The latest "Information Warfare" info has really opened things up IMO. If it will work in the way I imagine it to, I would happily play in a support role, be it as a light scout, missile boat or otherwise. It seems as if teamwork will become a very important aspect of the game and so providing tactical information for my commander to ensure that the heavy mechs under his command are able to complete their objectives safely and efficiently - to know that I had played an important role in the battle through other means than just blowing stuff up, something like that would give me a great deal of satisfaction.

I love how most people here are thinking in the "I can hurtle past the heavies and assault mechs and blast their rears no problem!" mindset. Rather than "I know how to use my mech's abilities and how I can coordinate with my teammates in lighter and heavier mechs to win." Those out there saying a lance of lights and mediums can cut up heavies and assaults, that is true, but then again a coordinated group of lights, mediums, heavies, and assaults will rip apart pure forces of any one weight class. That's skill and that's the game.

Plus as I've learned playing, you can be a veteran player who could probably change his mech's overall color just from painting all his kills on it and still get taken out by that newbie's lucky hit with a PPC.

Knowing you can have one of your lancemates bring a barrage of LRMs down when needed makes harassing heavy and assault mechs sound all the more fun :D

Hope their's the Rifleman in the game, I would love to pilot the Rifleman RFL-3N, strafing targets with my 2 Large Lasers, and 2 AC/5... while trying to manage my HEAT and AMMO!

Hope there are AI controlled VTOLs in the game, so I can actually perform my role !!!

Who's willing to pilot something other than an Assault Mech?

That would be me. I'll skip on being a giant moving target, thanks. Give me a good heavy mech or medium mech. Heavies are big enough to make a difference, but not big enough to be on top of the 'kill nao!' list. Mediums are the foot soldiers of the mech world.

To clarify, in an Assault Mech, from the moment you take the field, all eyes and all guns are gonna be on you. In a Heavy or Medium, you can actually get something done while everyone else pounds on the Assaults. Besides, in the right Medium mech, you can be the biggest little fish, and pick on everyone beneath you. In the the right Heavy mech, you can be the littlest big fish, and pick on everyone but the Assaults, who are usually too busy fighting each other to care, anyway.

Yes! a 'Mech loaded for bare with any long range weapon. or failing that a raven loaded up with a TAG or NARC spotting targets! (I just hope that firing a TAG doesn't give away my position or it'll rather defeat the purpose of a light mech).

In MW3 & 4 I favored mediums and heavies, but I'm intrigued by what PGI has planned for Information Warfare. Scouting, spotting for indirect fire. I'm actually looking forward to piloting a light 'Mech with advanced electronics.

With the gameplay, I too Feel an attraction to the scout mechs. It may be a trend that will actually send me to the assault mech. i had seriously hoped to get a scout mech, but after reading this thread, there may be too much competition. If we can have multiple mechs, then no problem, or maybe I'll have another account, we'll see. Thanks uncle danno

Aye, tis true. If I had my light mech wish, I will avoid contact for effect, yet engage contact to annoy, and my narc system to allow my friendly missle boats to have a little fun on the run!!!

If it comes to Mediums, either Bushwacker or Shadowhawk, but my main goto will be the Timberwolf.

I actually like using some Assault class mechs and am pretty good with them (Atlas is OK but too slow for my taste, Mauler is good as a command mech depending on the weapons load-out and armor points being better than the lame stock MW4 settings, Stalker is excellent for fire support at all ranges if you manage the heat well, Marauder II or IIC is the ultimate one-mech army for raids on cold planets, and nothing beats a jump-capable Highlander for urban combat - and of course I like the Kodiak which combines both speed and devastation... Stone rhino tops them all except for the SLOW speed...)

But if I were to choose anything other than an assault mech, I would probably go for some of the "boxy" heavy clan designs, the Hellbringer or Summoner, or their IS relatives the Thunderbolt and Warhammer. In MW4 Mercs I like using the Black Heart (though I hate the Wobbies) but since it is a later development it probably will not be in MWO.

I also generally like the Jagermech and Catapult, and MAYBE the Hellspawn (though it's a bit weak on the armor for a Medium Mech IMO...)

Playing MW:LL i got a good feel for different mechs (I have to give it to them.. really good job of balancing the game).

Always thought in MW4 the assualts were too fast, and the lights too weak.

In MW:LL the tanks seem to do pretty good if you can hide and get off good long range shots.. really love how the ACs in the game go like Machine guns..

I digress..

I Love the Awesome.. fitted out right with a bigger engine, dropping 2 PPCs and adding some missles.. it can be a fast assualt with a lot more punch than some of the Heavys.. but not as combersome as the Atlas.. etc..

I will say I do like the Heavies that can utilize JJs and full torso twist.

It truly will come down to the balance and game play of the Mechs.. From what little we heard of the play test, it would seem it is balanced well as a lance of Jenners took out an group of Hunchbacks (If you believe the trolling..)

While I like most assault mechs, my favorite IS design is probably the Awesome. I can get them up to a pretty decent speed if I'm willing to chance a bit of heat. That and they have thicker armor than some assault mechs heavier than them.

Umm that acutally a tactic.. its not camping its providing indirect fire support for your team kind of like artilery. Generally done with a trio of team mates, one is a spotter, one provides the indirect fire, and the other one gaurds your fire support. Standard when you have something like say a TBT Prime config, with a CN9 Prime and a scout like oh say OW- Alt config A. Just saying...

I would be willing to piolet something other than Assault Mechs. The mediums seem to have a nice mix of speed and weapons. Plus it is a nice blend that will allow you to use it many ways. I will hopefully spend a lot of time in a Catapult mech as that is my one favorite mech.

In the books, prior to the clans.. most mechs were mediums and lights. There was a reason why everyone stopped and watched the assaults go at it.
