Considering that half of my merc corps is in EU and the other half is US the coming server spilt is about as close to mwo apocalypse for our unit as it can get.

PGI please don't do this to us. This is a horrible idea that can easily be remedied.

I imagine they won't force you, it'll just be an option like in most other online games.

Then we'll all play on the same NA server.

We should be able to transfer to any region, anytime, for free. splitting the playerbase like this & allowing duplicate names are imho both very bad ideas.

and this the ideal solution... by that i mean not transfer , but just klick "EU" if i want to play on EU, and klick "NA" when i wanna drop on NA... it can´t be that hard, there are tons of MMO shooters which can do that

Okay I got a question regarding multiple regions accts with the same name. How will they be able to post in the forums with the same name from 2 or more different people (depending on how many regions)?

Why can't we just have one global account, where we can choose what region we want to play for however long we want?

There are plenty of good reasons to play in a different region. For example, what if I have time to play at 4.00am Euro time, it will be hard to find Euro players but if I go the US servers they are 6 hours behind at least and I am playing during their prime time.

It's asinine, we've have all have to play on NA servers, which while annoying has led to some cool friendships forming in different geographic regions and then we get shafted...again...thanks I guess.

That's a good idea make the account global so you can keep your name, just give the option of transferring it to another server.

No one is going to be daft enough to actually take the transfer if it's one time only, and if it's involuntary, heads will roll.

US forums for US accounts by PGI
EU forums for EU accounts by Euro host

Not sure what everybody is surprised about.
If they open EU servers, of course this will split the community. I thought everybody wanted seperate Eu servers.
It was always obvious that this split would happen sooner or later. The sooner the better of course.

It will not be involuntary. And of course I will transfer to the Eu server the moment I am allowed to do it. Bye bye 200 ping.

The thing is, people wanted the ability to choose what gateway they wanted to connect with, with universal accounts.

No one wants dumb as hell separate databases, they wanted to be able to play wherever they wanted, and not offering this is daft as hell and a boneheaded move.

Kong has too many players from everywhere in the world, Europe, Asia, US, Australia, even India, to bother with regional servers that will be exclusive, for us the best option will be to just stick with the US and deal with our 220ms pings.

And as i have mentioned before... Several of the EU providers demand that they can use their own backbone and infrastructure (like Codemaster (if they are still around) and Pro7Sat) since it is cheaper for them. 99/100 that system is not compatible with any other system.

So it is just a matter of getting good service vs a minor annoyance. I'd pick good service any day.

In games like LoL, WoW, WoT, Diablo 3 etc the servers are seperated like that as well. Would be surprised if it would be any different in MWO.

And I am pretty sure what will be better for me, which is the EU server.

So as more regions are added, they plan on splitting the community up to ever smaller ones? Wouldn't that drain the numbers of players from an already small niche from posting?

What do all those games have in common that MWO will never, ever have?

A massive playerbase worldwide, they are mainstreasm [-ish, in the case of WoT, but a huge enough Euro and US playerbase for seperate servers], these are the monster giant online games, MWO is a niche title with a small playerbase that simply cannot support the split.

Imagine having the "Failed to find match" for 40 mins issues of the 8man qeue in the solo-queue, if you want an idea of what splitting this userbase will do.

That will depend completely on the agreements they make with the providers of that region.

So potentially.. Yes.

Whatever you want doesn't really matter, they've been pretty clear on what's happening and why is pretty simple.

In order to set up EU servers (and other such places) there are licensing concerns, and partnering with companies in those regions. You need a system that's profitable to all the partners.

You'll be able to transfer your account over to the other server if you want - either play locally with a good ping, or here with a crappy one, whatever you prefer. However - and this is generally how it works every MMO - those other companies hosting servers internationally are taking a portion of the profits from the game from their users. They maintain their own databases, and generally speaking are entirely separate entities, so they'll have their own forums and databases entirely. This would make "hopping" between the servers extremely headachy and expensive, as well as being a security nightmare. It's certainly possible, but it won't happen.

So - as has been said in the QA - there will be no forced splitting of the community. Players will have the choice, and I garauntee a majority will move though. Gameplay in MWO is pretty much bad when you've got a high ping.

PGI isn't being evil, here. Running international servers is a legal mess, as business laws vary dramatically from nation to nation. This is why even larger non-IT companies typically run separate entities in other countries. It's just much easier to work with a local company and essentially just license your product to them.

Uh, I do okay to above average with 220ms ping, thank you very much.

And I don't think Taiwan is going to be high on their local server priority, if ever, so yeah, sticking with the USA.

The problem really is with the whole Community Warfare feature PGI has promised, and the clan/merc corps structure framework of many groups in the community.

Most corps simply will not be able to handle segregation, and will choose not to do it.

i would love to play on a EU server, but i would first like to know
the numbers on said server are enough to keep the games rolling at all hours first,
i work nights so my play time is NA prime times

i'd just like to know if there is enough EU players playing stupid times for me to transfer first ;)
