Firstly let's try to remember that we're talking about new player here. Grinding the money for atlas and then grinding the money to actually make the atlas a viable build are very hard work for new player.
For that reason I recommend you to keep the Hunchpack, since it should net you more money than the trial mechs. If you at all like the Hunchie, get double heat sinks and endosteel and that will make all the difference, but if you're all set on getting long range LRM boat then perhaps you can keep it as it is. The cadet bonus should help you quite a bit to get you a Catapult, which I stongly recommed.
Atlai are brawlers and unless you know exactly what you're doing then you will get frowned upon for standing in the back.Stalker is good, but very very expensive to get. Also it's nefariously slow and easy to outmaneuver. This and the last posts have the links to the mechlab program, on the up right you can see the cost to make these builds, most of that comes from the chassis and then double heatsinks (1,5M C-bill) and endosteel (~700k C-bill) Decide for yourself which you want to aim for. Both are very good chassis, CPL has the gaussapult and AC/20-kitty and stalkers just carry shitload of weapons.
This perhaps what I would suggest for a starting player

C1 is perhaps slightly better dedicated LRM boat due to the laser hardpoints, but C4 is much more versatile. You can make it to SRM or Streak-boat with 2 med pulses, or add more LRM launchers if you really want to go all-in.
