* but once I finish the Elite tier for the other two Wolverines, I will think again if I should rebuy the 6K just to get the 7k (my favourite, by far) to Master or not.

Still, with 2 Centurions at Master, 1 Hunchback, 1 Raven 3L and 1 Vindicator (would be 2 if I did not sell the cn9-a) I think I will just settle for it being unmastered, despite the perks Master comes with.

If you already have 2 Centurians and 2 Wolverines with Elite skills completed you will already have master unlocked, you only need 3 Medium Mechs with elite complete to unlock Master for all Medium Mechs as soon as they finish elite

all the Master tier gives you is an extra Mech/Weapon module slot, you should already have double basics if you have completed Elite.

modules are end game content, usualy 2 million to 6 million a piece and first have to be unlocked from the pilot tree with thousands of GXP before you can purchase them, unlocking Master is only helpful if you want to mount more Mech or Weapon modules than you currently have space for.

At your stage in the game completing master will probably not be especially helpful, although it certainly will not hurt.

So if i am understanding this right I can have an orion, a thunderbolt and a vulture all brought to elite and get the double basic effects?

Here's a real life example from how I elited my Centurions, and Novas:

I got the CN9-A. Got it to full basics, all 8, then sold it. Got the CN9-AL, all 8 basics, sold it, got distracted by other mechs for forever. Recently I got the CN-9AH as a loyalty reward. Finally, I decided to run it. Got it through basics, and that unlocked elites for it (since I had 2 other varaints that had full basics already). Finished eliting it, but couldn't master it. Had no other mediums at full elites. Now the CN9-AH has the double basics bonus at this point, so the master slot is only there for the extra module.

I switched over to my novas. Got three of them to full basics. Now I only needed to elite TWO of them (2 Novas on full elites + 1 centurion on full elites = three mechs in the same weight class at full elites) to unlock master level for all my mediums.

Basically the only time you will need to own three variants of a mech to level it, is when getting it past basics. Once you've had three mechs in the class at full elites, you don't need to worry about eliting mechs.

So long as a mech has full elites, it's basics are doubled.

One more question. Can I buy packages (e.g. Cauldron Born pack) before I am done with my cadet bonuses even though I wont be able to use the purchased mechs till I am done with the cadet bonus?

Yes, and you can pilot those mechs even during your cadet bonus period.
(Is there a rule that says you can't pilot purchased mechs until after the cadet bonus is over?)

How do i join or get invited to be part of one of the factions

In-game, click on the big FACTION button in the top right. You're already part of Clan Wolf btw.

Once all 3 have the basics unlocked you can sell any that you don't want and elite the one you do want. We're all pretty leery about selling mechs though. For that reason, I strongly encourage you to keep them all until they are all elited, then if you really, really want to, sell the one or two you don't want. That way you can still get one of them to mastery.

The gotta catch 'em all mentality hits me particularly hard here. If I get a mech, I don't feel right as a completionist unless I get the extra module slot. There are a few mechs that I hated badly enough that I abandoned that quest on though...

I tend to master all 3 just in case, even if I don't particularly care for the variant. The exception to this for me are clan mechs. With the ability to swap out the Omnipods I don't feel compelled to keep all 3.

No, but considering the advice we always throw out about waiting until the bonus is over, I can see how one might get that impression.

You can use anything you buy as soon as it gets injected into your account. You can buy the Cauldron Born and use it on your very first match if you really wanted to. We just don't recommend it for new players.

Actually the Ebon Jaguar is good enough that newbies probably could play it. It feels like a Dragon that can kind of tank a little bit to me, and is probably my new favorite heavy. Heck, it's the first heavy that I consistently do well in. Otoh, asking a newbie to shell out for a pack is probably really unreasonable, so yeah.

Hi guys, I've got a good one for you today :)

What would (should) happen if a mech would fire a PPC/ERPCC/CERPPC under water towards another mech at 300/600/700 meters distance?

Would the water get electrified in around the mech who fired the shot?
Would other mechs close by be damaged?
Well, you get the picture :)

Page 63 of the Battletech Compendium says

Quote

Lasers and PPCs may be fired underwater; however, their range is greatly reduced.

and then theres a chart showing ranges at 1-4, 5-7, 8-10 for the PPC. (with minimum still included at 3.0

You can actually fire weapons from underwater in Forest Colony. E4 area, I think. Try it in a Commando or Spider sometime.

I am pretty sure water drastically reduces damage from a weapon, it definitely works if the hit Mech is under water, not sure about the firing Mech.
water in no way electrifies or changes pinpoint damage weapons to "splash damage" (edit: no pun intended) weapons

Thanks all, so it seems PPCs are basically hampered by water the same way other weapons are...

They are. However I need to clarify something here.

PPCs are not an electric charge being fired at the mech. Even though they look like bolts of electricity. They really are particles being slung at super speed towards the target.

A Particle Projection Cannon fires a concentrated stream of photons or ions at the target, dealing both thermal and kinetic damage. It even produces recoil, despite being considered an energy weapon.

If we are talking about the weapons in MWO, I think it works this way:
lasers get linear damage reduction by distance below water surface. (i think it goes down to 0 after 1 meter even, but not sure)
Any other weapon will explode on the surface and deals no damage below.

It might be outdated, but thats my last update on this topic.

Firing into water is not the same as firing from within water, and it's not the same as firing underwater:

Into water: shell goes from outside, into water, missiles explode upon contact with the surface 9/10 times. Ballistics can go through at reduced damage. Lasers too.

from water: Shell goes from inside water, into the outside. In MWO there is virtually no problems there. The shell works fine.

Underwater: shell is fired underwater, and stays underwater the whole time. Reduced ranges, and damage on everything.

Left upper corner, click "select mech", then click respective mech, then click "save" lower right, then click "mechlab", here you can change pretty much everything.

Just remember that a mech without a damage dealing weapon can't go on the field. So I'd say unless you plan on using only one. It's better to buy more weapons.
