Update for everyone, I'll no longer be providing the user.cfg files any more updates. I've created a final package for the community that is still playing MWO, and would like to take the time to thank everyone over the past 3 years for their help in making the user.cfg possible.

We achieved some great things with the user.cfg files, enabling many players to play over the years with higher framerates and visual fidelity.

I wish all you mechwarriors the best of luck in the future, I may be around once in a while, but I am moving on to Heavy Gear Assault.

You can download the final package from [redacted]

Since egomane and PGI killed this topic, I'm calling it quits. Good luck out there.

*Salute*

I always vouch to having shadow quality as low as possible, shadows don't necessarily help you play better. The other options look good though.

Yes, if you dont have a strong video card for sure. however the 7870 can handle this setup nicely with a dual core.

Low end user.cfg file by popular request.

Spoiler

remember to adjust mouse sensitivity 0.1 might be way to low for a lot of you ;)

Depth of Field and SSADO/SSDO also cause heavy FPS hits and seem to hit the CPU harder or they are just pushing my rig to far as i lose a good 10 FPS with either of these on still. You can turn these on in the high end user.cfg if you enjoy the eye candy/effect.

ok, so sorry if this sounds stupid.

But, if i got it right, copy/paste this to your user.cfg and you get better graphics?

Will Gtx680 lightning, 16gigs of 1866mhz mem, dual SSD's @ raid0 and i7-3770k be enough?

Thanks for replies =)

Pfft, what a toaster, no way that'll work. How do you even run the game in the first place?

And yes, if you've never edited your user.cfg before it'll appear blank. Just paste all of that into it and it'll be hunky dory.

I modified the high config file you have here with r_MotionBlur = 1 and r_ColorGrading = 0 as well as enabling SSAO. I love the results. Thanks for the guide.

With the most recent patch the high end user.cfg file appears to perform better than PGI default high for me at least.

Update: still getting suttering & FPS drops. Managed to completely fix issues with the following file. This is a high quality using some setting from medium. this file is giving me 30-40FPS reliably in small fast mechs. You may need to lower settings for worse gpu/cpu

high/medium config that improves colour vibrancy & HDR. DoF disabled, set to 1 or 2 if you prefer it on.

i thought the user config isn't working, because some would use it to remove all only to see the mechs earlier?

no user.cfg is harmless, the .pak file is where true magic happens.... you can extract files and change stuff :P

You risk crashing the game & bugs etc though. Also I suspect that as we near release these files will be validated and locked down ;)

Did you overclock Frosted? I may do some Overclocking after the next patch to see if that kills any minor FPS drops I'm still seeing on the E8400 at Stock values.

Prada Vinson, is there any Board Of Review, or Brevet Commission Council, that we can write to to suggest an advancement in your rank?

I recognize that you may be familiar and sentimentally attached to your current label and Rank of Colonel, but in the opinion of many here (humble and otherwise) your services to the community, and "Heroic Efforts in the Face of Not Having Enough Enemies" (translated: Letting a lot MORE of us play the game!) CLEARLY shows that by now a significantly higher rank is now merited.

If it later becomes possible to change your registered name, I suspect that many here would kick in to see you advanced to Brigadier or General of some sort.

Thank you so much for all your work,

Storm Wraith,
Feudal Sakkran Researcher, Close Personal Friend of Yasuki Taka,
and House Liao Minister in Charge of Remembering how to spell Maskiki-, Masviro-.... Maskirovka?
SECRET SERVICE.
