An A1 with 6 SRM6 has the best direct fire/dumb fire alpha in the game with great speed and maneuverability. In 4 seconds the 6 SRM6 cat can deal 180 damage... or 45 DPS. In 4 seconds a Muromets will have a jam, or if single firing not even be able to compare damage to a splat cat. Also a Muromets hitboxes are terrible for XL engines.

Kinda apples and oranges. The splatcat is spread-fire damage (and limited to 270m) and the UAC5amets is focused damage with more than twice as much range... Either way, the net result is pretty much the same. Both can burn down targets VERY quickly and rack up tons of damage. Your video had me cracking up. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when you dropped on that poor spider at the cap point ;) I haven't played catapults since closed beta - but that looked like a lot of fun...

I'm sure no other mech in the game has any highlight reels out there where someone is showing off their kill shots and cutting out all their failures. That is definitely hands down proof!

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that people don't watch gameplay videos to see failure? The 2nd half of the video is uncut gameplay. I guess I could also mention that I gathered all the footage for that video in 2 hours, much quicker than any other mech so far. OP mechs are easy to make videos for, what can I say.

Even though I generally agree with just about everything Helmstif posts, I gotta disagree here. One of the best aspects of MWO is that you can rock some crazy, special purpose builds. While SRM Cats can be annoying (as are 5Ms, 8Rs, triple gauss Cataphracts, etc), they are not nearly as detrimental to the overall game play experience as the lack of skill-based matchmaking.

I don't want the ability to run special purpose builds to be removed/diminished just because some are really powerful in certain situations. I think it makes for a more interesting and varied game.

I made an A1 just to unlock my founders elite trees, Painted it purple and orange and run splat build for lol while I get its xp outta the way... While fun it gets old quickly, all of the valid points in its weaknesses have already been brought to light in this thread, I must say the things are powerful but against coordinated players next to useless, the problem is most teams barely look out for them unless premade. The biggest issue with these advanced builds being OP is in the matchmakeing, rank 1's should not be lined up against seasoned vet's, call me crazy but im guessing new players have no idea what we are talking about when we say A1 boat inc focus fire. I call these things out as I see them and one out of ten times does the pug team actually focus them down.

Once the matchmakeing is in order and we dont have a random mismatch of new players with a couple vets in each game these builds will be way less effective, right now its basically skilled players having a field day against noobies from what I have seen. Again a skilled team has little to no problem against the A1, even less against a K2, the ac20 build is extremely limited ammo/speed/range and the gauss build is just plain volatile, 1shot a guy with my dbl ppc hunch other day 15-20 seconds into the match 1 blast into the gauss and it was done, spotted the k2 outline from a mile away, he didnt even get a shot off.

I'm on the "balance matchmakeing first" bandwagon, as that will catagorize the skilled/experienced players against each other THEN we can actually see how the teamplay aspects work out before nerfing weapons or chasis.

I made a video of an abusive build because of the naysayers:

I PILOT one from time to time, and I'm a naysayer. I know EXACTLY how strong they are and aren't, and am painfully aware of how easy it is to take one down.

No easier to take down than any other mech.

Lop off the arms at range. Had it happen to me plenty of times. There've been times I have lost half my firepower before firing a single shot.

For the record, THIS is my SRMcat. I suppose it's more of a budget build, lacking an XL engine and all.

I usually do much better with my K2.

Sometimes opfor gets the drop on you. Hard to take cover from an enemy you didn't know was there.

I think I know why you aren't impressed with SRMcats now. Mine runs 4 more heatsinks, 2 more tons ammo and jumpjets. You should give it another spin :-p

I frequently lose my arms or am dead before I run out of ammo. Maybe 1/10th of the time I'm still alive when I tap the ammo out. I'm more impressed by the extra heat sinks than anything else.

You're underestimating jumpjets, they help with survivability a lot.

I stripped mine out because they weren't helping me at all, I wanted better ground speed.

EDIT: Well, they helped a little, but not with survivability. They saved me a few seconds maneuvering on a couple of maps, but most often in areas and at times where being fired at wasn't happening.

They help me out immensely, maybe it's just cause I've been using jumpjets since closed beta. You can have it all if you get an XL engine.

Wow. I remember when it was the LRMboat, the Streakpult, and the Gausspult which were overpowered. My how times have changed and yet the crying doesn't stop.

The problems of the builds have been mentioned already so I'm not going to go into it again. If that AC/20 K2 is faster than you, then there is a serious problem already. If your teammates are not calling out the most dangerous target first, then there is another problem.

This is a team game for a reason. Jump on the freely available TS servers and group up with some people. You might just make some new friends in the process and learn some new tactics to boot...

Can I have my mech still operating when I lose a side torso?

The catapult has low profile side torsos so it's not a big deal, the ears and CT take damage first.

What's funny is that in my K2 I frequently find my ACs getting critted out before I lose the arms. I'd see the problem as worse in the SRMcat, as if I lose an arm I'm going to twist that side to the enemy to preserve what's left of my firepower. I'm just not sold on the XL, not on something this size.
