I think my insane brethren in Wang nation would not hesitate to drive one. But then we also aren't exactly the poster children for well adjusted.

Well at least the Wang can move. I pilot the Wang occasionally and I would never pilot the urbie. Pretty much every mech implemented so far is so much better than the urbie. In order for the urbie to become viable you would have to change it to the point where people would hate it because it is unrecognizable.

Just stop trying to make the urbie happen with only sketches and saying that PGI will sort out balancing of it, why not propose a way to balance it yourself that would make people, like me, that are saying '**** the urbie' convinced that it could be put in the game.

X-5 is proof they can make a totally new varient if they want to. So the engine size doesn't matter.

The urbie we get might have 100 engine.

Cannon is Urbie exists. In some games urbie is like the grunt foot soldier mech, very common.

Everyone who cries about this being a simulator but doesn't want urbanmech makes no sense. Its like if in a pacific WWII flight sim they dont want wildcat, but the truth is it was wildcats vs zeros.

If you don't know how to fly a WILDCAT your going to say its a horrible plane.

URBANMECH is the WWII WILDCAT. Without URBANMECH, you are missing out on mechwarrior.

The wildcat was slow.....tubby......but can punch. And if anyone pilots this thing without knowing how they would swear up and down it is the most horrible plane. Especially if your fighting against its rival the japanese ZERO.

Same goes for URBANMECH.

Heres a vid I found on you tube, this is a raven ac/20 urbie.

@Hugostiglitz,

Literacy is not your strong suit, I assume? Since I posted what......9 ways to make it viable in the OP?

Yea, this seems like a gigantic waste of pgi resources. These urbanmech things wouldn't bring anything new or exciting and serve no purpose. They would die quicker than a testing ground commando and move slower to boot.

Let's not get started on what's a waste of PGI resources
Also you're wrong anyway.

Yes, because a design that literally hundreds of players over dozens of posts since CB have positively stated they would by for IRL money would be a huge waste of time for PGI

Urbie would simply need to cheat the engine restriction rules to be viable. Nothing is bad about its hardpoint layout or anything, tons of variants. Being able to put a decent engine on it is a must however.

Yup. We dont have anything under a 100 engine and that one weights 7 tonnes with heatsinks - Try outfitting a spider and you get CLOSE but forget heatsinks or jumpjets on that build and you still move at 51 km/h.

Outfit a spider with AC/10 1 ML and a 100 engine and 2 tonnes of ammo. At 51 km/h it WORKS but have less options than the Urbanmech due to engine weight as we must have more heatsinks.

300+ damage on frozen city, 2 kills, 4 assists and dueled 2 atlas, yes, died against the atlas but that was because I couldnt torso twist fast and far enough.

Why not? Ain't like the list would be short, and that's assuming we limit it to things they've already implemented... :D

A hero urbie would be the only hero mech I would buy. Especially if it had functioning toggle able police lights!

You are cheating - No endo steel or ferro fibrous armour is allowed, a standard mech design only.

Urbie is one of those mechs that sticks around base and defends. I can see it with something like a 360 torso twist, high twist speed, or other quirky perks(perky quirks?) that could make up for its speed.

edit

Or stays back and shoots from a distance while still being close to base or something.

I heard in another thread the devs already made him:

Maybe if a dev reads this they can give us the story.

Not sure about the Devs having made the Urbie, BUT I've been working on a model based off Ironhawk's concept art sketches:

http://mwomercs.com/...75#entry1595475

Still far from finished, but it's getting closer... and, if Ironhawk is happy with it once it's done, and he agrees to it, I'd happily give it over to the devs to whack in-game (Devs? you hear that? :D )

Whoa! Looks like Urbie lost some weight. He went from pudgy and silly to athletic and badass. I think your concept may fit a bit more with the MWO look, but I feel like Urbie's diminutive, rotund look is part of his charm. Maybe make the torso a bit more round.

On the subject of viability...well, as most have noted it would be pretty hard to compete if Urbie's stats and hardpoints were exactly like the TT version. Upgrading the engine to make him faster would be one option, but if he's going too fast, you're dealing with a totally different mech. Maybe as an alternative (and to set him apart from the other lights) he could get more armor points to increase durability? I figure you'd have quite a bit of extra tonnage with only a couple of hardpoints and a small engine, might as well make it up in armor.

I'd love to see Urbie in the game, if because of the high potential for humor and epic trolling. Getting steamrolled by the most absurd mech in battletech would lead to some very entertaining taunts. :D
