IS, I'd go for a Bushwacker
However, not given any restrictions on mech selection, I'd either take a Madcat MKII, or a Madcat. My 2nd best choice would be a Thanatos

For me, the Heavies do it. Better mobility than an Assault, with decent punch, but a small sacrifice to armor. The Timber Wolf has been a personal favorite of mine due to his excellent loadout capabilities. I can save multiple role variants and play to the style needed.
This man has it right.
For myself, i am always in a light or medium fast moving mech poking you with lazers or LRMs unless, I know and can count on the team.
When you have a great lance and you know they will keep your back clear, nothing and i mean NOTHING beats an assault mech fitted with nothing but PPCs. So what if i only get to fire once every 15 seconds or so, i get to down a mech with every single blast (except for those stupid fast light mechs that you need buddies to hit for you)

As luck would have it I'm taking next week off in anticipation of the snow party we expect to blow through these parts. Now how to get north of the 7 (locals will know what that means) to sunny Hudson Bay? Snowmobile or dog sled? hmm.... Snowcat?

but as i was saying: medium mechs; Actic Wolf has a speed of 119km/h, and is a medium, while packing a full hot load of SRMs

There's a few mediums that fit the bill, true, but in general lights are my thing.

However, failing that, I'm more of a Medium-Heavy pilot. Raven was only ever good for CTF - take out all the weapons, pack it with armor and engine upgrades, and you outrun everything. Outside of that, Raven was horrible. In a light mech, I'd prefer to see Razorback or Cougar, Medium mech, Bushwacker or Uziel, and Heavies, has to be either a Mad Cat or a Zeus.
