Speed is as deadly as firepower. It's all in how you use it. If you give a vet a choice between a Assault mech and a Medium or even light, I would be willing to bet that they would go with the Medium.

I will be using the least-stupid looking birdleg Light Mech in the game.

Can you scout in a Puma? I can try. If I'm not on the tubebaby team, imma use Jenner.

If everything Bryan is saying about "not being your father's mechwarrior" and "roles" and "balances" and "no P2W" is true then I would be really interested in this information warfare.

I'm most interested just based on reading things, in playing a light mech. I want to see what sort of mischief I can cause with electronic warfare. It's a lot "foxier" than trudging about in an Awesome anyways.

Also mostly clan tech... which means they probably won't appear in the game (at least at first) if devs stick to the plan of starting in 3049.

I'd like to pilot a Hunchback, or Catapult... or a Hussar as a scout, if they make it available.

In BT board game, I'd chose medium/heavy over assault any day, but in MW4V & MW4M it was hard to run around with an Uziel and hope those four Daishis and two MKII's aren't gonna tear you appart. Yet, with MekTek release, I found that Hunchback (and it's clan IIC variant) suited me the best.

It does seems like NO ONE likes assault mechs at all.

Is that really the case? Thats the impression one gets from reading this board.

Personally, I'm more into Heavy Mechs but I don't really realise how unpopular Assault Mechs are until this forum.

If I can't get joe into a Battlemaster to start, I'd like a Warhammer, Centurion or a Wolfhound. The Beemer is a character tie only.

Personally, I have mech's I'll pilot in every range, But I personally prefer mediums. No specific one, but because they can be quick, and can carry enough firepower to matter and enough armor to survive. Usual purpose for Medium mechs is sweeping, flanking, and Calvary roles. Most mediums seem well suited to this role.

Depending on the equipment available, I prefer the medium and light mechs.
The Shadow Hawk was always my number one favorite mech, and my preferred medium mech. Although, the clan Shadowcat isn't to bad.
For the I.S., I enjoy the Locust and Spider for high-speed scouting, but the Panther is my favorite all around mech, especially if I can make a few minor mods to it. ;p
For the Clans, the Cougar is the most fun to run, especially with a pulse medium laser in each arm, and an Er LRM for backup.

I always regarded Assault mechs as basically semi mobile weapons platforms personally. they were essential towards the ends in Mw4M, but that doesnt change my outlook on them. Heavies, though mount less, are at least faster, and can even do heavy cavalry roles. there was one mission with Hammer lance where you kind of needed a set of fast heavies to help support Hammer (if you wanted the extra nobility and for help in a later mission), and Assaults sometimes if not always didnt cut it. Didnt help that Hammer lance was both light and pretty bad at piloting =).

I also recall mediums being regarded as the "work horse" mech of The universe, In either case, I like Mediums the most. forces a person to decide on a mix of engine, armor and weapons. Makes it interesting to see how a person compromises and where.

The battle field is littered with the wrecks of mechs that ignored infantry.
I am all for non mech combat, tanks, artillery, battle armour, infantry. I would rather run around with an anti-mech rifle and or demo charges, urban combat, drop buildings on people.
