I think the rage is because many, many people thought that PGI's Artemis Project was something game-related to be revealed at E3 and was to be accessible to everyone in the MW:O community, such as a Mech, or some kind of gameplay features.

A custom, fancy controller is not accessible to the entire community, so some people feel disappointed. I am somewhat disappointed that I can't personally gain anything from the Artemis Project, but it's a good sign of MW:Online's market viability - and that's a sign that MW:O will be a good game to play for a long time.

Let me clarify myself;

I am HAPPY that PGI made a MWO Joystick. Looks pretty cool and all. I was looking forward to actually buy one, right up to I decided to get my X52 Pro like 2 weeks ago.

I find BAD how Marketting was handled with the Artemis Controller. It should have been announced BEFORE Beta keys started to be handed over. I bought my X52 Pro to be ready for Beta, since PGI didnt seem to have anything planned Controller wise.
  • Secrecy/Conspiracy about in-game stuff = cool
  • Secrecy/Conspiracy about a game peripheral = /fail from Marketting
Just my 2 M-Bills

Out of curiosity...are you MWO folks working on any joystick/control type products with third parties? I don't want to have to buy an old Steel Batallion controller...but something MW branded in a similar fashion would be killer

Yes

Its not nerd-rage. Its just a let down to all the Mouse + Keyboard players (who are probably the majority). Its "Hey look, here is something we teased you about that you will NEVER EVER USE! Hurray!"

If the center screen is sold separately I'd probably pick just that part up.... so long as I can fit it on my desk next to my real keyboard.

Im not realy sure what your trying to say but 1st its an X52 Pro, its listed at around 160$. I got it for 80$ so I am far from disapointed...
AND its gonna be perfect for my MWO gaming needs.

I might have considered getting the Artemis Controller INSTEAD of my X52 Pro if it had been mentioned the project was on the drawing board BEFORE Beta started, thats what I was saying.

Actually the devs did say waaaay back they were working on 'something' for us control hounds way back. But that was it. I agree they should have fed us a bit more scraps to keep us interested.

Honestly, if it was the screen and a left-handed stick, and the game supported an active-position throttle (throttle is 1:1 stick position, so tilting forward 80% = 80% forward throttle), I'd probably buy it, because left hand stick + right hand mouse = best setup for mechwarrior.

Also the fact that it appears to be locked as a single unit might be problematic for some people in terms of comfort.

I think you're right. It seems to me that a lot of people are really craving any and every scrap of information they can get their hands on about this game. There's little wonder why so many whipped themselves into a frenzy about the possibility of getting that information - even if it wasn't a realistic probability.

Not to rain on your parade, but an X52 is the Honda Civic of HOTAS controllers - cheap as chips and that's about it. It's literally the bottom end of HOTAS controllers. This setup is going to cost upwards of $300 just because of the screen, so the $60 or whatever you dropped on the X52 is nothing.

I have to respectfully disagree.

This, IMHO, is the Honda Civic of HOTAS controllers, and costs about $50USD:

My X52 cost me $140USD about three years ago, and came with a lot of features the above controller did not. I would say the X52 is more like a BMW M3. There are things out there that cost 3-4 times as much, but you're getting great features and performance for your buck.

Well if you look at the moronic things people thought the Artemis images were going to be in the speculation threads, it's no wonder some were disappointed.

Looks super rad. I'm stoked for the Steel Battalion fans out there. Now, if they had an option to drop the LCD and dock it with a tablet, then it could also open up more tablet gaming and conceivably be worth the >$150 price tag it will have. Believe me guys, I have a razer mouse, mousepad, keyboard, and headset. If this thing has the stuff they say it'll have it'll be $250 or more.

No, no it ******* didn't. If you're the kind of person who said "PGI overhyped this! They should've known," no, they didn't. This wasn't anywhere near 'overhype.' PGI mentioned it once on their main page and left a passive page that updated every day. They weren't shoving it down your throats, you were swallowing it whole and now you're disappointed because this "won't affect you."

There's no legitimate reason anyone should be less interested in MW:O because this controller is announced. If you're currently raging at PGI over this, I shudder to think what 'horrible flaws' and 'terrible mistakes' you'd find once the game drops. There's no two ways around it, you ARE that kind of person, and the game doesn't need you.

While it does suck that it's only a concept controller, PGI is reaching out to a portion of their fanbase without hurting others, and collaborating with a well-known company in the process. Good on them.

If you really want to rage about a game company, go play EA games.

So very well said! Haters gonna hate.

"All we get is this?" are you people mad?

This. Is. Huge.

How many other games get specific controllers designed for them, beyond taking a standard controller, painting it with camo colours and splashing CoD logos or whatever?

So you don't want one. Fine. No one says you need one. you claim it's over hyped? not really, you/we over-hyped that all on our own. PGI largely left us too it. you don't like it? fine. you think it's too expensive? whilst I have no doubt it'll cost a few bucks, lets wait 'till we get a price point before we start ******** about how it's too expensive, shall we?

honestly. why can't the people, like me, who want a controller, who think that physical interaction with a simulator is important, get something? I cannot believe for one second that PGI thought that everyone, even the majority, would want one. So lets let people who want and are excited by this some time to enjoy themselves.

I think the point is yes, we mad. You say we overhyped this? Partially, but a big count down with a pixellated picture the looks like it might be a new battlemech is in fact hype. Also before you complain to us about us complaining about the price, do some research. Razer has always been expensive as hell.

You can want tactile interaction with the game? Buy a much less expensive joystick. Don't be surprised when the majority is rather disappointed when the devs are cater to the minority.
