*facepalm*

I'll put that in my "why am I so dense" box Posted Image
That makes a lot of sense and no idea why I didn't make the connection.
I was trying to target a mech and thought the strike would drop centered on that location... I bet often I'm hull down on a hill and the reticle is looking at the hill... *slaps myself*

I'll give it a go tonight the correct way! (and I won't have to make voip apologies for dropping a strike behind our lines... Posted Image )

I knew how to use Arty/air and I've still had times where I somehow managed to drop the strike way behind my target, or right on top of my head due to some invisible terrain or my reticle not being over my target as I though/saw it to be. Good thing I play faster mechs, so I move out REAL quick...

Still, it is a bit embarrassing sometimes. And you are not alone.

I bought a mech last night and got a prem account, I can't seem to play with my mech, I can find it but it just wants to sell it

It sounds like you're in the inventory screen. You want to be in the "Select mech" screen, from there, choose your mech (use the filiter "Owned"), and jump into a match, XD.

For bonus points (I haven't tested it recently but I haven't heard that it stopped working) you can target an artillery/airstrike on a UAV. The strike will hit the ground directly under the UAV. #forthelulz

I've been playing a while, but one thing still confuses me. When you die and it gives a list of the most recent weapons to damage you, is the killing blow on the top or on the bottom?

I'm pretty sure it's at the bottom.

Yes, your 'Mech is locked while in a match.
But you can queue up with another 'Mech, while another is locked.

But you should know, that you won't get rewards for the missed time of a match. E.g. you wont get CBills for assists of a 'Mech killed, after you leave.

Still works, the trick is to trigger the strike when you have the UAV aimed properly, (you need to see an actual range on your range finder, otherwise, the strike won't launch.

So aim correctly at the UAV, and your strike will land directly under it.

Bottom.

Also of note: It never mentions how many of said weapon hit you. So it will say "Medium Laser" but for all you know that could have been 22 MLs hitting you.

To clarify:
The mech is locked in for that drop, but you can exit the match, and select another mech, and jump into another drop with that other mech.

You can do the same yourself Scoots, but since you own one mech, you'll just use trial mechs. Helps you farm more cash.

Another thing to clarify is that let's say you hit 5 mechs, and died after killing one of them. If you stay in the match, and the other 4 die, you will get rewards for the kill, and all 4 assists + all other rewards you are entitled to. If you quit the match immediately after dying, you'll get the rewards for the kill, and all other things you're entitled to, up to that point in time (so no 4 assists, because those happened after you quit the match).

It is a system that was implemented to prevent suicide farming (assists pay well, and so people used to jump into a mech, run into the enemy team, and tag each one with a laser hit, before dying, jump into another mech, and rinse-repeat, to make money that way).

Thanks! Each weapon only showing up once even if you were hit with multiples is probably why it was confusing.

Is this a fact? Do you have a source for this? It would make sense though since I feel I'm making less c-bills if I keep leaving matches where I die.

I know that used to be the case, it may have been changed recently but I have never heard or seen the official announcement.
unfortunately I am not prepared to go through the last 3 years of announcements, patch notes, command chair posts, ask the devs posts, developer vlogs, and town hall archives (just the vlogs and town halls would probably amount to about more than 24 hours of video) to find the precise quote, as going though all that would likely take the better part of a week

I didn't expect anyone to dig it out. :) If anyone happened to know a specific source that would've been cool. I believe the scoring to work this way even without a definitive source. This game just has some obscure mechanics that one can't really get sorted out easily.

This is from an ancient announcement, or discussion. Don't even remember if it was on the forums or not. However, as far as I know, this has not been removed from the game.

I'm a bit new here (ignore the join date) and I'm wondering whether I should use an AMS system or keep the SRM-2's for my Commando (1B) or if I should even bother. Any advice?

Hm. Hard to tell without seeing the whole build.

Take this link and build your commando fitting and post it back in here, then we can see if it is a valid choice:

My advice for a n00b would be to use the AMS while you're learning. In general, speed and stealth should be sufficient to protect you from missiles in a COM-1B and it's not like you have tonnage to spare but AMS can keep you alive that little bit longer when you find yourself out of position and in the (LRM) rain.

Be aware though that it is a crutch and ultimately you have better things to do with that space than waste it on something that can easily be replaced by nearby buildings or terrain.

Honestly, you are probably a fast light mech, so LRMs probably wont be very scary as long as you keep moving. AMS is best against LRMs.

Keep the SRMs (unless you have heat problems), you'll need the damage output. But, I have to agree with Ruabwurst. I can't really say this with any certainty without actually seeing your build.

In general, you shouldn't need AMS unless you are in a slow medium mech, or a heavy or assault class mech. The slower you are, the more effective LRMs can be against you. Eventually, you'd probably even drop AMS all together, as you learn how to position yourself on a map to prevent them from even hurting you.

Overall though, counter to some of my advice, it's okay to experiment. Try your Commando with AMS, and see if you feel it performing better. If so, than keep it. If not, remove it. (I suggest playing several matches with a build before altering it. Helps you see how it performs as an average.)

I persionaly would never use an AMS on something as fast as a Commando unless it offered at least 2 AMS hardpoints (no Commando does) A Commando (assuming you have upgraded the engine) will be plenty fast enough to find cover to avoid LRMs and the AMS is not very effective against (S)SRMs anyway, the Commando does not really have enough tonnage to waste a ton on something speed and agility protect you from anyway.
if you have a ton spare I would suggest spending it on increasing ammo, an extra heat sink or possibly upgrading a Medium laser or 2 smalls to pulse

What does it mean when someone on your Friends List has 3 shields to the left of their Faction symbol?

That means they are in a group.

Grey means public play.
Yellow denotes Faction Play group.

If it is a shield with a star, they are the leader of a group.
