, was that it would not be part of the initial launch of the game, and might rather come later... if things go well for the game.
For all intent and purpouses, unless something changes along the way... MWO will be pretty much multiplayer only at the launch of the game.
But since I could not compleatly remember where I read all this I had to go back and read all of it again to find the hints, bit's and peices etc that has lead me to think all this. Here is what I have found on the various things.

This is from the FAQ:
Q. Will MechWarrior® Online™ have co-operative gameplay?
A. This is something we wanted to implement, but right now we are going to focus on multiplayer only.
- - - - - -
- - - - - -
These two bellow quotes comes from one of the PC Gamer article that I found in the "Please Read This First" thread in the General Discussion sub-forum.
- - -
Let’s talk about what MechWarrior Online is going to be. The first question on my mind as I read this press release is that, honestly, when I think MechWarrior, I’m thinking of, well, MechWarrior 2 through MechWarrior 4. Is MWO in that vein?
Creative Director Bryan Ekman: Yeah, absolutely. From a gameplay point of view, it’s the online component of those games. It’s match-based gameplay. So you go in, you fight, and you come out. So in that sense, it’s absolutely true to the heritage. The way you control the Mech, and the way the Mech works, and the options available to you during gameplay are inspired by Mech 2 through 4. Anybody who has played those games will feel right at home playing MWO.
- - -
Is there any chance of, say, cooperative missions? Where you’re playing through a story mission, or a fun challenge mission with scripted events?
BE: We have considered co-op. We’ve discussed single-player. We’re looking at how those will play out. But right now, as part of the initial launch, those will not be included.
- - - - - -
So, based on that, no singleplayer, atleast not until some time after the launch, and probably only if the game does well and sticks around for some time.

I'm not sure this is accurate, I actually had my hopes up before playing it that WoT would be Mech Warroir but with tanks, but IMHO it really wasnt't, so I don't think it works the other way around

yeah but WoT is a different beast, you have a crew of a tank, not a single mechwarrior, it's also WW2 not the 31st century. however I like the overall structure to WoT with its upgrade trees, items, etc

such is my point, the logic was that mw cannot be wot with mechs as the poster said, because then my expectation that wot would be mech warroir with mechs would have be true

2 years waiting for just another F2P MMO. Great.
Why don't you hold off on the disappointments until there is more.. things might change or they might not. Think of how the clanners will feel too if they start in the year 3025 or 3039 hmmm no clan stuff at all

I hope all this negativity gets converted into hopeful optimism. A lot of people have wanted to see a new Mechwarrior game for a while now. Stick around and give it a shot. We still have a year until it comes out and the information will flow.

First. Don't blame the developers, blame all the companies who are doing nothing but 2-bit sequals. They couldn't get a publisher that was interested in reviving the Mechwarrior name.
Second. This game will not be an MMORPG or something else, it's still Battletech. It's still Mechwarrior. It's just free. And being free is better than having a payed for Multiplayer only game. And it's way better than the game not being made at all.

MWO will hopefully be, WoT style with Mechassault arcadishness with Mechwarrior Customization.
Log on, pick mech & fitting then join and it lobbies you into the next match.
Like WoT each team will need light, medium and heavies/assault mechs.
But just because thats what you want, Doesnt mean that it also can't have things that other people want. I know tons of people would BUY campain content, that they could try to solo, or run with close freinds in instanced mission worlds.
If that doesnt happen at launch, I certainly hope the game does well and money is made, and the game can be added on with content others would like to purchase. If that sells well, then that could lead to more mission content, and more money to be spent on adding things that the fans keep asking for.
Make a solid base and all that other stuff can be added on later.
To me if the only thing i can do is log in, join a mutiplayer match, and thats it.. I think that would loose its appeal really fast for many. New stories, new content, new maps, new missions, that would keep me playing for a really long time. Whats wrong with wanting to do it all?
Casually logging in with a bud, and taking part in a story could go a long way in making revenue.

Its 10 years since MPBT and if this is the dream come true, ***** singleplayer and ***** console ports. Everyone ******** about a singleplayer game: Read the Dev blog here and understand why we get no "oldskool" Campaign game with decent MP. If you do not like the decision, you are not forced to play this game. Go dust the old MW games off or play that awful Mech Assault **** for single player fun.

Pretty much what I though when I heard about this. Battletech has so much potential for great stories - instead we get another MMO where people don't win because they're better but because they spend more time playing and got better equipment. We'll see how good this game will actually be but I must that that I am disappointed as well.
