And you still feel the HGN-733P and 732 is superior to the 733C in competitive drops? I can't watch your stream for a number of reasons, but I'm really curious as to your reasoning there.

The 732 and 733 are very similar for ppc sniping.. if you prefer running 2 ppc and a gauss then it's your choice of chassis. If you prefer 3 ppc and gauss then the 732 is better. The 733C is the only highlander that allows you to run an AC20... it's a devastating weapon... the 733P is really only ideal if you want to run 2 salvos of 2 ppcs and jumpjet.. like a stalker with jumpjets in a way.. the heavy metal has the ppcs on the other arm which is disadvantageous because you can't use one arm as a shield...

But overall I would place the highlanders in this order: 732 - 733 - 733C - Heavy Metal - 733P

I agree with this largely entirely, but I was asking because your post above says the OP has been updated, but still shows the 733P as the best of the lot - and that's a pretty long stretch these days. Quad-PPC builds still work, but not nearly like they used to.

Oh thank you for referring the competitive tier list - I got so used to people referring to the solo queue list that I didn't look closely - it's updated! (I updated the solo queue list) <3 <3

I'm planning a big update and cleaning up the details for the next patch / launch. I rushed out the previous tier list several days after returning from my trip. I have also now had a chance to play a good 10+ hours and get a feel of the game again. More stuff to come! :)

Advanced Zoom - wow, way to go PGI! This zoom is such an amazing improvement over the over zoom. It's exactly like I expected the advanced zoom to work and look like. Nice job!

Now, I don't know if it will be useful.... but I will be considering it *finally* on my module ranking!

Wow. What a difference!

When is your next list update? I enjoy watching these on Saturday mornings with my coffee. I don't follow them to the tee, but they do influence my purchases. I also don't see the CN9-D on the list. I know the newly released mechs aren't on their b/c of evaluation purposes though.

Thanks Captain - I'm glad to hear it's enjoyable. I also welcome any suggestions you have to make it better - especially with coffee. Man, I love my coffee - I should have a Nespresso sponsorship!

My plan was to have the list up and ready and recorded for the Launch Date of the 17th. I am not working this Sunday so depending on my +1 situation, I would like to have it recorded Sunday or Monday.

I'm still working on the revision and coming up with a list of discussion topics; these include:

- a full revision and re-look at all the mechs!
- a full revision and discussion of modules
- classification and roles of mechs
- modules for specific roles
- latest news and developments

I had a few recent nights of drops with friends, especially Kaffeangst, VictoriaSeymore, Adiuvo, Trev, and a few friends -- I've been learning a lot from Kaffe... I will clean up the videos and highlight some parts which are instructional.

Thank again. :) <3

PS: 2-3 UAC5s are OP at the moment.. grab your favourite highlander / victor / jager / ilya and farm away while the cbills are hot. My suggestion is a Victor or Highlander with 2 UAC5s 5-7 tons of ammo, 1-2 JJ, 2 ERLL, a Standard engine, max armor (can strip an empty arm on the highlander) and lots of double heat sinks. Tag everything with the ERLL and when a mech is out of position, hammer away with the UAC5s and ERLL.. .when heat gets too high, just use the UAC5s.. .when the UAC5s jam use the ERLL (especially in chain fire) to keep the pressure up.

FYI, I know you list all the stalkers in Teir 1, but the Stalker 4N is clearly inferior to every other stalker at the moment (lack of hardpoints, twisting, missile tubes, and extra AMS), and as a result should really be down a tier (or there should be a note about it).

I just completed my 25 cadet matches and have 14 million saved for my first mech. I want something with really good, leg cauterizing burst potential, at least 79+ kph and the armor to withstand some return volleys.

I solo-pug and really, really need advice before I blow my hard earned wages. I need advice from the experts for my described playstyle.

Thanks in advance, hope I came to the right place! :D

I will watch all the Twitch vids later this evening, thanks for those as well.

Victors will fill what you're looking for nicely. The 9S currently is crazy good with 2 UAC5s and 2 LLs and an XL350+.

The Orions might be nice as well once the versions come out in 2 days.

Otherwise you're going to need to compromise between damage, durrability, and speed. Cataphrats can mount some nice damage, but they're sluggish. Catapults can be squishy, but can go pretty fast and pack a punch.

Quickdraws and Dragons might also fit the bill. Quickdraws are energy and missile only, which can run hot, and they're huge. Dragons have a huge CT, but can mount balistics and can be viable in the hands of a skilled pilot.

Still, I think Victors might be a good mech to look for.

How's this Victor look? I barely have enough to kit this one out.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...90f4795d42ceafe

or this one, since SRM's are buggy?

I'm also liking this shotgun 3D build too. Thoughts?

In your first Victor, you're running an XL engine with weapons that are primarily short-medium aka "brawling" range. That's a huge disadvantage once your torsos are stripped of armor!

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6930944745237ac

In this build, you have a lot more survivability at the cost of ammunition and a slight speed decrease. Now you can brawl and loose a side without skipping a beat. 3SRM4s only need 2 tons of ammo. You might need 3 tons of ammo for 3SRM6s, but in many matches you won't get to use all the ammunition and you risk ammunition explosions carrying excessive ammunition. Do you need AMS? For pugging perhaps, or just use a lot of cover and play really smart on Tour / Alpine.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...694645fb6c06f24

If you want to really avoid buggy srms, why not try the dual UACS5s with er lasers? UAC5s are rather op at the moment. Tag everything with your lasers, when you get a bead on someone open with your UAC5s -- when they jam, use your lasers. When your UAC5s unjam and / or heat is an issue switch to your er lasers.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...91a6f0077bdc8f7

Your 2LBX10 CTF-3D will be a monster in-close with same limitations of the XL engine as discussed above. People use an XL engine generally in mechs that need the speed to stay at range. Nonetheless, this would be very fun and deadly.

In all the posted builds, if you can run without AMS, you'll save 1.5 tons and 2 crit slots which can be used for more ammunition and / or heatsinks and / or jumpjets, etc.

:)

GL!

Thanks Mav! :)

I dropped the AMS for this version:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b39cff536b3540a

I can't figure a non-XL build like this that won't crawl across the battlefield. People tell me 'Phract side torsos are relatively safe in an XL......hmmmmm. Still pondering.

Perhaps this one?

Brutal and Efficient Victor 9S

It works best as a flanker, but you can brawl with it for a while if you move around and twist a bit. The AC20 can be effective at ranges up to about 400m, it just won't do the full 20.

I think you're on the right path with a Victor or a Highlander. The Cat-3d is always good too! ^_^

Nothing is safe from a Spider-5d with a bad attitude ;)

If you want to use the Ctf-3d + xl engien try the dual uac5 initally with an xl engine and a couple of ER lasers. :) keep the range to medium to long!

Trying to make that standard engine Victor brawler for under 14mil. cbills.

Does this one look too slow or under gunned to you?

Why not use the stock engine?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d2c6f7c2bfb8a37

If you want a brawler, I like this version:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...65764ac30b545cb

It's similar to what I used in a game vs DV8 way way back in LMS (but in a highlander)... don't like the ac20? throw in a gauss.. or 2 uac5s..

I'd stick with the stock engine if you don't need the extra HS space a 330 gives you, and actually put some extra HS in there. That's 2 HS vs 2-3 KPH, I'll take the 2 HS (and I run a victor for speed). Might even suggest regular LLs for better heat management.

Hrm, you've got FF on that, that's why. Still, the stock 320, 1 extra HS in the engine, and an extra ton of ammo I think serves you better. I'd avoid FF though, as it becomes expensive to refit later.

Adding other thread's post for easy reference:

Quote

One has to be careful to define a mech into roles outside of their usual classification of light, medium, heavy and assault. It can be confusing for new players to think of their mech as brawler, sniper, support, scout initially.

The key thing firstly is to remember:

- lights are lightly-armored and then are primarily a scout and support the heavier classes above them
- mediums are medium-armored andsupport the heavier classes above them
- heavies are heavily-armored and support the assaults
- assaults are the most-armored and need to lead the team fights and support the mechs below them

How a mech supports the other mechs on its team may be by brawling, sniping or long-range support, but you should never forget to support your team as per the rules above.

Nothing is worse than an assault that decides to be an LRM boat and won't lead the charge by taking a few hits that would do *nothing* to it, but would outright kill or cripple a light / medium.

MWO is a thinking-man's game so THINK!
