But 3 months is a long hiatus for any concept art. You'd think they'd end off at the nice even number of 20 but nope!

Human's like to look for patterns, but remember, they will continue releasing mechs as long as this game runs so there is no real good stopping place for them.

Plus who is to say that it isn't 1 IS Assault and 5 Clan mechs?

We are forgetting the NightStar a 95 ton Assualt availible in FedCom and Wolfs Dragoons during this timeline.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Nightstar

As noted previously, look at the dates in the Nightstar's Master Unit List entry, and then look at the TROs.

The original Nightstar variant (the NSR-9J) was developed in 2767, but it was lost to the Succession Wars (the sole factory was destroyed and the design/engineering team was killed) and the 'Mech wasn't reinvented until 3056.

The second Nightstar variant (the NSR-9FC) was developed by the Federated Commonwealth in 3057.
The NSR-9J (Brubaker) is a personal variant (of a character named Brubaker), and is more like a Hero 'Mech than a regular variant.

The third Nightstar variant (the NSR-9SS) was developed in 3065.

Each 'Mech in MWO needs to have three variants in order to be able to unlock the Elite efficiencies, and MWO's taking place at a specific point in the BattleTech timeline (with March 2013 = March 3050, with a 1:1 time progression) requires that those three variants be already existent at this point.

So, no - the Nightstar doesn't work for MWO at this point in time.

----------

With Bryan's "six design" comment, I'm thinking that what it refers to could be any of:

1.) BattleMech 20
2.) Hero 'Mech release #7
3.) Light Clan 'Mech
4.) Medium Clan 'Mech
5.) Heavy Clan 'Mech
6.) Assault Clan 'Mech

or

1.) BattleMech 20
2.) Hero 'Mech release #7
3.) Light Unseen/Reseen 'Mech
4.) Medium Unseen/Reseen 'Mech
5.) Heavy Unseen/Reseen 'Mech
6.) Assault Unseen/Reseen 'Mech

or

1.) BattleMech 20
2.) Hero 'Mech release #7
3.) IS (not Unseen/Reseen) BattleMech 21
4.) IS (not Unseen/Reseen) BattleMech 22
5.) IS (not Unseen/Reseen) BattleMech 23
6.) IS (not Unseen/Reseen) BattleMech 24

I would think his 6 would include chassis not hero mech variants.

I think it's more likely

1.) IS Battlemech #20 (Banshee/Zeus)
2.) Clan Mech #1 (Timber Wolf)
3.) Clan Mech #2 (Dire Wolf)
4.) Clan Mech #3 (Stormcrow)
5.) Clan Mech #4 (Kit Fox)
6.) IS Battlemech #21 (Firestarter)

Interesting... but you are assuming they will start with the top weight chassis of each class... I know the Timber Wolf and the Dire Wolf are the most terrifying/iconic Clan mechs in 3050 but wouldn't be better to start with smaller mechs and save the best for last? (why would anyone want a Mad Dog if they have a Timber Wolf? and this question is not for MW4 players)

Also, I think they will resume the IS mechs only after all the 16 Omni Clan mechs.

PS: I secretly wished the mechs #21, #22, #23 and #24 were Reseens, but with all this delay to show the #20, I think they will end up being Clanners, as the consensus.

I don't think they consider Hero 'mechs to be upcoming design releases, more a companion to new concept art. I remember somewhere they said they had the first 36 battlemechs picked out (read, list made ready...not concept art,) so that they didn't have any lack of ideas. I don't think the Clans factor into that, but I could be wrong (20 IS + 16 Clan = 36 'mechs). They still have to release IS 'mechs down the road as this is an ever expanding F2P games, so you'll start seeing IS 'mechs get announcements amidst Clan announcements once a big flurry of Clan concept art comes down the pipe.

I think the next big six are:

1. IS Assault
2. Clan Light
3. Clan Medium
4. Clan Heavy
5. Clan Assault
6. Clan Light

We could get lucky and get some unseen/reseen (as we've seen some unseen redesigns by the likes of Shimmering Sword/etc hitting the newer official products,) and that would be HUGE! Releasing those designs would be akin to SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

Either way, I'm still content to wait it out.

no matter how soon, "soon" will be but:

"soon" will better be "soon!"

ZEUS is getting rusty there on Hesperus II.... and waiting for doing some wreckage!

The Kerensky Orion is a must have. Even if they use something different than the actual stated "Kerensky Orion" because as far as I'm concerned, that is a retcon and doesn't matter too much.

Definitely the way they should go on it. I was talking about this earlier, in fact!

From Ask the Devs 44:
Q:

here are a number of weapons that fit into the timeline but are not in game, including binary lasers, mech mortars, Arrow IV missiles, etc.

A:

Quote

Yes, generally when we add a BattleMech that carries the aforementioned equipment.

Now guess who uses Binary Laser Canons....

Yep, this baby does!

Isn't the Zeus ZEU-6Y (the one with Binary Laser) a mech of the Jihad era?

It looks good, though:

So it's Conspiracy Theory time!

Forget Mech Announcement 20. We haven't had an announcement since December 19!

Exhibit A:

Quote

Butane9000: Why has no new mechs/content been announced since December?

A: Plenty of content has been announced since then. We are holding back `Mech announcements to create space for some upcoming <redacted>.

Exhibit B: With the current one mech per month schedule the Orion will come out in July. Leaving us at August.

Exhibit C: Wave 4 of the Clan Invasion start July/August. This is the first time that the Inner Sphere reacts to the invasion. Prior to this, it was all reactionary.

Exhibit D: April will be the fourth month since Announcement #19 (Not looking like we're getting one this month either).

April will the the month where we'll get an at least 4 Clan Mech Announcement!

Sadly, while I'm excited for these, I still would love to see a steady stream of IS Mechs, like the Banshee, Dervish, Zeus, Wolfhound and of course (Un)Reseen!

I thought it interesting that once again the reaction to unseen was...

no comment.

The only issue I have with it is I feel the Highlander is a bit too tall. The concept art always made it look stumpier then it appears in the video. It seems on similar height with the Atlas.

Well, you can clearly see it's still Work in progress. That most likely changes a few things.

It also looks like Rhonda Snord's Highlander. (Pause the video, it even has speakers on it's head.)
