The Third Person things gonna happen whether you like it or not. Head over to War Thunder if you want to see why. Everytime I log in there are 20-30 thousand people playing that game. It has three modes Arcade, Realistic and Historical. The majority seem to play the easy version. Personally I hate 3rd person so as long as we get the option to play with those who don't like third person why should I care. If 3rd person draws a crowd and keeps mechs and tech comming then I'm all for it. Now increase my Fraggin SRM's up to 3 DAmage for Frag sake seriously.

Well guys, hold on to something.
Here it comes. Bryan's reasoning for swapping the Quickdraw in for the Orion:

I asked on Twitter:

Quote

@bryanekman What was the reason to push back the Orion several months? Many in the community were really looking forward to it.

His response:

Quote

@frosenberger the Quickdraw offered more to the meta game at this point, so we pushed it up a cycle.

Well, I'm a little ... dunno ... yeah ... now you know. :)

That has to be in the top 10 of lame excuses.

Yeah now I want to know just what the QuickDraw has to offer to the current meta that the Orion could not offer?

I thought they pushed it back because of terrorism.

As long as there is an option to launch where all players have 3rd person disabled, then Im cool with it. Let the kiddies have thier pew pew fun room while the fans that actually support this game can play it right.

Super pissed over this quickdraw stunt. I was looking forward to the Orion more than anything. The quickdraw doesnt pique my interest in the least, other than the simple fact that I love to pilot heavy mechs. Now I get stuck with another 60 ton mech, and we still dont have a 75 tonner that can deal some real damage. I'm not impressed with the loadouts of the possible variants, looks like a slightly bigger trenchbucket without a real role to fill. Its just gonna get eaten alive by the poptarts, of which that side of the force is obviously growing stronger and not looking back with the Victor on the way. Great job PGI... great job.

3pv, more poptarts, halfassed fix for poptarting that can clearly be worked around, and no solution for the extreme boating of PPC's and guass rifles. looks like this game is circling the drain.

I don't know. What RG Notch makes perfect marketing sense. As popular as the Orion is going to be, it makes sense to push it back to provide the Hero mech before the other variants like they did with the Highlander.

Perhaps they thought another jump-jet pop-tarter fitted the current meta better? I mean, Orion, do you even lift? No jump-jets on that thing, no jump-jets at all.

QD, on the other hand, has JJs and loads of energy hardpoints. Fits the poptart meta *much* better.

Bah, hell. Who knows what PGI are thinking.

Yeah, that's a possibility for sure. It's already burned me though with the way it was handled so I don't care how great the Orion Hero mech is, I'm not buying it. I've already bought the Ilya.
In fact, at this point it's doubtful I'll put anymore money into the game. I'll play it because I love the BTech universe, but unless they have a mea culpa moment with this, it's doubtful I'll spend another cent on the game.

Makes sense to me. What major changes are we seeing this month? Jj nerfs and balancing to try and combat the poptart meta. Also srm and LRM balancing changes. The QuickDraw tests both those metas far better than an Orion.

But why bring a 60ton mech instead of a Cataphract-3D or even a Highlander. Unless it has less shake in its jumping.

They also said they intend to change weapons on a monthly basis. Which so far has been pretty true, and if it is, we may not see increased SRM damage for another month.

Temporary fix?

I have an idea so profound, I came out of my long lurking silence to speak it: Why don't we take the team working on 3rd person, and devote their resources to releasing 'mech concept art in a fashion that is both timely, and easy to notice? ( as I recall, the Victor's announcement was relegated to a buried section on the announcements forum, rather than the front page. )

I was so uninterested in the QD that I didn't even look to see that it itself is a poptart... holy hell PGI are you insane? two more poptarts in a row? You guys should be involved in politics! Tell us one thing, then give us another left and right. You wont see another dime from me till this turns around. So sick of it.

That's providing any one buys the QD. I saved c-bills, GXP and got 3 mech bays ready for orion, then they pull this stunt. There's no other mech I want at the moment, so I was waiting patiently. I guess it just means PGI won't be getting any more cash out of me for a good few months. I won't be getting the QD.

The most important part of this tho, is that PGI have shown us they won't always do what they say they'll do. They must have been chatting to some politicians.

That's strange, I thought the Catapult was already released?

Along those same lines, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that we are going to see a lot of 2xPPC + gauss builds. So this looks like an attempt to try and move meta from "all snipers all the time" to a little more brawling. I'm not saying its a good reason to push the Orion, but I guess I understand the thinking.

I suspect that whatever cry engine guy they have working on third person is probably not a highly trained illustrator.

No, you're thinking the trebuchet.

we needed a bridge between the 50 and 65 ton mechs that have missiles, lasers, and jump. the 60ton Quickdraw is the answer. It offers a lot more thanthe first 75 tonner.

Now there's an idea. But, man, if we gotta have a jumping missile/energy heavy; GIVE ME A GRASSHOPPER. Wait, not until I can punch things with it. Nevermind.

Thank you. As far as I'm concerned, you guys proved yourselves right here. I'm not even mad about the third-person stuff.

You won me over right here. I may not always agree with every decision you all make, but you've got me for the life of the game. I'm pretty sure a few others out there agree with me.

Good on ya, guys. :-)

again... I do not own a single light mech... but I will come the 25th, heck I may own two...
