Yeah, thats just the same thing i said, but with fewer words. :)

Nobody of us knows what the devs are looking for but I guess its correct, that they aren't that interested and worried about high-end PCs having problems running the game or getting people who know the universe in and out to see whether everything fits to their taste and if they are able to play the game (controls, understanding of mechanics etc.) without problems.

^^ ya man thats why i got confused as well...cause if its like 1000 keys for 7 days and they have already given out another 500 keys, that leaves us with 500 keys only for next 7 days..which will be like less than 75 keys pre day

It definitely went a bit wonky.

Initially they said "1000 keys over the next 7 days". The following day they released all 1000 keys. The day after another 500. So I'm not really sure what to expect next.

It would seem that PGI are masters of Mechwarrior; but not mathematics. :)

The actual number of players the server can support is probably not yet known. Also, maybe a lower-than-expected volume of the initial 1000 were showing up at the same time and spurred the additional 500 keys

Why you can't talk about a Closed Beta (The point behind an NDA)

For those who don't understand why, its a simple fact that in the stage of a game where an NDA is in place it is usualy because the game is so mutable. Just about anything is subject to change and if word got out about some features, or worse, incomplete information, ther would be drama in the forums beyond what is already there. Then when said feature was removed for any number of reasons (ballence, feasability, too buggy, whatever) there would be even more of an uproar becuase it was an "expected" feature. Lots of claims that the feature was "promised" and then not delievered.

The reason for not stating that you are in a close beta is also simple. Just stating that only really serves the purpose to brag to or inflame those who didn't get in. It also makes you a "target" for alot of pressure to give information about the closed beta.

So please, don't ruin the game by being bad beta testers!

Its the first batch of keys man, don't worry about it you will get in. They have to do a stress test sometime.

QFT they usually increase the testing pool a ton prior to open beta, etc.

They will have to do some kind of stress test before 19th june when the game packs go live... if i am not wrong the founders package allow the buyer access to beta as well...so we should expect more players joining closed beta soon..

Plus they still need to run it for EU servers....

Didn't you see the Diablo 3 launch? Highly anticipated game, and they brought the servers to their knees. A scalable game is very important, and even the best estimations are sometimes not enough.

Well, being beta tester is not so funny as most probably think. It's not like you are playing for fun ;)
It's for testing, if game allows do tricks, overuses, will rockets go to designated targets, will mechs get stuck on cliffs and so on. Plus engine details, like 'why in heavens i get this error when i shoot laz0rs'?
Still, it would be awesome to be part of creating this game (even if its only testing), congrats beta testers

1.5-2 months of beta testing is a decent amount of time to run by the time it's July 17th (and Founders gain access to Beta) From that point, I'm wondering just how long the beta will continue until it is stopped before the gold release of the game.

Early beta access could see them testing the game for a good 2+ months. That should hopefully get a lot of good feedback.

The number of folks signing up are increasing faster than the invites are going out. Now we're down from 1:115 to a 1:120 chance. Therefore what we should all expect is to not get the invite.

Aww... That's no way to keep positive. If you had a 1:115 chance of dying tomorrow I bet you'd think twice about those odds ;)

Seriously, if the lottery had those odds I'd play every day.

Besides, close beta is great, and I'm sure those lucky 1000 are going to have a blast, but they also get to deal with all the worst bugs right off. So even if you don't get picked, you're going to enjoy a much more streamlined game by open beta. So patience patience patience is my motto.

i did, thats why i said they need to bring in more players. off course you cannot exactly estimate but you can try to come in close enough, Now i never played wow but i was told by some friends that this is something common with blizzard, they mess things up at launch. on other hand if you look at star wars the old republic they handled this issue quite well, by bringing in batches of players so that the servers dnt get messed up at launch..

I hope the devs will learn from blizaard and Bioware...it can save them from a lot of unhappy players on day 1...

I am a sad panda, long weekend without a beta invite. Oh well, hope those in got a ton of bug reports filed, and that PGI spends next week squashing them all out of the code.

..... Maybe they can market BugJelly when they are done?
