Merc Corps will bid for contracts posted by Houses, since mercenaries always get paid more than regular army. Payback comes with those perks, a "subscribed" Merc Corps. gets a small additional XP/C Bill bonus for members participating in the battle. They will never know if they are fighting another Merc Corps or a House group.

Think of the "subscription" as Union dues, get a lot for a little extra money a month.

my issue isn't the extra xp/cb for premium that's fine, the problem is if they don't limit the group size of drops there not going to be very successful at getting ppl to pay 10 bucks a month to drop with there own merc corps instead of paying nothing to do the same thing.
If they do CW is going to be a pub stomp.
If they split the groups of f2p and prem there will be 10 min waits for games
The implementation of paying to be in a merc corp is bad just like 3rd person and coolant flush there not horrible ideas but there execution is fundamentally flawed.

hey hey hey, look for a silver lining... if things do, indeed, go the way suggested... then all the Mercs without Corps can just go to FRR and kick those Clanners in the teeth!

I hear Tor Miraborg will wheel himself to the landing pad to give each and every merc a big warm hug. :)

This is totally insane.

Like bat-**** insanity.

Some of the corps are hundreds and hundreds of players. You expect them all to pay for premium?

Free to play can thrive by having free players playing with their friends - some of whom pay, and by playing with their friends they play the game more and get more enjoyment out of it. Put barriers to the fun and content for free players, and they will leave, and the paying players will leave after because the free players were a large part of the reason to continue playing.

I don't think IGP/PGI understand how the F2P model is supposed to thrive.

It'll be interesting to see if the forum outrage this time sways their thoughts when the forum rage over 3rd person didnt given that we're all that "loud minority" and all

I heard back initially from Support, they said this topic will be discussed and they will coordinate a commentary/feedback plan, but it's a long weekend and don't have the full crew assembled. So, this thread will be referenced for now as the Go-To thread for this issue until there's an Official one of some sort.

Oh, don't worry, the only reason disposed ex-Mercs would go there is because they aren't Mercs anymore... so hush hush.

theyve changed their minds about not letting us fight on storyline worlds? Cause all of the FRR's ARE storyline but like 8 given we cant have players changing the invasion.

PGI is not allowed to change the history or the timeline of the BT Universe. But the timeline can effect what we are fighting against..

Also - are we going with "Premiumgate" as the title of the latest PGI scandal?

It's either that or BryanEkmangate as a catch-all for all upcoming articles.

You all are getting your panties in a bunch.

What they described already works as it does now. Pay Premium time to get Premium bonuses. The only difference is there is an incentive to do more with those bonuses to get more bonuses.

That isn't pay to win, its pay to play. There is still a free game, meaning you click launch and shoot things. The competitive players will actually have to buy into the game to compete. Every other MMO is like this.

Everquest 2 for example does something worse. F2P characters cannot used Legendary or Fabled Gear. You CANNOT survive in level 90+ dungeons without such gear. Meaning no groups, no raiding unless you become a gold member. That would be akin to MWO requiring you to be premium members to use the mechlab, or use Trial Mechs only.

Simply said, there is a free portion of the game (Faction warfare and Lone Wolves), and pay to play Merc Corps. You probably won't even play against most paying players as a free player so there's no big deal here.

I disagree. Currently you can optionally add premium to get more. What they propose is to REQUIRE premium to even play CW. Dumb.

If they want to cut down on one-man merc corps, they can just charge a steep set-up fee which presumably one man wouldn't be willing to pay -- say $500 worth of mc or greater -- which would act like one of those little quota type bars they have if you have ever participated in a charity event. Then each intended member of the corps could fill the quota as much as they could afford which might amount to 0 mc for some, but might be a larger amount for others. This way you could retain the composition of your friends in real life which typically have varying economic states. Those with more could subsidize the cost for those that have less. Requiring premium time is completely unrelated to the issue of preventing one-man merc corps. They are just looking for a constant dependable revenue stream, which seems to be what all their wrangling has been about lately.

Yeah... this sounds like a bad idea.... I have a hard time seeing this going live.

My guess is this will get reworked in to something a bit more sane.

I don't really view it as separate, isolated incidents anymore. It's more like "operation sell out the founders" at this point.

At least PGI has a history of redoing pay schemes that the forum community has told them is ********. Granted, it's kinda bad that we even have to smack them around in the first place but at least it gets results.

let's try to stay on Topic... the Founder's Program has no relationship to being in a House or Merc Corp.

The media article said playing as a Steiner or Davion would still be free, as would being a Lone Wolf. So you can be in CW for free, according to the article, just not a Merc... a MW:O Merc... :)

odd given if you listen to the PGI defense force we're 1% of the players in the game and should be summarily ignored like theyre doing with 3rd person

I'm sure by now they know that most merc corp (as they exist now) field 4 man teams fairly easily. So if they make 3 sets of 4 man groups then filling them that way.

Lets say I have 7 guys split into two teams, The contract won lists that I include me and 6 other players, so now that contract has to fill 5 more slots, one has to be a lone wolf player. Otherwise, the server has freedom to fill the remaining slots with another 4 man group that won a bidding contract or however else it needs to fill those slots.

It kinda is, by implying I have to pay again for features that where said to be included at the time bought founders with no mention of me having to shell out cash to play in a merc corps.
Or at least that's how it was interpreted at that time.

Seriously, PGI. Your playerbase is a battered housewife, and here you are, belt in hand, ready to go another round.

If you aren't careful, she is going to leave you for someone better.
