Thanks. The thing is, i want to buy one mech and make it good, im kinda afraid to buy catapult and be sorry abaut it because i die too fast. I want to fire LRM's from afar, but if catapult cant have extra short range weapons, and stalker/awesome/atlas can, then no thanks, why even bother with catapult, ill only be selling it to get money for better mech. But i really think catapult looks best by far. But looks cant kill . So im sitting at 7 mil CB's, looking for what to buy, looking movies on youtube, reading forums...but just cant decide. Im kinda down to: catapult C4, awesome (the one with 4 missile slots), stalker 5M or 3H...still dont know which fits better), and atlas AS7-D-DC suggested above. Is it true that rockets mounted on belt (awesome, atlas) are not so good for shooting over the buildings and hills?

If you like LRM boating you could try this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...12347583daa8443 (also has 5 small lasers for pointblank defense), the 3F stalker has the most torso twist so it's most forgiving.

try and build some mechs for yourself with that tool. It's awesome to see what builds are possible without buying the mechs.

Firstly let's try to remember that we're talking about new player here. Grinding the money for atlas and then grinding the money to actually make the atlas a viable build are very hard work for new player.

For that reason I recommend you to keep the Hunchpack, since it should net you more money than the trial mechs. If you at all like the Hunchie, get double heat sinks and endosteel and that will make all the difference, but if you're all set on getting long range LRM boat then perhaps you can keep it as it is. The cadet bonus should help you quite a bit to get you a Catapult, which I stongly recommed.

Atlai are brawlers and unless you know exactly what you're doing then you will get frowned upon for standing in the back.Stalker is good, but very very expensive to get. Also it's nefariously slow and easy to outmaneuver. This and the last posts have the links to the mechlab program, on the up right you can see the cost to make these builds, most of that comes from the chassis and then double heatsinks (1,5M C-bill) and endosteel (~700k C-bill) Decide for yourself which you want to aim for. Both are very good chassis, CPL has the gaussapult and AC/20-kitty and stalkers just carry shitload of weapons.

This perhaps what I would suggest for a starting player

C1 is perhaps slightly better dedicated LRM boat due to the laser hardpoints, but C4 is much more versatile. You can make it to SRM or Streak-boat with 2 med pulses, or add more LRM launchers if you really want to go all-in.

Stalker 5M is what you want.

tag, 4x LRM15 (and maybe an extra lrm5 in the left torso, second launcher only has one hole so launches one by one). could put in a few small lasers as backup, they weigh nothing.

the 5M is also a brilliant large laser boat.

I enjoy this also. I run 3 LRM 15 (Artemis..ed) 4 MLAS and TAG, as the damage output of 4MLAS is quite a surprise to anyone thinking that you are meat once they are under your guns.

I would suggest though BigDaddyGG, that you would enjoy some of the longer range direct fire weapons, specifically PPC's for energy, or Gauss, AC2/5/UAC5 - mainly because you will learn a whole lot more about aiming and surviving that you will sitting back with LRM spam.

Hot tip: Use thermal vision, and learn the ranges of your weapons. You can see mechs on thermal waaay beyond your sensor range, and tossing PPCs or Gauss at extreme range targets is quite satisfying, and will likely allow you to survive longer (not being on the frontline and all that). You will likely also learn how devestating lights can be to an Assault, but you'll learn that no matter where you are on the battlefield.
