As a solo ..no Assault does not work .. teamed up on a good team it's practically invincible !
but say" if the game balance works well" then people should not HATE ANY part of the game.

bad balance = hating assault mex

That's right, folks, anyone who pilots something more than 70 tons is a sissy.

Actually, if game balance works well, I'm hoping people will hate Assault 'Mechs because they'll get shot in the weak rear armor too easily.

Bah, you all and your Assault hate. While I like my big-gun-with-legs Mediums and Lights, I'm gonna thoroughly enjoy outgunning everyone who faces me head-to-head with my Assault. Teammates are there to stop you all from getting your edge-case advantages on me. :)

I think I'll be primarily playing Heavy and Assault. Assault for the feeling of ultimate power, Heavy for the majority of the legendary designs and for swatting absolutely everything lighter than me - and being fast enough to get many chances at doing so.

Hi, first post. :)

I usually never pilot anything lighter than a heavy but my favourite medium 'mech has to be the Shadow Cat. Gauss Rifle <3

Depends on the game balance for me. If a light or medium cant be hit easy by a heavy or assault then light or medium I will be in. Evasion rules, big guns drool. If a heavy or assault can one shot a light or med then guess what players will be in. What I enjoy piloting more wont matter if I cant be effective in it. There will have to be some kind of balance between the sizes to make it truly fair for all players.

I would love nothing more than to pilot a Bushy or Jagermech. Only problem is, my two favorite 'mechs are the Highlander and Mauler.

Maybe there will be the possibilty of slapping JJ's (For DFA purposes, strictly) on my Mauler and get some missiles on my jagermech. Yeah I think that'd solve my problems. At least then I'd be down to using two 'mechs, only.

I've been a Mechwarrior for a long time in the PC game world (actually bought an original copy of Battletech a year ago to see what the first gen stuff looked like), and in most cases I pilot the Catapult, loaded with LRMs, SRMs, and medium pulse lasers. I hit the big baddies from a distance to soften them up, then when they get closer I finish them off with SRMs and lasers.

But it's been a long, LONG time since I signed on to MSN to play against a live opponent, so I might be a bit rusty. But the ol' Cat is my first choice. Second may be the Timber Wolf, but I just can't beat the combination of speed and firepower on the Catapult.

My 2 favorites are the good ol' Wolverine with MASC and the Mad Dog AKA Vulture. Although i do love to run around in a Battlemaster.

I would like Mostly Mediums and Heavies. In the original board game Assaults were very rare, yet with the games thats all you seemed to have the latter half of the game.

Most likely a medium. Unless the command equipment requires a larger chassis.

This is me as well. I'd rather duck and weave through a fight than go toe to toe and have the best load out/armor win.

I am very interested in seeing how the dynamics work out in this game. If they are as good as I am hoping I will likely be in a light or medium mech with jump jets because I love my mobility and there is nothing more satisfying then taking out a mech that is twice your weight after a long running fight of cat and mouse. I would also like to try out the commander thing but not sure what weight class that will need.

There's just too many awesome mechs from each weight class to make a solid decision just yet.

I'm a heavy/fire support specialist in most online play. I love 'Underweight' heavy 'Mechs, like Panthers, Whitworth, Centurion, Hunchback, Vindicator.

I also love well balanced fire support design: Catapult, Crusader-3D, Archer-2S. a CRD-3D is balanced enough as it to survive on a 3050s battlefield, especially if loaded with SWARM1.

a VND-1R is the safest mech on a battlefield---you just stand next to the Marauder or Atlas :)

I doubt they will have it, because of the lack of melee, but i enjoy running the Black Knight BL-7-KNT, If not i will end up running an assault mech the Hatamoto-Chi .. i have also been known to run Panther's as well, depending on the mission needs.

Later on after the invasion starts i will hopefully run a Hankyu

will wreck it in my shadowcat if its like MW4. not even a contest. Really there should be a forced tonnage dispersion in a mixed lance with proper scouts and middle weights and the MKII/Daishi boats

While I've been known to brawl in an LBX boat on a double-trigger setup, my favorite is *always* being an anklebiter in a small, agile 'mech with a big, stupid gun.

It was generally an Uller with a single LBXAC20 in MW4, though from time to time me and my buddies would run Trashcan From Hell, particularly in busy lunar maps with lots of terrain to hide in.
