Look at this brilliant piece of navigation system.
This is a minimap device.

This map allow you to know:
- that enemy mech is little bit left from you, and you just need to turn your torso slightly to target it
- where your mates are, who of them from your lance and which direction they all are moving
- in which direction legs of my mech are pointed
- which squares around me, and I could say to my mates in our TS in which direction we should go
- how much I see on the map - for example I know that enemy mech should be on my screen but terrain block my vision - and I see what exactly is blocking my vision!

Just try to think, PGI, - how much time we spend looking at this map?
LESS THAN SECOND to get all information around me on the battlefield.

Ok now look at this failmap.

At this moment I was clearly seen enemy mechs in front of me. So, why this map is saying that enemy mechs are on the right side from me?
You don't understand, right? Sorry, it is probably my awful English. But remember what I said before - you're look at this map less than one second! You has no time to stare at it - map is not a beautifull girl - and you on the damn battlefield!
What the hell is happening around me?
I don't care what is happening on the other side of the map!
I need to know what the hell is happening in maximum of 1km distance from me!
If I need to know what is happening on the other side of the map, I'll open full battlegrid and get this information.

In which direction my mates moving?
In which direction legs of my mech are pointing?
How much map space is seen in my screen?
How many enemy mechs here? Oh yeah... A LOT!!!! LOOOOL WEEEEEEEE RUUUUN FOREST RUUUUUUN!!!!!! ESCAPE!!! PRESS ALT+F4 TO EJECT!!!

Facedesk, even my English is better than this new minimap!


Perfect summary - pre patch the mini map was one of the most important things in the game - now its compeltely useless.

Why was it changed to amke it useless.

No rotation - my sat nav does that FFS.

Well except for one player ( only read the last few posts) it seams the new mini map sucks. It's harder to now where you're pointed which means are you going towards or away from the enemy or your team. With this mini map change I will not spend anymore money on this game and I spend a lot.

Soo, yeah there's problems with the minimap. I'll try to focus on the issues that haven't been mentioned to death yet:

1. Grid coordinates are not on the actual squares anymore. It's surprisingly hard to tell what the coordinate of a square is when you're in combat. In the old system the coordinates are on the squares themselves, so it was a lot easier.

2. Non-rotating map makes it difficult to tell left from right. Again surprised that I was finding this too hard. Half the time I can't tell whether the radar contacts were to the left or right of where I'm looking.

3. Mech symbols not very intuitive. I know that diamonds with crossed bars are assaults, and empty diamonds are lights, but keep getting confused about the heavy and medium symbols. Maybe a simple progression is better (no bar for lights, 1 bar for mediums, 2 bars for heavies, 3 bars for assaults).

I'm ok with not having enemy or friendly mech direction indicators, I can get used to that.

I have to come and pile on. This new mini map is awful! Bring back the old one. Quit fixing things THAT ARE NOT BROKEN!

I may be unbiased, but when I said back then if you want change get noticed.... It did happen, and it did work. I hope you'll all understand that unity is the key factor to real change in any game, not broken into two, three, or even four sides. Remember, alone, you are weak and unheard, together, you are strong and heard, within reason. This was one reason to make a fuss. I hope you all understand I don't do this out of spite to merge threads, I do it for the forums.

With the implementation of the new mini-map, I find it breaks up the normal go right nascar into smaller skirmishes. Instead of the pinpoint reveal where everyone is, it's now use your eyes and utilize flanking maneuvers.

I'll be sad if they go back to the old mini-map that shows too much and pings when something new pops up, I feel as though we should be using "our" senses/situational awareness not become reliant pings and arrows on a map in my opinion.

Sometimes less is more and 1 vs 1 combat with some team brawl with the odd surprise can be extremely fun and feels like how mech warrior should be in my opinion Posted Image

To all the people saying its good and etc etc, whatever but the game we have all played for the last however many years had the old mini map. What we got now is suddenly a different game, maybe people enjoyed it the way it was.

Question is, how long it'll take for the hotfix to be implemented. A month? A week? I have premium time activated off my KDK mechpack, can PGI pause it? I get sick from the new map due to disorientation.

Having played a few, and mind you, only a few games with the new map it... actually isn't that bad.

This new minimap is turrible. And russ should feel bad for being bad. Can't accurately gauge or friendly movements with it.

The smart move: roll back, fix, then implement. That would make them look best. But will not happen.

been mentioned already but saw in mr mechwarriors tweets the mini map will be reverted back to the old in an update

Wow. Some of you sound like babies that are getting angry over not being able to suckle your mom's teat. Yeah, the new minimap doesn't give us everything on a silver platter. Develop your own situational awareness.

The new minimap is ****** and it's getting hotfixed to be slightly less ******. It still isn't going to be your eyes and ears like before. Figure it out and give it a while before condemning it.

At least give us the option to change the zoom of the minimap on the fly. Having it zoomed so far out is great for strategic planning purposes, but ruins up-to-the-second tactical awareness.

And yeah, the loss of rotation sync and a sight/firing arc were just dumb.

Cause somebody thought the game was too "arcade" and the answer was to remove our mechs sensors?
