As I stated before, all you need is some weapons discipline. Know when to single fire and when to double fire so you minimize jamming. The single fire recycle is only 1.1 seconds, so it's not that hard. Compare that to the AC/5's 1.7 second recycle with no double fire option. The UAC/5 is a fantastic weapon on the CN9-A and CN9-D.

I love the UAC5, either in a CN9 or in a Dragon. It is a deadly one, but sucks up ammo.

I run almost exclusively CN9s

CN9-A Videos
CN9-AL Videos
CN9-D Videos

Loadouts are linked in the video description.

PS. My general gameplay tip - Drive it like you stole it

I've found the centurion to be a spectacular chassis. My build is slow for a cent (read as 80KPH with a speed tweak) but the damage and the ability to survive is great.

STD 220

FF Armor
Endo-Steel
Artemis IV

10 Single heat sinks(minimum)

Ac/2 w/ 1 ton of ammo
3 SRM6's w/ artemis and 2 tons of ammo
2 medium lasers

Add armor to taste.
Love the chassis' ability to dive in and deal damage up close and blast away with the AC/2 at long range. I find that I use the srm's sparingly so the 4 tons previously suggested just went to waste. Get in blast once or twice and dip out is the name of the game here. Position is important. ~300dmg a game. Note: this is only pubbie rated

I've criticized my YLW for not having a missile hard point (still do), but I'm finding this build is working very well:

Endo
Ferro
AMS
2 ML
AC/20
Std 245 engine (87 kph w/ speed tweak)
322 armour (dropped legs to 40 each)
3 tons AC/20 ammo, 1 ton AMS ammo (all stored in legs)

Moves fast enough to not be insta-killed, packs a solid punch with the AC/20, has a bit of protection with AMS, can zombie with the 2 ML... it's proving to be a nice build. The key to it was finding a build that could mount the AC/20 and still achieve a decent speed.

I haven't experimented with adding modules to it yet. Without a missile hardpoint, the sensor modules seem pointless, although the capture accelerator could be good once I unlock it. If they come out with a decent counter to ECM, I'll have to find room for it, although I might have to go back to the standard 215 engine... trying to avoid an XL, as the Centurion already is pretty fragile. Part of playing this build successfully is to have the patience to trudge along slowly with the heavies until they're engaged, then speed up and harass their attackers. Lights are still a problem.

i have all the nice modules in my Wang...

360 target retention
sensor range
target info and
target decay

because those really do help the whole team
capture accellerator isnt worth the money ( m2cts )
but those above really rock !

i would never put an ams on the wang . it gives away ur position ! and sneaking up on an atlas or stalker is ur mainrole next to guard ur teams heavys

so no ams
better put the extra weight into a larger reactor. speed is life in a cn9 !

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...301e41e25d5bbfd

this build will let u stay long enough in the fight to really rack up kills
when u manage to survive the first 5 min and keep that ac/20 attached to ur torso ( :) ) ur gonna clean up the party.

nothing is better to finsh off dark red atalai and cucumbers..srry stalkers than an ac/20 round !

Ok, this may very well be a dumb idea, but are there any viable/suggested builds for using one of the Cent models as a sniper?

Has anyone found a way to pack more than 4T ammo in a Wang?

I still run my CN9-AL mostly stock, will probably swap for an ER Large since it runs cold even on Caustic. The trial -AL was good enough to get me to buy one (and make better).

That looks pretty good. My first mech was an AL during CB and I really enjoyed it. I am thinking of buying it again. How much damage do you usually put out?

Ive tried every variant other than the YLW. The AL was my first mech ever and I have a soft spot for it. I really enjoyed it during the closed beta and it remains one of my most favorite mechs. Its similar to that A in that it is a good heavy and assault support mech. I have an A and it is very good for giving assaults and heavys boosted firepower against targeted enemies. The one I don't like is the D. It is a pretty good light hunter but that is not really my style. I bought it because of the 2 ballistic harpoints but I soon found out that I could not really fit 2 ballistics in the arm because of the tonnage of the Cent. Ive been kicking myself ever since for wasting 8k c-bills (more than that actually considering the money used to try and deck it out) I could have used to buy the new treb coming out.

So far, the Wang is my favorite Centurion. CN9-AL is my 2nd favorite. I prefer lasers over non-AC/20 ballistics.

Depends heavily on the team. Like all mediums, the AL needs teammates to perform 100% (100-200 dmg at least). Mediums use speed to maximize their weapons.

It's hard to stop a Centurion from killing you, the weapons are spread out well. Shoot the arm, LRMs rain on you. Shoot the LRM pod, Arm weapons hit you. Both torsos gone, x2 CT M.Las. (3 Phract kill-streak, I won't sell my AL)

An entire match full of med-heavy mechs is rare, but really fun.

PPC AL sniper works great, you can run with 1 PPC (my preference) or 2 PPC if you don't want to pack missiles for short range combat at all.

Yeah it definitely has flexibility which is something I love and try and put in all of my mechs.

Very rare, but VERY fun. Had a match the other day with all Centurions and Hunchbacks. No lights, no heavys and no assaults. Most fun I have ever had in a match.

Oooh, I think I found a good CN9-D build:

XL300
AC/5 (2T)
2 MPL
2 SRM4 (2T)

The AC/5 is okayish at range, but the MPLs and SRM4s are crazy effective up close and in zombie mode. The MPLs are so much better than MLs. I gotta figure out how to put them in my Wang.

I actually use a ER PPC 2xML 1xSrm4 and a SRM6. It has a STD225 engine and it is capable of sniping quite well and then brawling a bit as well. It is one of my most effective builds I have gotten 5 kill matches several times with it.

Just have to say, the community is pretty awesome here. :)

Do you guys think 300 rounds of SRM ammo is enough for 3xSRM6? I just had a great match in my upgraded -A (put in a STD 260 engine) running with 3xSRM6&2xML where I did 630 damage - that's like twice what I've *ever* done before - but I did run out of ammunition.

As a main weapon, pack lots then reduce depending on how you play. I can get away with 2t SRM for x2 SRM-6, others need 3-4t.

This is what I've been tinkering with trying to get a good match of firepower, speed and durability. I've been running my -A fairly stock so far with ES and FF upgrades and adding on some SRMs and it's managed to come through quite a few matches looking like the Black Knight from the holy grail. I'm looking to optimize now. What do you guys think?
