Anyway, not reading the new flood of posts on this, but I will say this:
I spent last night blowing away A1's, all night long. The moment I saw an A1, whether a cheese build Splatterpault™ or mix'n-match C1/C4 with SRM's, I came at you and I came at you hard.
It was funny because when I stopped pugging and starting doing drops with my merc group I had the people who were spectating me comment, "Dimento, you took his ears, and you took his leg, why leave him?"
My response: "There's an A1 thread where people who supposedly own these things are saying they are over powered. Right now, I don't think he's feeling all that overpowered, do you? Let some Spider or Commando finish him off..."
If you received this treatment last night, I'm not apologizing.
What was I killing these A1's with all night? Here's the list of what I piloted and what I scored A1 kills with:
Cat K2, AC/20x2, MLx2
Muromets, Gaussx2, MLx3
Raven 3L, SSRMx2, MLx2, TAG
Death's Knell (Smurf), MLx4
Atlas D-DC, SRM6x3, ERLLx2
Cataphract 4x, AC/5x4
I piloted a lot of other 'mechs, but those are the ones that I dropped in matches that had A1's and that I got A1 kills in.
The A1 is not 'broken', it's just easier for bad/average pilots to do better in, like the Raven 3L and Commando 2D before the netcode changes removed most of the lag shield issues.
Admittedly I died to A1's a few times. Mostly my mistakes, some got the drop on me (not my mistake, it just can happen no matter how carefull you are), some I think had some accidental help from overly exuberant PUG team mates trying to get the kill shot, not being carefull who was around them when spamming their Alpha button.
But the fact is, A1's are NOT unstoppable death machines.
Can we pick a REAL issue to be bitching about, like continued yellow screen issues, DC's, etc...
