What? You fear them? ;)

Yes... lemmings, beware the lemmings, but proceed to laugh and roflstomp when lemmings fail.

Fear is just a state of mind.

Fearing Russians is a no-go, since that only plays against you. They are a tough bunch by nature, but if you understand what they say, there's nothing so fearful about them. They play and can die just as you and I. ;)

I never quite understood why were people making it such a deal when they played against them. :)

Being free to play, i expect 95 % of the player base to really want to play and the rest to be the passing through, aggravate everyone and leave type. That 5% is usually fairly vocal, and everyone has to do things their way, and heaven help those that don't have the right spec, loadout, etc.

Being this ias a strategy and team play game this is a perfect fit For My clan moving over from Section 8. Which was a awsome team and strategy FPS! Well till the ruined it with Prejudice! But we will be making a quite sizable contuibution hear at MWO! Most all of us are previous mec warrior players so should be easy transition!!

You do have a great point on the games speed not attracting fast players. Some are already asking for it to play on 360 however there is a title coming for the 360 which is much faster than this. So that defo takes potential speed freaks away from MW:O.

Another area that will push hundreds of players out of this game is using a headset. Every week I expect to come across a small minded gamer who complains because I'm not using chat in this game. I talk to my little girl and my partner, I talk to customers when they call on Skype and I talk to myself when I got a good drink in me ;)

I will have a headset ready and I will talk to my guild. But I'm not going to go all tactical military style every day for every fight. I've been in the army, I'm fed up with the number of players who try to give orders poorly with poor decisions then say something about being my commander :)

I just ain't here to fulfil your fantasies ^_^

I think it comes down to the mechanics of the game.. Depending on what the devs have in store for us I see several scenarios, 2 of which could be these.

1) Game is dumbed down so "regular" folk can play without much hassel, has a similar simple gameplay as WoT, wow and the likes. Also, less "faction" wars, or guild wars. Missions will be easy, shoot this, get there and so on.
Mechs cannot be destroyed/crippled, but stay in hangar even after a severe battle which would have destroyed a mech.
Mechs cannot overheat --> core explosion.
Little to no penalties for killing teammates, or suiciding on enemy.

2) Game is complex, guild wars, faction wars are played over large scale maps, with objectives that are not simple. Perhaps smt. like escort this and this through enemy territory, with minimal to no losses, defend the outpost whilst downloading data for the sattelite that commands the shields of the nearby outpost, so the second lance can go in and take it out, and at the same time 3. lance is diverting enemy fire to them so the recon teams can take out the base, and so on. :-)
The learning curve should fun but hard(many aspects of gun control, arm control and so on.). Like many have said, building a mech is not all about guns and nothing else, its about fulfilling the role of said mech, and making sure you can survive when your out in the field with that role.
I belive mechs should have the option of being destroyed, or at least crippled to such a degree that one would never just go headone in a battle. Repairing said mech should be exponsive, and there should be the option that some weps on the mech are just utterly destroyed and cannot be salvaged. This part should prevent peolpe from just lemming'ing into a game and rush forward.
The core of a mech should be able to overheat and explode, under severe pressure. Causing critical/crippled damage on mech, or utterly destrooying it.
Make it so, as when a mech down it should not be able to take further dmg, preventing mischevios acts on said me.. and so on..

While these 2 possibilites are there, it doesn't mean that I think it will go this way, since there are many flaws in my suggestions, but it is an option!
With the fact that we are playing mechs (relative slow gameplay) could discourage people, it makes this game a bit more interesting compared to conventional FPS games because you dont have a fixed number of HP, but several devided on the entirety of the bady of the mech, making it harder to just hit and insta kill. I think it is one of the things I like in the combat of a mech. Even if you've lost an arm, smashed the shoulder and crippled a leg, you can still fight!
I think many people from many places will try this game, FPS gamers, and ever RPG/RTS gamers.
A few things that might help on the game would be a storyline going on. Such as the world is real and it moves forward in time(Eve online style), not static alone, adding events such as invasions on this planet and so on, where mechwarriors can help defend areas and so on. With regular events, it would add to the game a sense of life and reality. A very nice thing would be if there we're also battles in space, on planets that have little or no gravity pull. Maybe even on spacestations, where you must conquer it before the enemy does it!

But again.. I am waiting for the Devs to show us what they got, and I am very VERY excited to see whats in story for me and all of you in this game.

In devs we trust.!!

Edit: The headset idea is awesome ;) should be somewhat mandatory to have that in the game :)

CoD spray and pray guys? Battlefield 3 "teamwork" players? MW1,2,3, and 4 players?

I definitely expect to see some Mechwarrior veterans, no doubt about that: but I can't quite see too many CoD-style gamers trying it because if they saw the trailer, they most likely think the gameplay is far too slow.
As far as teamwork goes...yes. Lots of it. At least that's what I hope for in the average MW:O player. Just have to wait and see imo.

What do you guys think?

P.S. I couldn't find a topic like this, so if there's one already- please link. I could just be very clueless.

According to a recent poll http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1 about 95% of the active people here in the community are former MW4 players at least. So we can take from that that most players have a basic understanding of MechWarrior and what to expect in MWO. Once the game launches I expect to see an influx of players that have no experience with the game and I expect to see a lot of noobs and young kids wasting a lot of Mechs on the battle field for a couple of months while I increase my pilot experience. ;) ^_^ :)

I am pretty sure we will see a vast range of different types of players. I do think the majority of the CoD players will leave early because as people have said, this is going to be a much slower paced game, and they won't be able to run around with a knife.

MWO is a strategy/tactics/team thing. Those that come here looking for the "I have the biggest weapon" experience will be disappointed. I think MechWarrior has always attracted a more intelligent player base that thinks about the finer points of war and how to win. For me the beauty of MechWarrior is that it is a thinking man's game, not a who has the biggest weapons game. It takes more than just the biggest baddest Assault to come out on top in MechWarrior and that is what I like about it. It's complicated in a good way.

I giggled a bit when the OP mentioned the Battlefield 3 "teamwork guys". I'm playing heaps of BF3 right now and I'm seeing just about zero teamwork, more just 3 or 4 guys per team who actually know what they're doing. Of course when you get a few guys communicating who know what they're doing it's very effective!

With apparently so many people coming from MW4 it seems likely that most people will know the basics of what they're doing.

I also see a lot of people are using a joystick. Does it give better control? Or just a more authentic feel?

Sometimes it's not about how fast the avatar is moving, sometimes its about everything else going on.

The Killzone online for PS2 was considered as fast as gaming gets. Two steps and bang, you either shot a player in the face with a shotgun or your the one that got it. You had to move bloody fast to watch your back and the best players, myself included, could take out 10 others players without dying simply by never slowing down.

MechWarriors is far from that kind of speed. So yes it can be considered a slow or slower game and is not everyones cup of tea. This game, much like Star Trek Online, introduces pressure, rather than speed of play, through your avatar requiring some degree of management. Obviously not so much in MW:O as STO but the heat issue and ammo are enough in this game to make the action feel faster paced because your mind has so much to deal with.

Maybe this franchise is about how you make it. If you get yourself into the battle quick and into the thick of it you will need to think fast, move fast to win. I remember running behind objects for a few seconds to cooldown, that sort of thing.

The type of player I'm always keeping tabs on is usually invariably the score leader and MVPs. They are the ones who are familiar with doing what it takes in order to increase their teams score. In a well-coded game this not only means they do damage and get kills, but more threateningly, they actually complete objectives.

Your run of the mill player takes things heads on and believes in getting into close range at all time. These are cannon fodder. Your true hostiles come from those who pick off enemies from range as much as they can and avoiding confrontations if need be. Your tactical brawlers will be sneaky Mechs who utilize their skills to get within range to do massive damage without you being aware.

Fodder might bring over CoD or BF tactics which some of which will not transpose well to MWO, but the tactical player will adapt so that they bring over the successful core strategies, but then alter them to work with MWO's mechanics.
