1) no, you can buy premium time, that speeds earnings, put there is no need to buy anything

2) you can play this game with never spending any money, and I would advise against spending any of that MC until you have played the first 25 games, in those games try all the trial Mechs to try to figure out what you like and dislike about diferant Mechs and weapon systems, then possibly come back here and ask for advice.

3) in MWO MC is usualy spent on new Mechs (the vast majority of which are available for free or will be in the near future), Mechbays to store your Mechs (you get 4 for free and can earn another 20 in Community warfare, also they are often given away in events) Premium Time which speeds earnings, or cosmetic items (paints, camo schemes, cockpit items), the only MC only Mechs are Hero Mechs (with a unique unchangeable camo and unique but in no way overpowered hardpoints) and Champion Mechs (identical to free variants, and considered the same variant for XP purposes except that they come with most of the upgrades already done and a 30% XP earnings boost) if you are considering spending MC on Mechs look at the mastery bundles.

literally some people who have been playing MWO for years have never spent any money on the game, so it is definitely possible to play completely for free

I just got XP and c-bills for "Counter ECM Locked Damage".

I've never seen this before. Anyone know what it is exactly?

I just installed BAP on this mech (CDA-3C), so I'm guessing that's somehow involved. Maybe for providing a target lock on an ECM-carrying mech, which then got damaged?

you had countered an ECM allowing a teammate to lock on to that Mech, then damage was caused to that Mech, because you helped cause that damage (by countering the ECM with your BAP) you get a reward for it.

buying 99$ worth of mc isn't the best use for those $$ imo
i would buy a part of some of package(s), it would give the premium time, some mechs, mech bays and some additional content

https://mwomercs.com/resistance
the list of other packages is at the top of that page, note, 2 of them are upcoming

conquest mode
if possibly premium time and a hero mech (any version with 30% boost)
do a lot of damage, component destruction, killing blow, assist, hit and run, brawling, kill most damage dealt, tag damage, tag kill, solo kill, savior kill, counter ecm [damage locked] etc

Part of the reason for getting and having a lot of c-bills is that some of us have been playing for a while. I have 118 mechs, all mastered and set up with full upgrades and modules and I currently have about 25 million c-bills, but I've been playing for almost 3 years and have premium time.

There are some things you can do to get additional c-bills such as buy premium time and get a hero mech.

Yes, but I don't play breakless. I think that's the problem. That's the reason, why I am asking.

I've never had more than a mech's worth of cbills, and that's ususally only because I was saving up for it!

A top tip and easy to accomplish is hit every mech, even if its just a graze, some easy assist cbills -
Just make sure you dont leave the game before that mechs dead otherwise you will not get the assist!
Lock your targets and go for weakened components as component destructions are also an excellent way although post match salvage you get the most from complete mechs. - IE Headshot the enemy, but that benefits the team as a whole, not just yourself, if you want to be selfish, tear the enemy mech into tiny little peices :P

how are the badges assigned ? I mean, i purchased 20$ urbanmech, and got civil servant badge.
Its random choose, or static ?

And can a badge be won by a challenge ?

Badges depend on the level of package you bought but you can choose which one you show out of the ones you own.
Badges are not earnt my playing challenges but you can change your title in game from achievements you have won or your current CW faction rank.

Best advice I can give regarding this, is the "free" rewards that just come with being a "team" player. There are rewards for just sticking with your lance and shooting what they shoot at. If you're in a Medium or Light mech, you'll earn rewards for just being in proximity to Heavies and Assaults just by targeting enemy mechs. The "R" (default Target Enemy Mech) key is your best friend. Try to get in the habit of targeting enemy mechs even if they aren't in your LOS (line of sight). For example, lets say there is an LRM boat on your team that has an enemy targeted and is laying down LRM fire. If you have the same mech targeted and no other friendly has it targeted (or you were the 1st to target it and hold that target lock), you can get rewarded for just continuing to target that mech for your friendly.

If you carry ECM, you can get rewards for just cancelling enemy ECM. The same goes for BAP.

UAV is a catch 22. Under the right conditions, the cost of that 40k UAV can pay for itself, but it's rare. It takes a lot of UAV target assists to add up to over 40k, but if the enemy is bunched up and they have a lot of ECM, you can rake in the rewards if you pop up a UAV and it doesn't get noticed. Don't launch it early in the match, wait until the battle is underway and they enemy is distracted. UAVs can end up costing you more than they're worth if you let it.

Lastly, if it doesn't hurt your team, try to land at least a little damage on every enemy mech you encounter. If you're playing Skirmish or Assault mode, the win is likely to come from killing all 12 of the enemy mechs, (Skirmish is almost a given). So if you can land just one ML on ever enemy, and you're on the winning team, that will net you 12 x 4500 (IIRC) = 54,000.

The rewards were adjusted somewhat from this post, but I can't find the update.

In terms of cbills, consumables invariably cost more than they are worth. Just don't use them.

Sometimes, if you're looking for XP, the consumables can get you ahead. UAV is one of those for sure.

The trick is to decide which you are pursuing. If it's cbills, forget about consumables. If it's XP, choose wisely and use sparingly and you can get ahead.
