I'd like to take this opportunity to distance myself from a portion of the community. I've read most of the "feedback" from both these threads, and continually regurgitating "the lie" over and over again (more than 200 pages worth of the stuff) even after the mistake was apologized for, is not something I condone, support, endorse, in any way, shape or form.
It looks like you guys learned a very painful lesson about development. Any, and all communication is taken as gospel. People wonder why you can't talk at length about features in development, or give a date as to "when it's coming out," ha. This is why you don't, not even hints on twitter.
Anyway, here's some feedback on 3PV.
The premise I get, training wheels for new players. Now, when I had a look at 3PV, I noticed that the torso was clearly viable, but the legs were not. Even in 3PV, you could still encounter the problem of new players not knowing which direction their Mech is moving, simply because they cannot see the legs. It seems to be more prevalent on heavy Mechs.
Suggestion: A bit of tweaking of the camera angle for each individual Mech may be needed. Basically, you want the legs and torso to be clearly visible, so new players can say "I see, my Mech is moving into that wall," and "ok, the mouse rotates the top part only."
In the games I've played, I haven't been able to exploit 3PV, or seen someone else exploit it, but, going by the assumption that it is exploitable, I would offer the following suggestions.
Suggestion: Make the light on the camera blink, just to make it more visible to other players. Perhaps give it a light source?
Suggestion: More penalties for using 3PV, it's supposed to be training wheels after, there's a number of things you could do. You could give it a base heat penalty, you could make the crosshair bob more than it does, you could remove the targeting and player information panels, you could also tweak mech movement, twist and turning speeds slightly.
As for 1PV lock in 12v12 premades? Yeah, I suppose it couldn't hurt. I'm pretty sure players in premade groups will be using 1PV anyway.
Now, for 1PV lock in CW matches. It's still possible, that new players would download the game, then go straight into a CW match, and encounter the same problem. If that's the case, it might not be such a good idea to lock 1PV for CW matches.
