It sounds like 3PV will be quite well balanced. Besides having the drone above the head of the mech there will also be no minimap/HUD and arm lock cannot be disabled. These are huge disadvantages. I planned on remaining in 1PV anyways which is the way to go and it's nice knowing those going to 3PV will be paying the price.

3PV will be "balanced" only without F4 button. Only noob'll be stupid to fight with 3PV "on". All others will switch it on just to view around the corner or hill, view your sorry *** there, switch it off and put some well placed shots right in your face.

I rarely post...but my anger has finally forced me to raise my voice. PGI has NO CLUE about how to run a client service based business.... they lie about what they are doing... they make bold statements about content and game play... and then renege on them....... see http://mwomercs.com/...095-3rd-person/ for proof. They also seem to work on small things while ignoring the things t hat would truly improve game play (ie: DirectX11, Joystick Support, UI 2.0, CryEngine Upgrade) things that would make the game more playable. Instead they mess around with little "fixes" and ignore the big stuff...... Also they said that they would test 3pv extensively with exhaustive testing in private and public tests... I guess exhaustive means 2 hours of public testing... we are easily exhausted you know... and they didn't want us to get too "exhausted". I haven't been here very long.... a little over two months.. but to me.. and this is just my opinion... which as a customer who has paid real money to this company I am completely within my rights to express, is this... every time they "fix" something they end up making it worse... I liked this game better 2 plus months ago when I joined compared to what it has become... I am VERY glad I was not suckered in by Phoenix.... they say this game is going "live" in September.. well if it does.. and I have serious doubts.... they will be releasing a beta product and calling it a finished product... this program is miles away from where it needs to be to be a finished product ready for release... any way my rant is done for now.... I could make a list of everything I believe is wrong with this game and PGI but I will not bore you all with that at this time... All i can say is it has saddened me because this game has SOOOOOO MUCH potential to be awesome.. I also know I will not shell out another penny until this company gets its crap together and starts treating the customer they way they should be. NO EXCUSE for lying to clients!!!! :) :D P.S. As if Terra Therma wasn't a sucky enough map .... they made it hotter (suckier) .... my response to this "fix" will be to drop out of the match the instant I drop into Terra Therma..... if we all do this they will change it fast..... I apologize in advance to the team mates that get screwed this way.. but I can think of no other way to force action.

Can someone clarify something for me?

I was under the impression that when 3PV arrived, we would have the option of playing in different queues - one for 3PV/1PV and another solely for 1PV.

I see nothing mentioning this in the patchnotes either way, however some of the responses in this thread would lead me to the conclusion that there will be no choice in the matter.

If this is the case, then I'm afraid that I may well be done with this game. Not directly because of 3PV, but because of the "dishonest" nature of it's implementation.

I will add that this decision does not come easily - I freaking love piloting my mechs. I've been on a bit of a quest to get my circle of friends back into it after they all quit for various reasons (main one being PGI comes across as extremely inexperienced, which in turn develops a lack of faith that the end product will be worth the time to play it) although now, I don't think I'll bother.

So, could someone (preferably someone official) clear this up for me in plain English?

Was perfectly formatted. Now it's not: Before it had nothing about armlock being forced on for third person. It was just you can't toggle between with mech powered down, and use F4 to toggle. Now it says armlock's locked on and a couple of other things in between.

The armlock was definitely there before.

I think some people missed the developer statements regarding how they will implement the queue splitting (regarding first- and third-person views). The queue splitting is sensitive to the context of Community Warfare, such that the entire Mercenary campaign will be first-person only, and only in the Faction/House combat scenarios will there be a queue split to offer Faction/House players a choice of fighting with or without third-person players present. Because Community Warfare hasn't launched yet, they aren't rolling the full queue-splitting functionalities yet.

When CW launches, they will work a perspective queue split into the Faction/House players' options, and anyone launching/dropping as part of, or alongside, a Mercenary Corporation will not have access to third-person view at all.

Maybe that's how they described it to mods and squirrels but to us lowly paying customers it was definitely NOT described that way at all.

Here are the facts.
  • Yes we are currently working on a 3rd person option for MWO.
  • There is no ETA for when 3rd person will be available.
  • Players will never be forced to use or play against other players using 3rd person.
Why add 3rd person?
  • Reduces friction for non-MechWarrior players, non-core players, and expands the MWO market to a broader audience. It helps to make the game more accessible and less intimidating.
  • Offers up a different style of gameplay and tactics.
You will have the following options as a player:
  • Play against 1st and 3rd person players.
  • Play against 3rd person players only.
  • Play against 1st person players only.
  • Players can set their preference in the options menu, or during the launch phase before matchmaking.
General Information
  • We have not decided on the final implementation of what third person will look like yet.
  • We are very aware of the design and balancing challenges faced by adding a 3rd person option and will address these through exhaustive private and public testing before pushing any 3rd person features live.
  • It is possible 3rd person will be made available in other regions first. Typically 3rd person is more widely used outside of North America.
  • We understand players may be concerned about matchmaking and further segmenting the player base. So are we. Before going live with a 3rd person option, we plan to investigate and solve any potential issues further fragmentation may cause.
We would like to invite your constructive feedback on how you would like to see 3rd person executed.
  • Standard forum rules apply, please be kind, courteous, and clearly communicated your ideas or opinions.
  • This is not the place to say you dislike 3rd person.
When we get closer to launching 3rd person, expect an official Command Chair post detailing our planned 3rd person feature set.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One poster mentioned something that I thought was more than fair. List some of the ideas we've been toying with in order for it to work. These are just SOME of the ideas we've been discussing:
  • Camera is locked horizontally to the torso. This is not a peek around corners mode.
  • Camera is locked vertically to the torso, you can only look up and down as far as your torso can.
  • When approaching cover (to rocks/building etc), the camera pulls IN so FoV is greatly reduced when standing close to something.
  • 3rd Person is not a free-cam.
  • HUD will be significantly reduced if not completely removed.
  • LOS targetting is NOT affected by 3rd person. If you cannot target it from 1st person, you cannot target it in 3rd.
  • ONLY the targeted enemy (Press R) can be identified in 3rd person... all other HUD indicators are turned off.
Again, these are a few of the ideas we're working on. Please keep that in mind when posting.

Uh, guys and gals, please remember:

THIS IS A BETA! WE ARE HERE TO TEST.

So quit QQing, test the patch and post your feedback. Our job is to QA the thing so that they can make improvments -- not act like a bunch of overindulged preschoolers. Take your job seriously : test, test some more and give feedback. All the rest of the drama should be dropped until after release.

right
Because PGI has an excellent track record of listening to our feedback.....

There will only be a separation between the views when CW is in, only in CW is where 3PV is not aloud, but sense we are not going to get CW until some undetermined time until after launch, we are stuck with this crap.

It's a subtle way of saying that CW isn't coming out for a very long time.

If CW was just over the horizon and this is how they planned to do 3PV then they probably would have waited until they could implement it there.

Less than a month from release. And they are doing exactly the OPPOSITE of the feedback that has been given. We tested 3PV, we gave them feedback, and they COMPLETELY IGNORED IT. What is the point of the test server if they ignore all the feedback from it?

The feedback thread from the 3PV test session was full of long, well thought-out insightful posts discussing the problems with it. We took it VERY seriously. And now its '3PV is here! Enjoy!' as if they didn't even read the thing.

Is it any wonder that we are concerned? We're one month from launch and the company is ignoring the beta testers.

I'm at work right now... so I cannot qualify if in fact 3PV is no longer queued as the patch notes seem to indicate.

That said, if they did merge... I've got some serious crow to consume and will dutifully let everyone kick me in the arse for staunchly refusing to believe PGI would screw me us like this... :) :D

I can confirm that there are no seperate queues. They even added the damn buttons for hardcore mode...but they're greyed out. I'm predicting they'll be taken out entirely when U.I. 2.0 hits.

Dude I am not going to argue based on my backing of a game is in anyway linked to my playing habits or my posting habit, if you cant comprehend there is a difference there is no point.
