Incorrect, Flame is another standout.

Pretty bitchy gets a bad wrap, but if you can manage multiple weapons systems its acutally a fantastic Atlas support mech.

I've spent the last couple days with a Brawler 'phact that a couple guys though I was crazy driving while they were dead(It has 4 separate weapon systems on it). Till they noticed that I was pulling 800 damage consistently with it. Pretty Baby is no different, its a style thing, you can't go chest bumping with Atlases, but its far from "crappy"

^^ any time you can put a 400 rating engine in a mech lighter than 100 tons, its a winner. That thing is zippy as a medium mech, packs the firepower of a heavy mech (with an engine that size) with heavier armor. Sure, it has one less hardpoint but that really isnt a big deal with the heat reduction on heavy lasers.

I do balk at the price of hero mechs (mainly because i dont care about the 30% bonus Cbills) but im not the customer those are aimed at so im fine with purchasing mech bays and a few camo paints here and there. I budget around $10-$15 a month for a MMO-class game whether they are F2P or not, either for a subscription, convienence stuff (mechbays) or auxilary things like lowerping (hello Aion).

"Pretty Ugly" 2x large pulse 3x SRM6, ferro, endo, and DHS with an XL400, lots of fun. It plays like a big 4SP.

Um... what's this "one time $15 month sub" you mention?

If you mean a $15 a month subscription... by definition a monthly subscription is not "one-time."

Just OCDing here.

The way swtor tried to convert it was that if you made a one time purchse of a month sub, then let it lapse, it allows you to be a "preffered" account (with up to 4 bars) even after the sub expired.

IF they removed the requirement that you must level 3 variants of a chassis to get elite tier...then F2P would be useful w/ 4 mech slots. Right now you just hit this 4 slot wall. If I could just buy a single chassis and get it to full exp then that would solve the problem without adding extra Mechbay slots to F2P players. If they do this, then they would want to rework the experience grinding time so that it's not super fast.

Then instead of being a penalty vs paid players it becomes more of a convenience thing. Which is what you should be paying for: convenience/cosmetics. Game is not pay to win or pay for power...but MAYBE worse: paying for ACCESS to power just seems sleezy.

Dude. i only have 7 Mech bays and at most 5 mechs. I spend $15 a week on MC. If I wanted Bays, I'd have em. Buy your own stuff just like I do. Cheapskate. :)

The loss of players who will not make even the smallest financial investment such as 300MC for a mechbay will in no way hinder the success of this game. I know there are many free loaders out there that only play F2P games and jump from game to game. But the thing people have a hard time to remember is that the development of this game is a business, not a charity. No game is created for goodwill toward the world. It's created to turn a profit. And right now all the money going into the game is just being used to further develop the game. They aren't close to making a profit. So if you enjoy the game, stop being so lame and invest a little to make it a better game.

Mech bays are the sole thing in this game that you need to pay for with mc, and they're also the sole thing in this game that's reasonably priced. Don't think that's a coincidence there, personally

I'm not a guru at all -- this is very common knowledge to any fan of F2P titles. But this is PGI's first F2P game, as they've been a fairly small dev house before this (and well, they still are small scale compared to the AAA guys), and they're still clearly not only beta testing the game itself, but their pricing models.

It's obvious to me that the way some people on this thread have lashed out and trash talked the free players as if they were some kind of horrible leeches means they have no idea how F2P games work, nor even a passing understanding of other F2P games PGI is competing with. Mechwarrior Online does not exist in a bubble. PGI is actively competing with other F2P titles, and not only other genres, but even another mecha title.

Yeah, but we don't even have population numbers, much less economic numbers. So its raw conjecture. Totally opinion.

View PostVechs, on 15 February 2013 - 12:30 AM, said:

As for your refund, I'm sure PGI would grant it to you, because they're really nice about that.

Although I seriously question if you would be willing to spend SIX HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE MILLION C-Bills on those 45 mechbays, as that would be a horrendously ludicrous amount of grinding. And even if you did, my guess is you'd do it with Premium time active, and hey guess what? That's MC purchased anyway.

675,000,000, hell no, in two thousand games with a 3:1 win rate and premium time I've made 157mil according to my profile, that is 8000 games.

View PostVechs, on 15 February 2013 - 12:30 AM, said:

But I think you would consider your time much more valuable than the small hit of your Founders MC it took for those 45 bays.

Small hit? People here are crying about 300MC ($1.20 for the $50 package) I have 13,500 just in mechbays. It gets worse if you see what I have spent paining all of those mechs, there are 8 out of 38 I can't restyle pretty much everyone that I drop in is painted up.

So no, my heart doesn't really bleed for those that won't spend $10.

I agree that there should be a way outside of MC to get more MechBays

$6.95 = 4 mech bays.

You are seriously complaining about $1.75 (rounded) per mechbay?

If you enjoy the game and wish to see it succeed, then support the free game you are given to play by actually buying something.

sure, if you want to grind out modules four times, rather than just needing to do it once on the same account and move them between mechs.

and why is it that i haven't gotten any modules for my 2 mechs? oh right, more expensive than an engine, with barely noticeable advantages, and why would i bother with advantages that i won't notice when my stalker plays just fine without them? My raven however, could use them, but since i use it to smash another light's face instead of scouting... so modules are useless with my style of play.

You have it totally wrong, most of us are complaining because $7 here in MWO gets you spots to put content in, while $5 in LoL, or $5 in TF2 give you actual content (actually $5 in TF2 gives you lots of permanent bonuses if you spent for the first time in the game)

300,000 GXP per mechbay.

There you go! (300 MC will look incredible next to that.)

Think of it this way, the 4 mech bays are a demo. A really good demo, that doesn't lie to you, and lets you play the game for a good month or two before deciding to shell out money. You can choose how much you are willing to risk on the game. Think you will only play a little bit more? Buy 4 mech bays for $7 (~1.75 each.) Think you are going to be around for a while longer, drop $15 to get 10 mech bays ($1.50 each.) Know you are in it for the long haul, drop $30 for 21 mech bays at $1.42 each (or get yourself a cheap color and 20 bays.)

The mech bays are reasonably priced and you should drop money on them if you enjoy the game. It tells PGI you like reasonably priced things and helps fund the game you enjoy. F2P isn't about giving you something for free. A properly done F2P game is about making a good game and showing it off to as many people as possible. You then ask for the fee later, because you are confident that after trying the game they will stick around. I have seen some people complain about payment options, and PGI should absolutely make it as easy to pay for as many people as possible. That is a no brainer.

The only thing I would personally change, is to add a care package that a player gets the first time they buy MC. Upon buying any amount of MC (for the first time only) they get a 1-2 mech slots, a color or two, a voucher for 1 free pattern, a few days of premium time, maybe even a free supporters mech (think founders mech with a smaller C-bill bonus.) It seems like a lot but it gives people that extra push to give you money for the first time and gives them a sample platter of things to spend it on.

First. I was sarcastic- second, do you know how the whole "F2P" system works?

Free to play for everyone.. some things must be bought in order to keep the servers up. This isn't being financed pro bono by a trillionaire..

This thread is a sad reflection of the maturity level of this community as a whole. Would rather address a strawman that think about the actual argument.

I came into this thread thinking, man, mechbays are cheap.

But in fact, yes, there is a point to making mechbays available for purchase with cbills, and it doesn't have to be a straight up MC to cbill conversion; it's better that it's not in fact.

More accomodating F2P features means more players (better player retention, more word of mouth), means more time spent on the game, means more money for the developers, means more features for us the paying customers.

It's not that convoluted; but it does require the ability to draw more than a single causal arrow in your mind. You might actually have to comprehend multiple factors influencing an end result.

That's all fine a dandy but servers cost money. More and more players that don't pay a dime does not help them. They have to spend more and more money for bandwidth and servers to support these people. Mech bay costs are reasonable.
