There will be different types of fish you can buy. For real money. For virtual fish in your virtual fish tank in a space game. :)

Or, you know, get ingame for free once it launches?

I'm willing to bet there will be premium fish that are only available for cold hard cash.

Yeah, I really don't get why people are paying to skip the game in Star Citizen. *shrug*

So...

It's been many hours and due to the timing (and the fact that I am in the UK) the stream was too late for me to watch. And that's fair enough, I don't expect it to be at a reasonable time in every timezone.

What I do expect is that by now I can look on the official site / forum and find an official post detailing at least the presentation if not the event as a whole.

Before I go off on one about how one of the major complaints about PGI which they have claimed to be addressing is poor communication, have I missed some official post anywhere?

And no, I cba to watch the twitch stream, I just want to spend a few minutes reading what info they gave out (all light-hearted forum mockery aside).

Keep in mind, they're probably hung over, and aren't anywhere near PGI HQ. So I think it'll be a while until they can get the video up. Honestly, if I was putting on this event, AND flying to California from Canada, I'd stick around for the weekend and see the sights. They are human, and a relatively small company.

Can't wait to play Crimson Straight - looked great. Did they play more than once, I had to leave after the Centurion v Centurion match.

Assuming they didn't make up that presentation on the day of the event it would have been known to them beforehand.

They could have prepared the info prior to the event and clicked the button to add it to the site / forum at any point between the presentation and now.

Quite possibly, but given that it's a purely cosmetic item I don't see any problem with that.

They offer sales of vehicles and cosmetics for real cash, just like MWO does. Everything currently available for pledging will be available ingame apart from a few cosmetics.

Sandpit really man, ever hear of EVE online ...exactly the same bounty system since 2004. In fact what ideas were presented, were direct rip off's a 50/50 split between WOW and EVE online,

guilds (WOW) star map, bounties planets (EVE online) all wrapped up in one power point presentation that if I made for my 2 bit company would get me fired..so bad..

The most egregious thing was probably the fact you go from level 1-60. It's so arbitrary, and so Warcraft.

Is there confirmation on that somewhere? The main thing keeping me away from interest in SC is the cost & exclusivity of stuff -- I don't feel right paying in to a game that I'll only ever be able to afford a ship or two for.

Been confirmed numerous times by Chris Roberts himself. Every pledge ship, even the limited ones, will be available for in-game currency after launch. There will also be nothing affecting gameplay which is only available for real money. Not even like what MWO does with unique hero mechs. Everything meaningful like ships and weapons will be purchasable with in-game currency.

https://robertsspace...3241-17-Million at the voyager direct part

As some of you may have noticed we launched the very beginning of our IN-GAME store with Voyager Directyesterday. It had a soft launch (we deliberately kept it back from the weekly email) so we could roll it to get feedback and see how to integrate what is a tricky thing into Star Citizen at such an early stage of development.Even with a soft launch quite a lot of people started using the store (no surprise the Buggy is the top seller!)

Unfortunately there seems to be some misunderstanding in our intentions with the prototype in-game store, as the forums erupted with a significant amount of “discussion” last night!

I have read all of the criticism and there have been many great points. One of the great things about Star Citizen’s development is that we can get feedback like this… and use it to figure out how to make things better.

The intention of creating Voyager Direct right now was the very opposite of what a lot of people are upset about. It is not supposed to be a cash shop! It’s meant to be the very opposite!

I felt that it was important that we should make clear what are in-game items, earnable via game play. This was the whole reason of segregating these new items into the Voyager Direct store rather than the pledge store. We intend for players to be earning UEC in a limited fashion as early as the dogfighting module (say for fighting so many test battles, or winning a team battle competition) and felt Voyager Direct would be the first step in getting the basic systems in place. Ultimately you will be purchasing all these game items inside the game from in-game vendors on various planets but this won’t come online until the Planetside module. Since the web team at Turbulent had already built a store interface and the team here was already creating items to outfit the hangar and ships, it seemed like an easy option to create Voyager Direct now to allow all of you to play with and check out some of the game items as they are created rather than waiting for Planetside module to see them in engine. The concept was that people that wanted to show their support and contribute towards the development cost of the game could buy some items to play with in their hangar but by establishing the prices in game terms it would also make it clear that these items are all earnable in game. I should also point out that Voyager Direct is intended only to sell cosmetic items or basic ship items that would be available on pretty much any planet – the better items will always have to be bought by actually flying to the appropriate planet or earning the via gameplay. There is no need to buy anything from Voyager Direct – it is all OPTIONAL and should be viewed the same way that you view paying for a subscription or buying a skin. All of this will be earnable in the game, without too much time invested.

I’m very opposed to having a game where ANY of the items, outside of your initial game / ship package can be only purchased with cash. I hate the bifurcation of items in most online games, even when they are just for flair items. I want Star Citizen to allow players to earn everything they need in-game for ships, upgrades and even flair.

None of the ships are exclusive to backers. The only advantages are a. Starting with the ship and b. LTI (lifetime insurance).

LTI is exactly the same as basic hull insurance which will be available ingame as "a fraction of your costs" (that's all we know so far) except it never expires and never costs anything.

If you do not have access to LTI ships the standard pledge ships come with months of insurance (I forget how much, 3 or 6 I think).

I don't have a link handy, I imagine there was a news update when the pledge shop first launched but I don't know when that was and can't be bothered to search through all the news. :)

Oh, one of the ships isn't purchasable ingame, only capturable via boarding (from NPCs or players that are flying one). An alien pirate ship.

You could say that, or something just like it, for pretty much any given maximum level. Whatever they choose will appear arbitrary, and given Wow has used 60, 70, 80 and 85; various Everquests have used all sorts of different maximums, helll; every game with levels has some arbitrary limit.

Why pay for Star Citizen and not MWO,

The main difference is with MWO you KNOW you are being lied to, you were lied to when you bought your founders packs, you were lied to a year ago with the who CW thing, you were lied to yesterday (so bad).

With Star Citizen you MIGHT not be being lied to.

So you could say, anyone that buys from MWO is a brain damaged fool, or a *********. why? m.a.s.ochist.

Anyone that buys from Star Citizen is a hopeful optimist.

why aren't the mods permanently banning forum posters who are advocating star citizen? it's blatant soliciting of their playerbase and is not acceptable, if you don't like this game and are moving on to star citizen then leave and quit trying to steal away as many players as possible

Yeah its hard to imagine what the game will look like in a year when the servers are shut down because the game died.

So basically you, and the other Debbie Downers infesting the forums, are here on a death watch -- just like what the media tried to do to Nelson Mandela and others? How classy of you to do so then. :)

You're not buying a ship, but providing funding for the game itself. My hornet isn't anywhere near worth 120 dollars, but that was the going price at the time.

In the game, everything costs credits, which you make like any other in-game currency since the dawn of time, You're not gonna buy a hornet for 120 US dollars, but more likely 20,000 credits.

All the pleding is simply to get the game done, and make it the best game possible.
