So... Goonswarm in the Capellan Confederation?

If goons joining this game means another 100 or more players to fight with, fantastic. Those with delicate sensibility's will, in time, become immune to the local chat. Those who realise this is just a game, and should be enjoyed, may learn how to join in on the smack talk. Or ignore it, whatever.
I lost billions of ISK fighting goons, PL, TEST, ect while in an very fail alliance. They are a frustrating enemy, and at times a rewarding one. A large percentage are just as bad as the people they deride. All this fear is amusing. I look forward to facing them across the map. And if the chatter is correct, and there is a FRR unit forming, I'll look forward to fighting beside them if the game places me in a match beside them.
They will not stop you from RPing. They will not stop you from forming a unit and working on making it good. In short. They will not stop you from doing whatever you want to do in this game unless you let them.
(They may shoot you in the back for teh lulz though.)

You'd think so but generally speaking even people with a great deal of playtime are frequently performing at a significantly suboptimum level of skill. Apparently they consider their skill level to be sufficient. We endeavor to demonstrate that their skill level is not sufficient and is in fact so notably lacking that it is garnering public notice. We have found this to be very effective.

They most post and usually ask spurious and ridiculous questions in reply to comments. They are all laughing at some inside joke, and they think they are funnier than I am. Especially this "The Mittani" guy.
The only other guy to use "The" in his name was "The Situation", and honestly I don't think that is working out too well for him overall.
They sound too much like me, so I suspect we are going to have "issues".
Respectfully,
The Festus
Yep. Those are the only two people to use "The" in their name. Oh wait...

I think part of the disconnect you see is that a lot of the people who've been on the wrong side of the Goons in EVE were playing EVE with what (I know this is gonna sound arrogant and snotty, but unfortunately, it's true) is basically the wrong attitude for EVE. EVE's a vicious, cutthroat game. If you want to get big in EVE, you're going to have to step on people - it's unavoidable, because there's only so much space, only so much stuff, and if you want it, you've gotta take it. Sure, you could stay in high-sec and work up skills for a few years, doing veldspar mining and playing small-potatoes market trading, and you'll get a respectable amount of money and a decent set of skills. But you won't get big.
There's really nothing else out there that compares to 'big' in EVE - it really does stagger the mind to try to comprehend the scope of empires ouot in nullsec unless you've been out there and dealt with folks. Even in W-space, the forces arrayed across multiple systems are absolute pittance compared to the fleets and firepower the nullsec empires wield. And all of that comes at the price of taking it from someone else - because if you don't take it, nobody's gonna let you have it. And when they come to take it from you, they aren't gonna fight honorably, they aren't gonna play by any social mores. They're gonna do whatever they can to win, so if you're not ready to do the same... you're going to lose.
I don't make my living in nullsec - I was part of a w-space corp, and we made 90% of our cash by mining. Nice, happy, friendly miners, living in a C4 WH w/multiple capital ships we built in there to make sure anyone coming in to take it would find easier prey elsewhere. But we were also the evil jerks who, when we got bored of mining, would send a half-dozen scouts scanning out routes through wormholes to find other people mining, and organize our stealth bombers, recon cruisers, and strategic cruisers to go hunting. Because everyone out there would hunt us if they got the chance. So taking out the competition quickly becomes the only way to stay safe. The nicest, most carebear, most 'no, we mustn't ruin other peoples' fun' players I've ever encountered in other games quickly came to understand that rule, and live by it.
Because that's EVE: Ultimately, the only way to stay safe is to make everyone else dead.
So Goons did whatever it took to win? They griefed? They jumped on helpless victims in gate-camps? They exploited every possible mathematical and code advantage they could in order to hang onto what was theirs and make dead the people who would, eventually, come looking to take it from them?
Good.
Sounds like they were playing EVE, just the way it's meant to be played, to me.

I'm ecstatic the goons are here, they were great fun to play with in WoT, and are damn good players.
Don't feed them with tears, and you'll find they are extremely amusing to play with.

Now, I recognize this is throwing out a hypothetical situation, but what would have happened had the individual actually killed himself? While I agree that anyone who takes such action would have had obvious mental issues requiring clear help, that's exactly why behaving a certain way in public is promoted: to avoid sending someone over the edge. Some of those requiring help aren't necessarily in need of it all the time, you can always catch a person at a low point in their life.
Edit: I applaud your apology, Mittani.

You might as well say, "Golly gosh, I hope there's no 4Channers in MWO." Or no Redditers. Or no homosexuals. Or no blacks. Any of those would A. make about as much sense as hoping there will be no Goons, and B. have about as much chance of actually happening.
edit- wtc, apparently the letter g followed by "ays" is a censored word here. Wow.

If their a selfish community we can just view them as a former merc company that ended up joining the CCAF like McCarron's Armored Calvary.
I really don't think there is anything to worry about, it seems the bad rep just comes from over-inflated rumors.

Y'know, the funny thing about that...I do happen to like dem ponies. On the other hand, I also find Alex Iglesias' pics of furry-massacre-by-Mech hilarious. I don't take things serious. Srs business is Internet poison.

We have a massive community of our own, with its own culture. The condemnation of outsiders means nothing to us except as a vehicle for comedy, because it's not like we'll be grouping up with random publords anyway (pubbies hate winning) This is the reason why this thread is at 15 pages and growing: you are angry at goons, not because they 'misbehave', but because they are not bound by the social mores of whatever culture you happen to hail from - on this subforum, a ~serious roleplay~ culture - and that the common goon doesn't react to your chastisement in the way you expect (apology and conformity) and instead just laughs and makes a joke about robots.
*shrugs* Which is as it should be. The day a game group takes themselves too seriously is the day they NEED to be gooned. The man that cannot laugh at his own flaws to accept them is a failure, it's only a matter of time before something's cracked.

Nah. It'll remain a magnet to people who somehow think SA collecting themselves onto Liao is the coming of the Internet Apocalypse, where they can wring their hands about the horror of "them".
If I could, I'd slap them through their monitors. Effective tactics with a side of I-don't-give-a-s*** is effective. All I ask of anyone playing for the Capellans is to have fun and play well, and try not to bend your allies over a barrel if you feel the need to go elsewhere or get bored and quit. That means your fellow Cappies. Likewise, I'd encourage any Liao player to pay attention to what's going on with the Goons, whatever they call themselves on this server. Take advantage of your new resource here, contribute, add to the collective pool of expertise we will develop. Work with people and don't be random scrubs. Even inexperienced players can be effective if they listen, do what they're shown, and fulfill their role on the field.
We've never been about the zerg, or had immense population advantage. It's been about making the best out of whatever comes our way, and winning with it. So seriously. Can the drama and adopt a productive attitude.
