I think the idea has merit but in practice it makes a hard game really punishing, especially on new players. People complain about the grind now, I can only imagine the wails and tears if R&R suddenly got brought back in.

I liked R&R as a concept. Just not how it was placed in the game. I do wish they would revisit it and try to place a similar mechanic back into the game. How to make it more fair? Not sure. One thing I can think of is to make it so you can never lose more than you make in a match. Then, your customized mech may not be earning you money, but at least it also isn't costing you any either...
Basically, I liked the concept, not the way it actually worked. (And it was in early open beta. I remember earning my first mech, the Hunchback 4J, with R&R. It was actually a lot of fun, and the extra work felt like I had actually achieved something when I did get a new mech.

A quick run down - I am more a long-range fire supporter, but I do love to brawl every now and then, which is where the Mad Dog would come in handy, but seeing as i do not know all that much about the StormCrow, I am not sure if it would match my style of play. Does anyone have any suggestions about which of them to buy?
(IAdditional: am not much a fan of the Assault 'Mechs, since i prefer speed over armour)
Cheers in advance for any and all replies, hints and tips.

if you want missiles go for the MDD, otherwise it is outperformed in pretty much every way by the SCR,
the Stormcrow can do pretty much any role effectively (including LRM/SRM/SSRM boat) whereas, in my opinion, the MDD only really shines as a missile platform, however that said I do prefer the MDD to the SCR, but I am not sure why.
if you are after long range fire support the Ebon Jaguar may be worth a look, it is a 65 ton Omnimech with more tonnage for weapons than the Timber Wolf assuming both mount full armor, the same speed as the other Clan heavies and has some really high mounted hardpoints, great for hull down firing, it is the only Clan heavy Mech realistically capable of taking 2 Gauss rifles or 2 AC20s

Now that I'm getting close to a mastered drop deck, will need to all those modules and engines for all four mechs? (or do you have a chance to hot-swap during the match in CW? I don't see where that would be practical so guessing I should start buying mods and engines now?

They'll need to be fully equipped.

As an additional note, Modules are often times seen as "extras" and are not actually needed to play. They are nice and can give a very slight edge. Only modules I'd worry about making sure you have is Air/Artillery Strikes and UAVs. The rest will come in time.

Would be cool to have something like this in the Game, but I don't think it will happen here anytime soon, if at all.

The weapon mods I do find are more nice-to-haves... but those to mech mods... I fear withdrawls without them

But, I prob won't let a few missing hold me back. I'm starting to get a bit anxious to start dropping with people and units.... you guys appear to be having loads of fun.
I'm still trying to get the hang of arty stikes... tricky, dropped them on myself a few times... :/
Thanks as always.

I already have LRMs on a few of my 'Mechs, but more looking for a 'Mech that focus more on ballistics and/or energy weapons, maybe a little of both, but I have not thought up until now about the Ebon Jaguar, so I will check out a few YT videos (as well as Sarna) and read up on it before I decide if I like it enough to buy or not).
Thanks for you advice as always, Rogue Jedi.

The EBJ gets both of my thumbs up.
It has very high mounted energy and ballistic hardpoints, and it's got the tonnage to do some ludicrous builds.

These videos are a bit old now in balance terms. You should get the idea though.

But the better you perform (damage, kills, assists, whatever) the more you get so if you wanna play "hard" mode in the quickplay queue you can push yourself to be the best on the team.
"Best" is a dreadfully subjective thing, since you can get rewards for inflicting casualties or damage on the enemy far in excess than the rewards you get for doing things that actually win a match. The new rewards are better than the old ones, but still no tanking reward, and too small a reward for objective focus.
Curiously, the R&R concept made people do all kinds of contra-victory things to prevent taking personal losses. If they ran out of ammo, a lot of folks would just hide and power down, with the result that their team was short a dude, and NOBODY wanted to incur damage EVER. Plus iirc there was a free percentage of ammo that was restored after every match or something, so it paid to carry more ammo than you would use. Lots of weirdness in the way they initially had that.

It's tricky to make a system where people get paid a minimum amount that even their 0 damage matches cover their mech replacement without inflating the c-bill like crazy. Unless you mean that they can just pay 0 if their damages were greater than than their earnings. That seems a little wonky too though. I'd have to think on it.

That's why I said I don't know what would be needed to make it work.

And yes, I'm saying any damages that exceed your earnings would be covered for free (somehow). It makes it so if you want to bring in an XL customized mech, you can play it without penalty but you may not make any earnings when you use that mech. Would certainly give lower tech (such as Std engines, Std Heatsinks, etc) as well as medium mechs a more defined role again. But, then again, this is just a half thought concept...

A problem with dumping them on yourself is if you look at an invisible wall. Always check the distance reader in your HUD.

Go to "Select Mech". Make sure the "Own" Tab is selected, and the "Any" tab is selected for Inner Sphere or Clan. Then also make sure "Any" is selected again on the last tab, as far as weight and type of mech (special/Champion/etc).
These are all option tabs on the top of your mech select screen.

*facepalm*
I'll put that in my "why am I so dense" box

That makes a lot of sense and no idea why I didn't make the connection.
I was trying to target a mech and thought the strike would drop centered on that location... I bet often I'm hull down on a hill and the reticle is looking at the hill... *slaps myself*
I'll give it a go tonight the correct way! (and I won't have to make voip apologies for dropping a strike behind our lines...

Don´t slap yourself, it´s really nothing you can just know. However it´s one of the skills especially light pilots must learn.
