Still got like 70$ worth of MC lyin around. (17k exactly). I'd really like an option to buy-in on the variants with MC, without dumping another load of real money in a game that I hardly play atm.

That would defeat the purpose of this entire sale, which is to get more money, not have you use monetized assets you already purchased. Hence why people are calling it a money grab.

I think this is a great deal for a new player. Being one, I do not have a hero mech yet, but this promotion seems just Fantastic! with all the extra's from mechs to the Faction Medallion. I love the 30% c-bill boost!

One question though? What does the "Limited Edition Geometry" mean? its in the box on the left hand side as a tool tip for the Phoenix Battlemechs box, under the Limited Edition Camo. I do not understand what this means? anyone know? and thanks in advance.

It means the special phoenix mechs will look slightly different from the standard variant despite being functionally the same (that is the model itself not just the camo) like the founders mechs, for example the catapult c1 founders has a more rounded/pointed nose where other cats look like that bit has been cut off... if you look at the media section concept art compare the blue cat with the yellow to see what I mean.

Nah, won't be buying into this.

Don't like having to buy the overlord package to get the battlemaster. when all it is is another hero mech.

It should be done like the founders pack where you can pick your ride.

I'd only want the Thunderbolt and Battlemaster.

Forcing you to have to buy the most expensive pack to get the battlemaster smacks of greed to me.

This is answered in the FAQ:

Quote

Q: Are the Project Phoenix Phoenix Variant and Standard Variant Mechs customizable in the areas of exterior cosmetic changes, loadout changes and/or cockpit customizations?
A: The Camo Spec, Loadout and cockpit customizations can all be user-selected and changed for the Phoenix BattleMechs and their Standard Variants.

Even better, if you mouseover the Phoenix Battlemechs on mwomercs.com/phoenix, you can see that the Phoenix edition mechs come with a custom limited edition camo pattern.

So, unlike regular heros, you'll be able to apply and remove the Phoenix camo pattern.

Speculation: Camo patterns are chassis-specific, not variant specific, so it's entirely possible you'll be able to use the Phoenix pattern on the regular variants as well as the Hero variant.

Regardless, unlike normal heros you WILL be able to remove the custom pattern and replace it with whatever you want.

That's pretty sweet.

I am not really worried about the price. It seems as reasonable or unreasonable as all the prices.

What annoys me a bit is that Hero Mechs get a +30 % bonus to C-Bill income, and this new package, which is basically just a Founder's Mark II, also gives mechs with 30 % bonus... But Founder's are still at 25 %. Why is that?

Because the Founder's mechs are what they are, and are exactly what they were advertised as. Founders got exactly what they were promised. New stuff having shinier shinies isn't at all surprising or unexpected.

Don't expect existing things to change when new stuff is added. Also, it's just 5%. *shrugs* While I'm not a founder, could I go back in time I'd absolutely buy a pack. They were still very good deals, and remain so today.

so, the "package" will be "vaulted"...but will the mechs remain available??

The regular mechs yes, but the special Phoenix variants (with their unique camo patterns, hero bonus, etc) will not be.

Dear Butane, be sure that during 2014 they'll release some sort of faction mech that awards you with 35% cbill bost and 15% loyalty boost. They did this to the Founders when this kind of mechs get you 25% boost while actual heroes award you 30%. The same will happen with faction medallions, post-phoneix ones will be even more effective than those in the pack.

Of course they will. The next pack with be Clan mechs. Everyone has to see that coming.

The Phoenix Pack did nothing to Founders, and a Clan pack will do nothing to Phoenix Project buyers. You got exactly what was advertised, and what you got didn't change.

Even then... you had to know, getting in as a founder, that your (F) mechs would eventually be eclipsed. If nothing else, come the introduction of Clan mechs.

Better things being released later? Never did they say that wouldn't be the case, and if you expected otherwise... Well, that's pretty naive.

Yet, it can be a good deal in terms of money, but I don't want to pay real money for std variants, and I don't like either the Locust nor the TB. I can't pick up my mechs, I don't give them any money, plain and simple.
Fair enough. It's a package deal, and it's not for everyone.

I for one am very happy with it and haven't regretted my Overlord purchase for a second.

You do know that this package is all about nostalgia right? Its mainly aimed towards old BT players who love the old original unseen mechs.

Sure, but they need to fit in with MWO's visual style. All the mechs have been altered to fit MWO's visual style. We don't have hand held guns. At all. (for this, I am thankful) The domed cockpit would have been pretty cool, but how would you determine which part actually counted as the cockpit? It'd be a mess. Lacking that though is hardly a big deal. Ultimately, they did a pretty good job keeping the Battlemaster look (as per some of the artwork, there's a huge variety) while conforming to MWO's aesthetics.

Of course, like anything artistic, some will like it more than others. It's rather subjective.

And as this week draws to a close and PGI leaves the office it has become apparent that radio silence truly has become the policy.

Long gone is the company who communicates with its biggest fans and now it is replaced by a faceless entity who cares not.

Firs things first PGI doesn't get dime one until this is actually a *#^&ing game. Second we need to know what all 3 variants are, hardpoints and all that. Third these things had damn have all the "quirks" and perks sorted out. The locust is ******** unless it is as manueverable as its supposed to be, also max engine 170? o.0 weak sauce.

Still looking for an answer on this one...will those mechs be available after the package expires? or is this package the only way to obtain those four chassis?

Haven't you read the FAQ? Those mechs will be available later on, the Battlemaster is the last one, 22nd January 2014 is the date when it will be available also for non-phoenix buyers.

*I mean non-hero phoenix variants of course.

On the fence, but for a reason that I haven't seen posted yet, so I'll throw it in the mix. If I buy a mech, I will play it until I max it out, or it will gnaw at me. If I buy three, I will master at least one.

If I buy this package, I will have to master a... Locust. :(

What the FAQ says is that the Battlemaster (it's regular production variants) will be released on 22nd January 2014 for people who didn't purchase the Project Phoenix pack. They will be able to buy whatever the non hero variants of the mechs are for ingame cbills at that time.

The individual you quoted was asking about the 4 Phoenix variant mechs; these Phoenix "Hero" mechs will never be available again once the sale is over.

Goes to MWO Dealership
Customer 1: Hello! I would like to buy this new Truck
Customer 3: A what now?
PGI: Great, well limited time you can get this truck and several add-ons for a great discount! You'll get the truck, a flimsy vespa, a sports car, and a mini van all for the low price of 80,000 dollars!
Customer: But I just want the Truck and all I have is the 30,000 it's worth
Customer 3: A truck?
PGI: *silence*
customer 2: Silly guy! It's such a great deal just fork over the 80,000!
Customer 1: But I can't afford it, also it's a bad business practice to keep the item I want hostage in order to get me to buy the fodder I don't want.
Customer 2: *various vitriolic comments*
Customer 1: Please PGI, reconsider?
Customer 3: oh.. you guys probably shouldn't buy a truck.
PGI: *silence*
Customer 1: Ok, I'm going to another dealership to buy a truck. I wanted PGIs truck, but they wont sell it to me unless I buy a bunch of fodder.
Customer 2: I could afford 80k, why couldn't he? LOL
Customer 3: you really don't want to buy a truck.
Customer 2: ... I don't?
Customer 3: nope. Not from this company anyways. I mean look at the design of this thing. It's a little weird isn't it?
Customer 2: ... yea... it's a little weird... but that's kind of it's charm.
Customer 3 points to several parts of the truck, visible flaws: Well what about this, this, this and this.
Customer 2: you're right.. this truck is kind of a piece. I'm outta here.
PGI: *silence*
Customer 3 looks around, see's he's alone and approaches the salesman: Hi PGI, I'd like to buy a truck. Yea that nice red model over there. It's perfect.. Thanks.

Fixed.

Greetings all,

Russ Bullock has stated that with the specific legal issues resolved with the Battle Tech material, they were able to offer these mech's. And they wanted to "get them out there" as soon as possible.

[something that PGI is quite proud to be able to do, bringing "unseen/re-seen" chassis back to the Battle Tech arena after a 10 to 15 year absence.]

Additionally there will be offerings of the "Wolverine" and the "Griffin" chassis at a later date. There were other chassis lines that are now also "on the table" but name's have not yet been released. Just about any Mech that Battle Tech owns the "Name" and "Specifications" on may now be redone into the MWO series, and there was even talk of PGI releasing the Canon history and allowing "Alex" to design new Mech's. (I know, blasphemy, but you never know?)

All this can be heard on the NGNG podcast from (June 26 2013)
" No Guts No Galaxy Podcast #79: Russ Bullock ".
At this link: http://www.nogutsnog...et/podcasts.php

The podcast is an hour long and there may be adult vocabulary so be warned. (may not be work safe)
(This podcast explains how it happened and what it means to the Battle Tech mechs that were classed "Unseen". And you should have a listen.)

All for now,
9erRed

As an avid TT player who still owns several unseen mini's I have to say...

I also have had, or still have, several reseen and phoenix variants and the Battlemaster specifically is very close to the Phoenix one from TT... Regardless of its 'look', it offers a new hardpoint layout as well as variety in what we see from the cockpits of our own mechs...

These mechs are here because they were redesigned earlier in the battletech universe's history, not because PGI wants to remake them now. Some of the unseen were never reseen, but that doesnt mean we will never be able to see them, we just need to phoenix style project them and redesign the appearance, the same thing the ppl at FASA and {Noble MechWarrior} did...

Scorpions are one I wouldnt hold my breath over, its a quad, I doubt we will ever get them, same with LAM...

I really wish the 20ton mech from this was a wasp or stinger, guess what, it isn't and I am not tailhurt over it, I am getting overlord and will enjoy every minute of it, worthless Loyalty Points (IMHO) and all...

You could take away all benefits of the phoenix variants and in fact take away all of the extras save mechbays and offer 12 standard variants of reseen mechs, nostalgic old men like me WILL buy them, we dont need prem time or mech shineys, we just want our beloved mechs back...

I have been quoted in my drop team as saying that I would sell all of my mechs, hero and not, just for the priveledge of mastering the Griffin... I stand by that, and my multiple hundreds of dollars fed to PGI, with another 100 or so on the way guys, for Overlord and my Jenner for Sarah...

Do I feel there can be a better mechwarrior game, he** yes I do! I am not a fool to think we have seen ALL that is developed for MWO though... however full YOUR glass is, or isn't, mine is completely filled, I see not what we have today, but what we dont have today that is yet to be released...

I love killing mechs, I love capping objectives, these packages make it easier for people to do just that
